Comparing how two VSTs inspired by the legendary Minimoog: Arturia Mini V3 and NI Monark. The goal of this video is to compare the sound of these two synths in their own right as opposed to seeing how faithful they are to the Moog they are trying to emulate.

First I compared the oscillators of the Mini V3 vs the Monark VST, then the filters, before programming the same patches on both synth plugins to see how they sounded.

My favorite Minimoog VST is the Cherry Audio Miniverse. It's just one of those synths that can't make a bad sound, it's so cheap too!

I find Monark a more exciting sound, personally. Maybe Mini V3 is better for background tracks.

Monark definitely has a more in your face and peppy sound. I could see Mini V shining with more modulation and some effects too

I prefer Monark but my favourite is the Softube Model 72

@@Mamotreco Softube is the most accurate I think. Its sound is on another level to the others. Monark has a very smooth high end and solid bass but not real analog vibes.

@@stu9000 There are so many different mini moogs though. Tolerances are all over the place. Without having access to the hardware they all modeled respectively it would be impossible to say. The Monark could sound identical to whatever Moog they had at hand and you might hate both in a direct comparison. We have a Jupiter 8 here in the studio and the Arturia version is nearly identical in terms of parameter ranges (i.e. if you set up the two sets of sliders in an identical way you'll get a very similar sound). Something like the U-he Diva on the other hand doesn't match the parameter ranges of our Jupiter. But I don't think they were ever going for that so maybe not a valid comparison anyway.
