As an owner of the previous Ascher F28 this is a hard sell for me. I don't see the need for backlit buttons as I already know where to press for the desired function, and having tried 300mm wheels I do prefer the narrower form of the F28. However the biggest sticking point for me is the non user replaceable rechargeable battery in the Simucube version, meaning the wheel probably has a lifetime of only 3-5 years - the USB version obviously does not have this problem.

I understand your arguments. Altho I own a Cube Controls since something like 2019 and the battery is still going strong. I dunno if SimuCube has specs for the batteries tho, so I dunno if they are comparable. But hei, have fun with the F28, maybe the next wheel we test will be your thing :-)

The looks of a wheel are fairly subjective but in this matter for me Ascher is elevating up - I like it more than their previous iterations like F28. A bit of off topic... not only on your channel but also on other channels, I have heard the point about the size of various wheels. I have to admit I struggle a bit with it - In some way sim racers do prefer smaller wheels. As it can be true to their real life counterparts in the formula style racing, that does not correspond to other categories. Something which is hard to question is that GT3 is the most popular category in sim racing and cars like Mercedes AMG GT3 have the wheel with the 310mm diameter (and Ascher wheel will fit into the GT style category). Considering that so many people pay attention to replicating the real life experience as much as possible, I am surprised about complaints about the wheels which are 300 or 310mm. Sure it might be feeling strange if we change from something smaller but from the immersion perspective I would personally prefer to stick to the real life sizes

To be precise, it was just and observation. The size of the wheel can correlate with some users not being able to reach the buttons right. OTOH it's a fair point about the immersion. The whole range of the Ascher McLaren Artura wheels is designed with the GT car in mind and therefore nearer to real life than others. I suppose in this regard we sim racers want to have our cake and eat it too. But as I said in the review, the ergonomics of this wheel are great. I could reach all buttons with no issues and was able to handle the wheel with no problems at all. And the quality of the wheel is as you would expect from Ascher fantastic.

What was the battery life in your testing?

I had the wheel active for about 20 hours for testing (and initial loading of the battery) and didn't have to reload once. In general, these batteries nowadays last for 40+ hours of running time. Turn the wheel off after your session and you can go MONTHS before you have to reload. As for the overall battery life (That is, until it doesn't load significantly anymore) I can not say. I can only say the battery of the Cube Controls I bought 5 years ago shows no sign of weakness and even less of dying. Ascher being a company renowned for its engineering and quality, I expect at least the same amount of life expectancy.

@@WromWrom Thanks, trying to figure out if I pull the trigger now or should I wait for the cable version

@@ahojekk3229 Cables bother me personally, but of course the median time before breaking of a cable may ne smaller than that of a battery. It may come down to a matter of taste...
