Say more , please? I (am a pianist) have read his autobiography (2 volumes around 1000 pages total) and want to know more. He had a visual memory, said he could memorize any piece after about three readings. Valantina Lisitska today has same kind of memory. Friend of mine stayed with him at a house in Spain some time ago, a non-musician. Remarked how this aged man suddenly became a teen-ager when he sat and play the piano!

@Hypatiarhetoric, Even when practicing it's my philosophy to allow technique to be something of artistic value rather than simply viewing it as a means to an end. And you're right, the whole point of me posting this clip of Rubinstein is because I see far too many idiots who know nothing of what it is to be a real artist. Truly deplorable when such ignorance runs around rampantly through the minds of students (and even established performers!). They are nothing more than musical parrots.
