VanessaACI yeah it’s a loop, God punishes Satan by making him unknowingly relive the birth of the universe over and over again only to end with him destroying the world and the only person he loves in the progress.

my theory is that the baton represents love, miko passes it to miki and before miko died she confessed her love for miki, miki passes it to akira and when miki died she kept repeating “akira the baton” since miki and akira lived together for ten years they had some sort of love (wether it be platonic or romantic idk), when akira tried to pass the baton to ryo, ryo didn’t take it. because ryo didn’t understand he loved akira till it was to late. in the final scene ryo takes the baton, showing that he now understands live even if it’s to late

When Akira said “ you’re crying too “ when the cat died, I was so confused. But now I realize, his soul was crying, and Akira felt it. It’s like, and it may not be true, but I feel like God gave Akira to Ryo for punishment. An angel from heaven, to punish Ryo for his sins. He fell in love with Akira, and honestly, it’s so depressing, I mean Ryo deserved it, but he’s been in pain all this time, and he has to go through it again and again. And the fact that in the end he didn’t get to tell Akira his love for him, hurts. And it might of not been romantic love, but it was pure love. It really was, and I feel so bad for him. Like oh my god, I am sobbinggg, and I can’t stop om. And also, one last thing. The worst punishment of all that ryo had to get was with in the end, Akira hating Him. Edit: just my thoughts, AGAIN, it might not be true, just my thoughts. But I do agree with some of the ppl in the comments, SO YES OKAY BYEOEBEP

Actually I don’t think Akira hating him was that much of an issue for him. I think the biggest punishment was losing Akira. God is trying to find a way to punish Satan because the first time his actions were meaningless. Ryo didn’t feel the affect of his punishment. Akira is like this ball of empathy. He has so much empathy that he can theoretically feel other’s emotions without even trying. He feels ryo’s pain but ryo doesn’t even realise or acknowledge it. Refusing to believe him, Ryo is adamant he can’t feel anything. Ryo drives Akira to death and finally after Akira dies he understands. He does love him. He can feel sorrow. He can feel loss. But this realisation has come far too late for Ryo, but perfectly for god. As now Ryo will never be able to come to terms with his love and sorrow. He will never be able to properly grieve for Akira as he doesn’t know how and there is no one left to show him (as the one to teach him would’ve been Akira). He will eternally feel pain in his heart and he can never heal from it. Edit: wanted to add, I don’t think GOD made Akira to punish Ryo. Or at least I don’t think so. It makes more sense (to me) for it to be happenstance. As God lacks empathy just like Ryo, and just like the rest of the angels. This is why God failed to punish Ryo the first time. He doesn’t understand what brings him pain because they’re all the same breed.

this killed me. when ryo realized that love truly did existed, and that he loved akira, it was too late. because of his selfish intention of wanting the world only for akira and himself, he ended up dooming everyone. akira on the other hand loves ryo as a friend, but also loves everyone else. he wanted peace, he wanted everyone to feel safe and happy. its both love, just 2 definitions. 2 ways of showing it.

It’s aches to know that Akira, a half man half demon, had such a unbreakable hope, love, pure kindness that it convinced the devil himself that deep down love is what gives everyone hope , it’s what bring everyone together. And when Ryo finally came to the realization Akira died. Just like with the cat dying Ryo knew Akira was too weak yet he still cried and felt lonely and lost, he was too late to confess his own love and nurtures to person who Loved and cared for everyone. (Akira will to protect the ones he loved just for them to be killed in the end is what really hits tho 😔😔)

!!SPOILERS!! “Love does not exist. Theres no love, therefore theres no sorrow.” Moments after Ryo said that, he realized that Akira died. And he felt sorrow after that because he did love Akira, he just didn’t realize it while he was alive. The devil finally felt love and sorrow. Edit: Ty for the likes lmao never expected this to blow up. AND if youre looking for an anime that can rip u to pieces bcos u want to get hurt for sum reason, i really recommend banana fish bcos it reminds me of dmcb but t.w. r*pe and somehow nude scenes but not as worse as dmcb’s.

*WARNING SPOILERS* _My Personal Opinions, Thoughts and Theories:_ I personally think that the moon represents Ryo's and Akira's friendship. When Ryo and Akira were battling Ryo broke the moon in half. Which is true because Ryo ruined his friendship with Akira by making Amon share a body with Akira and ultimately kill the entire human population and toon everything away from Akira that he loved. But at the end of the movie after the credits. We see two moons. Which came from the broken moon that Ryo broke. But before that scene we saw angels coming down to earth after Ryo cried. I don't think it's a time loop. Because Akira and his family don't deserve that type of punishment and God isn't like that. God is giving Ryo a second chance. Why? Because Ryo accepted love into his heart, he always said "Why are you crying, it was going to die anyway" and yet Ryo is crying even though he knows Akira was gonna die. Ryo accepted love into his heart, so God is giving him a second chance. God isn't the type of person to punish good people like Akira like that just to punish someone else. He is not only giving Ryo a second chance, but Akira. Ryo accepted love into his heart, he's learning his lesson. There is no need to punish Ryo. So I think the time loop would be irrelevant if Ryo is accepting love in his heart the first time and to keep punishing Akira. The two moons for me represent God giving Ryo and the Humans the second chance ( not all humans deserve it, they turned Miki into a kebab ), it also means to me that Their friendship is able to be fixed because now that Ryo accepted love he now knows the consequences of his actions. I don't think this was a punishment at all when I think about it. But more of a way to get Ryo to see and understand love. It worked in the end didn't it?

This show has both the saddest and happiest ending. It shows that love is real and even satan is capable of it. But it also shows how Ryo doubted that love existed so he took everything from the one he loved and killed him before he realized he loved him.

Bro the last ending scene just hurt me in a different way. I’m just empty after watching the last few seconds. “What the hell?!” but then I understood. It just hurt so bad when Ryo was pouring his feelings to Akira when he didn’t realize Akira was dead. It’s so sad he couldn’t tell Akira his feelings before he died. “Please don’t leave me!” that just broke me. I never expected it to end like this, it was honestly so heartbreaking.

I laughed at the beginning while watching the orgy then stared blankly at the end while watching Ryo hug Akira's torso, finally realizing that he loved Akira but was never able to tell him and that the Devil himself had to live with his mistakes for the rest of eternity without the one person that finally made him feel something. Ouch, show. Just... ouch.

This anime was sad, but I felt bad for Akira more. He became a demon and it changed his life forever, he spent the rest of his life hunting demons, killing others, being judged by others due to him being a demon when really he has a heart. He lost everything due to Ryo and the demons. Akira I'm so sorry you had to go through all this 👏
