This is my review of the Virpil ACE Interceptor Rudder Pedals. Does this set of flight-sim rudder pedals punch above their weight, are they what you would call a real value set of rudders. A good video as always. I considered these and the Crosswinds, but in the end went with the TPR as I preferred the fact the mechanism was less rotational, and the style just appealed more. They were also on sale so were cheaper than the other two. I’ll add a dampener at some point. All three are good options. If I ever upgraded it would probably have to be FFB.

TPR’s are the good standard really. And yea the move straight forward and back which is nice. I used the Brunner ffb rudders for a while. Simply amazing!

Agreed - very interesting. I was in exactly the same boat and I have just ordered the TPR as well. Good to see the comparison here though.

@@chrismayne1613 However a recent review said they were swapping to the new Winwing pedals from the TPR due to the damper. Though it is a paid extra on the Winwing, and you can mod the TPR. One comment from another channel said they thought the TPR needed an update, and were also ordering the Winwing despite having already added a damper to the TPR. I’m still happy with the TPR though, but should try the mod.

VPC software + hardware sync is best in market, hands down. More complex to use? Yes, by a margin, but when you're spending hundreds of dollars on sim gear and likely trying to ensure it's value across every sim software you have (DCS, MSFS, BMS, XPlane, space sims, etc), and each of THOSE has quirks of how they want to treat your device hardware, it presents likely rough edges. Virpil wants your gear to be completely unlocked and flexible as per whatever the hardware and HID (Windows USB platform) can support. Virpil's has the most flexible and configurable devices WHILE running those configurations on the device firmware itself so you don't need to run extra software with your sim for those configurations to work like TARGET from TM -- at least with the Warhog. WinWing does firmware configuration too meaning you don't need SimApp pro once you've changed your device configuration, but does not offer full configuration. Virpil notably does have some ability to control LED state from buttons and axes on device, but WinWing you do need SimApp pro running. Both VPC and WinWing need software to have LEDs respond to in-game state. I don't know what VKB does in terms of firmware or extra software to enable extended configuration. VPC Link Tool enables simulator access to LED states, and while it's not as complete as what you'd get with DCS-Export and DCS-BIOS, both of those tools drop performance in DCS substantially (1% an .1% lows; stutter) while VPC's software has no noticable impact. Essententially, if Virpil has a comparable offering for what I am looking for in sim gear, I will prefer their version because I know their software will allow me to use the same hardware more flexibly and smoothly for all software, current and future.

@ebony you can add FS9 (MSFS 2004) Virpil is the only next gen HOTAS that i have found that works with FS9. that is why i chose them. my only problem now is adjusting the sensitivity of the controls or maybe even adding a dead zone. i have the next few days off so i will go into the virpil settings and see if i can do that.

Totally agree with you! These pedals need a damper. It makes a huge different having it. Now, I fly exclusively helis and I modded mine to fit my needs. I think they are very well made and you can get tougher springs (I don't need springs for a heli) at the hardware store. This is a great and to the point review, love your channel and enjoy watching your videos quite a bit! Cheers

Much like most of my Virpil gear, I scored a used set of ACE Flight Pedals. I do plan on buying the damper mod. I was very happy with my purchase.

@@g-locmedia I have had it for a couple of months. The only remaining piece that I want for my Virpil collection is a left Alpha Prime, Z extension and a suitable base for an omni throttle.

I love these, very precise and very very well made. Also they stay put on the floor (on my carpet at least). The tension is less than a real C172, but that is minor issue. Great price point. Didn't know the damper mod is available already! It would be a nice upgrade, but not a big deal.

These will likely be my next set of rudder pedals. My main criticism on the design is how far the pedals are set apart. Doesn't seem realistic to me. Do you find them fatiguing at all? Do you know if any of the rollers require lubrication from time to time?

I don't find them fatiguing. Actually quite comfortable to use. I reckon those bearing t the front may need some lubrication in time. I've put about 50hrs in to them and haven't heard a squeak yet though.

I have the MFG pedals and had a struggle to deal with them slipping on ceramic floor tile. I solved the problem by mounting them on a plywood base with multiple non-slip rubber disks on the underside. How did the multiple rubber feet of the Virpil do when using maximum deflection of the pedals on one side or the other as when doing a slip to drop altitude?

They don’t budge as is but if I had my way and had higher spring tension I reckon I’d have to hard mount them.

@@g-locmedia Quite happy with the MFG's. Very realistic for C172 Training via X-Plane 11 - as confirmed by my CFI. Excellent value for money. My flying buddy who is an experienced private pilot really likes his Thrustmaster TPR pedals. Choices are always good. In sum, an upgrade from my MFG's would have to be the big step up to the Brunner ForceFeedBack pedals.

I have ALL Virpil Gear but NOT the Rudder Pedals I went with MFG Crosswind. The reason is Virpil was having a lot of issues back then and reviews of the pedals were my reason for going with MFG Crosswind. I would think Virpil now has the issues worked out but I use a Damper and do not like the Spring action of the Virpil. Good Video again

I’m looking at getting a set of pedals and I’m completely stuck between the Virpil’s, Slaw and TM TRP. I would have gotten Baur BRD’s but they’re no longer available, although the owner/designer of Baur went to Virpil and designed the ACE pedals, which is partly why I’m interested in them. Slaw has the Viper RX right now, but he might make the Dora RF’s next which I’d really like to get. And the TM TPR pendulum set look great and seem very comfortable. Would you recommend the Virpil’s?

@@catsooeyYou might want to look at the new Winwing too. In a review they and a comment from another channel said they were switching from the TPR to the Winwing, due to the TPR not having a damper. I really like the TPR mechanism and will add a damper at some point.

I plan on buying a set of these within the next month or so. I'm curious whether the "lighter" feel will make them easier for use with helos... Overall, I like the fact that they're so customizeable.

A couple of years ago I replaced my Saitek Rudder pedals with the MFG Crosswinds and got the damper mod for it and they work very well. Biggest issue is stability out of the box so mounting them to a base is highly recommended. It was a tough decision then and still is now. I fully expect the MFGs to last me for many years. I do not feel you can go wrong with either, and I would say Virpil is the larger of the two companies. Once set up the MFG's do not require you to run any specific software, however you will need to move all axis to there extents each time you restart your computer. For reference I mainly fly DCS (Fixed and Rotary wing), MFSF 2020 and X-Plane 12. Also - I currently have them mounted to a Next Level Racing Boeing sim pit.

I am using the BF 109's, they work best with my set up. I do have the combat pedals as well but ended up not using them
