i think the NPC/Video game character analogy isn't good as audience might take away he literally thinks like that which he obviously knows they are people its more like he doesn't the idea of other's people having agency and respecting their viewpoints/ask, not a personality that he has made up in his mind which he projects,its more of subconscious thing(Sad thing many adults behave like this even at those seated highest echelon of society)....which i think gets lost in if we say subaru thinks of them as NPC analogy
