These are solely for strengthening and speeding up your thighs and calves, and the best thing is you don't need the pedals to do this. When you do get to your pedals, focus on technique and your stronger muscles will over time translate to better control and speed on the double bass drum pedals.

Taking lifestyle and commitments in practice plan is a very underrated advice. I'm a boxer, professional programmer, and learning German. Finding time to practice is tough. Although I'm trying to stick to 25mins of practice in the morning and night.

I've started doing alot of double stroke rolls on the base drum and noticed it helping my ankle motion alot. Btw i remember watching some lessons on double pedals from you like a year or two ago. Gotta say you have gotten way better, the ankle motion looks smooth. This technique will get you to real high tempos with consistency!

no you're okay. I couldn't do this too 8 years ago. I tried it and became really frustrated because I wasn't seeing the kinda results I wanted. BUT fast forward to today, it's become natural after all the practice and patience. So you can do this. If it's 120 or 100bpm. That's your starting point whatever the speed. Go from there. All the best!

The key is to remove any unnecessary tension which always happens when you go from slow to fast without doing the proper work first. Watch all my other double bass videos. Thanks for your sharing and happy to know that it works for you. I heard many times about this method but just never tried. May I just know more about the force asserted during this practice? When I do this, I just feel muscle at the back feel pulled.
@ArtOfDrummingHQ
@ArtOfDrummingHQ 10 ай бұрын
Your muscles getting pulled meaning they're getting exerted and are gradually fatiguing as you practice? That's normal if I understand you correctly. This method is just for practicing the muscles anywhere with no need for gear. To get them strong and fast enough to take the punishment required to play double pedal. Not to be used alone though, check out my other double bass lesson videos for a full picture kzfaq.info/sun/PLqB3qW_j0ovLE10n8cmj5yPpGYjcyuoq4&si=v2SvEdq_qww7QpgZ

My heels are so stiff I can't properly put the ball of the feet flat on the floor when I'm playing, it ends up hurting if I force it, and it's not my throne, I checked, it makes me also not be able to do proper squats on flat feet

If there's pain, it's definitely a sign not to do it anymore. Might want to get your feet or legs checked out at a doctor or podiatrist. There could be an underlying injury/issue. I had one some time ago, and one of my other followers also had pain and found out he had a rare muscle disease. Or you could just have very very tight hamstrings and hips. Then perhaps some proper long term stretching could help under the supervision of an expert physiotherapist. Hopefully it's nothing serious though.

Thanks for the video! Unfortunately double bass drumming takes really a long time for me.. its extremely frustrating. I am at like 130/140bpm heel up. I always played heeldown my whole life. so i can do fast 4strokes from the shin muscles Okayish but i could never continue the first intent motion to keep blasting longer, my feet always want to start from a heel down position first. i need to relearn them. I am working on ankles. But makes no sense yet because my whole leg motion is still so slow. Probably gonna take me years😢😩 But well...

@@ArtOfDrummingHQ Basically forever, but i only started playing double bass and therefor heelUp more seriously about 3 years ago... or lets say 2! My hands and fingers are way overdeveloped for my foot speed. Sometimes I doubt myself, if I am even cut out to be playing fast double kicks, because progress is almost non existent. Ankle motion just wont click & Legs feel heavy after surpassing 130bpm.

I was stuck at 150-160bpm for 2 years too and gave up from disappointment. Later I realized my practice routine didn't suit my current physique and muscle growth. There's such a thing as overpracticing and underpracticing. For me I was overdoing it and my fatigue was too much and I wasn't letting my muscles have ample rest and recovery for growth. So I reduced my 30minute routines to just 15 minutes, and ensured that I got 1 day rest in between each foot session where I just practice other things or not at all. The calf motion took me awhile to activate properly though. But the exercises that I did eventually made it happen when I stopped thinking about how long I've been practicing it for and just focused on my personal routine and keeping it consistent.
@ArtOfDrummingHQ
@ArtOfDrummingHQ Жыл бұрын
For some people it might be underpracticing though. The legs are about 3.5x heavier than the hands, and therefore is harder to get faster. It requires a good deal more work and patience than your hands. I'm gonna put together a video next year to hopefully let you craft the most optimal routine for you.

@ArtOfDrummingHQ
@ArtOfDrummingHQ Жыл бұрын
Valid if everyone can do that, all the time. Some people aren't so fortunate to get all the gear they need due to space, time and environmental constraints, or they wanna get in extra practice away from the kit. It's not just me, other pros like Chris Turner and Derek Roddy practice this way too, with their feet on the floor. Can't deny their power and speed on the drums. And they're way better drummers than me. It's how I've gotten my results too. It's awesome to have differing opinions, but it's ludicrous to call BS on something without proper research, explanation and results.
