I also can’t picture faces in my head, come to think of it. I have occasionally wondered how anyone can describe the appearance of a person to the police, for example! Perhaps I need to look into this for myself.

I used to wonder about that too - creating photofit images always seemed an absolute impossibility!

This is a great video that explains Aphantasia so well. Sadly when trying to recall someone or a place I see nothing at all. Not even for a second. I have lived my life relying totally on memory and assumed it was the same for everybody. It’s only now (as an artist) I feel I was cheated of an important tool in my life. Though I have to say you have managed extremely well, even with Aphantasia.

Glad you enjoyed the film. I feel the same - a bit as though I have had one arm tied behind my back all my life as an artist and have only recently realised. The up-side is that you live in the moment, which makes me a fairly happy person I think.

Did you do a video about adding colour? How long did it take you to create each page?I have written several children’s books and I am searching for illustrators but as I am a novice at this I am Ill-equipped to guide them. What computer program did you use to manipulate the images? Do you ever cut and paste your drawings from one to the next to conserve time? How large a scanner do you use and at what resolution?

Lynn Chapman, I noticed you have the line art done on white paper. Once you moved onto the pink pastel paper, did you draw the same line art onto the pink paper with pencil before you started colouring in or did you go into colouring with pastels free-hand? Thanks for sharing your process with us. Your work is very expressive, fun and beautiful.

I love your work, Lynne. I come across your studio tour video on KZfaq a few years ago and then feel very inspired by your vibe and beautiful artwork. I got one of your children book illustrated books from a bookshop here in my local town that I love very much. All just to say that please keep making lovely art! Wish you joy every day!

Hi John, when do you make the holes in the ORB. When it is leather hard? As with it being an ORB you can’t have much control. Likewise when do you do the sculpturing? Leather Hard? Thank you, Bev Jordan NZ.

So glad you enjoyed the video. I'll pass your questions about the sculptural swirls to John. Re Episode 2: this film is Episode 3. If you go to my channel and scroll down to the Art Chat films, you will see all the episodes. So the one that follows this one is Episode 4.

Absolutely love this video. I want to become a children’s book illustrator myself . I love drawing and my sister would love if I could use my drawing for her books . How do you transfer your drawings into your books . And also what’s the easiest way to add color ? I’ve seen you color some of your characters in the past using pastels,but is there a way to add color to them digitally?

Im so happy I found this video - great to see people still happy to give advice without getting paid for it. Very useful video, thank you for sharing! I have a question regarding the process of getting your drawings into finished book. my plan: use line-drawings & watercolour to make my scetches -> scan them high resolution -> upload my digital scanned files to Adobe Indesign, where I will create the whole book. My question is if I need to use a profesional firm to scan my pictures, or do you think using a normal home-scanner will be sufficient, with the many features adobe ( creative cloud) have included? Are you adding your colours in Adobe inDesign or is that the designers job? Trying to figure if I should add watercolour to my sketches or add all colours in photoshoop. I will be doing everything myself :) Thank you so much again, & looking forward to hear from u!

This is a fundamentally important video, absolutely the no-messing-around technique I'd like to experiment with. 4:38 Brilliant, you don't actually mix the colurs to get a grey, instead just put the colors next to each other, I love it.

Hello Ms. Lynne, do you only accept submissions through agents/publishers for consideration or do you welcome new authors?

Your work is lovely! Do you have any suggestions on learning how to draw characters from different angles, perspective, facial expressions, while being cohesive through an entire picture book? I've only ever done one offs and it's so challenging to try to figure out how to create a character that I can reproduce in a consistent way.

Wow! When you drew the first face, my first thought was, " So that's what Mr. Martinez was trying to teach me!" He was my art teacher in school. Lol!!! Boy did I just feel dumb! 😂😂 He had us drawn face one day with shadows and my face had a bunch of shadows! 🙄😂 Not normal shadows like you just did right on the inside of the nose and where the nose joined the forehead right next to the eye! I hope that makes sense!

What size are your illustrations?
@LynneChapmanArtist2 жыл бұрын
It varies a little, but the final artwork is always larger than the book size, because pastels are easiest to work with when things are not too fiddly. A double page spread is something close to A2 size. If you look at my video Creating an Illustration in Pastels, you can see me working on a smaller piece, but also see a finished spread on my desk, which gives you an idea.

@LynneChapmanArtist2 жыл бұрын
When the drawings have all been okayed by the publisher - the whole book - then I trace them up and create the coloured artwork. I don't colour these specific drawings.
