We have so much respect for the dedication we see here! Love the expressive, yet descriptive sketches and we can't believe how much work she produced! When it comes to packing a mobile studio, Sandi is hands-down the best we've seen. If there's ever a secret mission of a ragtag band of rogue plein air painters landing by parachute in enemy territory, we think it's pretty clear who should be team leader!

I used to live in Santa Rosa beach, it was my first home in Florida (I’m further inland now.) this brings back so many memories, thank you so much!! ❤️ those tiny birds with the log legs are sandpipers and they were always my favorite. Their speed is mesmerizing!!

I went to Santa Rosa in JULY (blazing hot) but we actually had some beautiful days at the beach. I was with ladies from church but I was too scared to even pull my little travel bag of art supplies out. I don’t want anyone watching me draw/paint or seeing the finished product (unless I think it’s worthy to be shown) So my supplies stayed it the closet the entire trip. 😢 I did take some pictures so I can paint them later. I love the way you just do it! It’s not perfect, not a lot of details, just done! ❤

14:45 your work makes me smile so much, I too always brought way too much art supplies on trips and still do, learning to sketch everywhere was one of the greatest joys of my life. I was taught by Judi Betts. So many times, people don’t really know, I sketched at neurosurgical retirements dinners, funerals, weddings, just like you just about everywhere, and if my babies were with me, they all always had a page. Now my grandchildren get pages. My favorite was when a cousin architect of mine traveling with me said, “you are NOT going to do that here”. I have so many pictures of salt and pepper shakers in restaurants, and whatever was in front of me. I love watching you. Thank you for all you do, I will share you with my students. Also I love getting out my sketchbooks from the 90’s, early 2000’s etc. diaries, diaries ❤❤❤❤❤❤.

I love this. I wish I could work in a car but I get car sick. Even watching the video footage was triggering, HA! I get caught sketching people also. I think they get that energy of someone looking at them. Once there was a guy sleeping under a tree on the riverside. He never woke up and so I got a good 20 minutes in, YaY! Anyway, I really enjoy your thought process and how you capture little fun things like the bird on the beach or the kids peeking etc. Fun!!!

Sandi I loved the pool scenes the best. A little David Hockney-esque. Really liked how you captured the lady on the pool lounger with the boy in the water. Also your works off your balcony. Grady and your mom were troopers.

Love it. How patient is Grady? He gets an award and so does my hubby.

My Favorites are the beach water colours. Maybe because it was new vision for you it was tricky but the outcome gives a real feeling of being in the sunshine at the beach...love it. Also the media of water colour lends itself to looseness and flow in my opinion, great for abstracting landscapes. Looking forward to seeing the works that emerge from this trips sketches.

Oh goodness, you were so close to me. You probably stopped at the Bucee’s up just a few minutes from me. I’ve actually never been there though. 😂 Those sandpipers (birds) are so fun to watch. Here in Texas, Buc-ee’s (pronounced with long E) is a must for any trip. Looks like such a great trip and very productive. I know just watching this video got me wanting to start sketching.

Sandi you made me laugh about Buc-ees. We just got back from Florida and saw the signs too- only place that says "eat here, get gas"! Lol! On the east coast of Canada I have struggled with capturing the ocean as there really is no composition. But with your perspectives of including some shoreline and bringing interest to the sky, I have a better eye for it now. Thanks as always!

Thanks for sharing your art process while traveling. My favorite sketch (from the sketchbook with the white cover) is the night scene, I think from your balcony. Next favorites, from the same sketchbook, two showing the surf at the beach edge. Hard to do, but so intriguing. It'll be interesting to see what paintings may come from these sketches. I also took close note of your comment about sticking with the same materials and really learning them, especially in a new environment. Too many choices leaves me at least scattered and confused. And the challenge of rendering what you're seeing and feeling about it in fewer materials often leads to strong stuff. Hope you went for a swim here and there in addition to sketching!

I loved this. Best of your videos for a while in my opinion. :) it’s very inspiring to see the scenes you paint. I would think well a balcony scene with cars etc is too hard. You make it look fun. And i love the view from the balcony in the night scene. Wow. Loved that. “Really fun to just sketch and sketch and sketch!” Good for you Sandi!! :):)

I LOVE this so much. I just went to Cancun last week and had a hard time myself with packing light and definitely regret packing too many supplies. Next time I’m going to only bring a few tombows, my tiny watercolor palette, and colored pencils. Just to pack lighter. I got this little travel bag from scribbles that matter (I missed out on that release from your mom for those beautiful bags) and my goal was to only pack what I could fit in there. That ended up in a backpack with more. 😅 So the struggle is real and I feel this. I love watching your process.

In enjoyed this so so much!! It reminded me of everything I love about art making, this ‘sketchbooking everywhere’ is something I used to do before I several chronic illnesses knocked me down, but I am in the process of reclaiming it. I know it’s not funny in the moment, but the woman changing chairs with her husband cracked me up 🙈😅 So funny what you said about the little bird I was thinking the same thing when it showed up in footage earlier, must be fun to move that way😄 I love the sketches very inspiring!!
