Days of torrential rain have led to massive flooding in Guilin, a major city in Guangxi in southwest China.
Authorities raised a 'red' flood warning signal, the highest level, on Wednesday when the water level of the Li River, which runs through the city, reached 3.61 metres above the warning line.
Roads were completely inundated as Guilin authorities urged departments, townships and scenic spots to help prevent and combat possible flooding in the coming days.
Water levels of major rivers continue to rise, according to state media.
The visuals also showed the Guilin Railway station flooded, with an eyewitness saying they could not exit the premises after disembarking their train.
Station officials suspended some operations, according to a statement from its official Weibo social media account.
Rescuers have their hands full, pulling people out of danger and taking people to safer places.
The annual flooding season in China began earlier this year.
The southern provinces have faced intense storms that have swept away bridges and destroyed low-rise homes, devastated agricultural output and submerged numerous cities.
But in another part of China, it’s just the opposite.
A severe drought in Jinan, the capital of China's Shandong province, has rendered corn fields parched.
Weeks of scarce rainfall and sweltering heat has brought drought to several provinces including Shandong, a major agricultural province with over 3.2 million hectares of corn planted this season.
Crop damage has been extensive. China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs activated a level-III emergency response to combat droughts in the provinces of Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong and Henan, state media reported.
China has a four-tier drought emergency response system, with level 1 being the most severe.
Some parts of Hebei, Henan and Shandong could see temperatures reaching upwards of 43.8 degrees Celsius, potentially breaking historical records for June.
