Richmond sausage is proof of good advertising!! They're basically mush!! I tend to buy the "finest" ranges, but a good real old school butcher will always be the best... Your local butcher is the way to go . I can’t believe that 6 or 7 main grocers are feeding 60 / 70 million people . Never ever thought it was a good idea . I live in Vietnam my wife goes to the open market everyday to buy local fresh produce. Super stores have not taken off here neither have fast food chains.

@@supersonicsid5930 True that, people don't realise how good the quality and value is if you shop around local butchers. I got a massive leg of lamb from a farmers market at not much more than half a leg from Aldi, my local butchers does amazing quality meats and the price is competitive, maybe slightly more expensive than the cheapest crap but it's quality over quantity for me. I wouldn't feed richmond sausages to the dog but I need to go and get me some more of those pork and scrumpy cider sausages, and a giant cumberland wheel, oh and some steak pie too, though I make a good steak pie myself, those from the pork shop in Poulton are the dogs bollocks and deserve their award of best steak pie in the country and as a pie connoisseur I can confer.

Got to admit never really been keen on Richmond, always preferred the great British bangers from Walls. However I recently tried the Supermarket own standard brand (Tesco). I noticed when I was looking at the labels that they had more percentage pork over the Walls and were 75p less at £1.75. They were blooming loverly - can't always say that Brands are best nowadays! Like you I would say to anyone to try that cheaper product. If you don't like it at least you gave it a go, if you do then you are saving. With prices going up and up we have got to try and get more banger for our buck (sorry for the pun) 😁

First off, good video. Thanks. I agree with Mike, I'd expect a dog to turn its nose up at the Richmonds. I bought a massive pack from Costco recently thinking they might be alright but honestly they are among the worst sausages I've ever tried and I won't be buying them again. I was surprised by this video because I expected a negative response to the Richmonds. I think they only just qualify as pork sausages legally due to the low meat content. That in itself wouldn't make them bad but honestly they are awful (in my opinion). Cheers and merry Christmas.

Cannot go wrong with these for 80p, Tesco also have these also 80p, they also have red tractor logo on them which guarantees, they are British/Northern lrish pork. The sponge texture off these sausages is chickpea's and potato starch/corn flour which used to make sausages look big.

I wouldn't buy either of them, why? The meat content in both is poor. The content is like sludge so probably made from 'mechanically recovered meat' meaning it is blasted off the animal carcass with high powered water jets. The Richmond pack may contain 12 but they are thin & anaemic, the ASDA ones are also anaemic looking & again very sludgy. I buy Lidl Deluxe Cumberland 400gm for £1.99 (6 sausages) - meat content is a whopping 90% & little fat comes out during cooking. They are spicy, peppery & herby too and have chunky meaty texture & full of flavour - Aldi do a similar sausage for the same price. Even Tesco Finest are only a few pence more. Value for money wise? Certainly not Asda or Richmond as you are not getting much meat for your money and they are bulked up with rusk filler & full of fat. As you don't have a Lidl - try the Aldi ones & do a comparison between them & the cheap Asda & expensive Richmond products......you will be surprised! Think I might buy a Ninja too 😃

I grew up just round the corner from where Richmond's Irish recipe sausages were originally made in Litherland, Liverpool by a small corner shop butchers, called Richmond's. The sausages became so popular that Mr Richmond built a big factory 100 yards down the road. I think he later sold up and the factory was shut down and production moved somewhere else. I remember as a kid in the 80's walking past the old factory which was later pulled down and a children's nursery was built on the site. I have always hated Richmond's sausages though as they just have no flavour to me. I wonder how close to the original recipe the the sausages are today

G'day Gareth. Nice choice the sausages for a review. I'm a Snagavore when it comes to these tasty morsels, they're a regular staple on my table. "I'll have the ASDA as they're more satisfying said the Actress to the Bishop"..😉 The Richmond have almost twice as much salt per sausage for its size. The ASDA are better in value for contents and size overall. Tip Time: Airfrying sausages will dry the casings out causing them to shrink. Best to lightly coat them with oil and cook / airfry @ 170 for 9-10 minutes (depending on the thickness) turning once halfway. The oil will stop the skins from drying out and looking mummified.. Unless you really like a torte crisp skin. Believe me Gareth, this method works best when airfrying the humble sausage. 👍😀 Gareth, did you try the Bunnings Hardware weekend sausage sizzle while you were here in Oz? Well that's how most Aussie's start or end their Bunnings shopping visit Saturday and Sunday. I love my snags in a bread roll with bacon and onion and BBQ sauce. They said that Richmond were the most popular brand in the UK but were only allowed to be sold as sausages because it says "Irish Recipe"! Otherwise their meat content was too low to be classed as a sausage in the UK! Whether that's correct or not, I don't know but it's definitely what they said! I've always avoided them since!

I do ;like and use Richmond sausages for sandwiches at work. Now I think the Asda ones are better value. You said that they are a bit looser, maybe another min in the air fryer :-)

Great review once again gareth and they both looked nice I've not had the asda ones but had the Richmond's on many occasions but nothing beats proper butchers sausages and if it's a buttie red sauce and if it's a toastie brown sauce and the same goes with bacon 👍👍🌭🌭🥓🥓PS I love that jacket you said it's a hand me down I had one years ago were did your friend get it from???

@michaelknowles22122 жыл бұрын
The problem is you are trying to compare two different sizes the Asda ones are 8 links to a pound the Richmond are 12 to a pound, also the Richmond are skinless the Asda are skin on. Try the test again with the 8 to a pound Richmond sausages.

A long time since I last bought Richmond sausages and I was shocked how much fat came out of them. You didn't mention what was at the bottom of the air fryer. Sometimes you put foil at the bottom but didn't this time. Is it easy to clean or do you leave that to your good wife?
@BaldFoodieGuy2 жыл бұрын
Haha I certainly do not, I would get linched if I left it dirty. I wash and clean everything myself. I'm domesticated you know 🤣🤣🤣 I find it best to cook with what they provide. Hot air gets blown around inside, I don't want to make barriers for the heat. You still have to wash everything even when you use foil as fat spray goes all over. Let's face it if you use it you have to wash it. 👍👍
@smudger6712 жыл бұрын
Agree with you about the fat content. They were swimming in it!

Worth mentioning Richmond sausages are the best selling in UK. The salt content of the Richmond is 2.3g per 100g, ASDA Farm store 1.3g per 100g if that's important

Nice one Gareth, Getting my weekly shop in tomoz and sausages are on the list. 95% of the time I get Richmond.. but I'll try the Farm stores this time round. You may have converted me!

Well trying is the key. We have all different tastes. I just tried meat free hot dogs. That's my next video. It's a shocker 😳😳😳
@VsUK2 ай бұрын
Just watched this video for the first time, even though it's 2 yrs+ old, I thought I would give people an update. I never tried ASDA's own sausages, it's not somewhere I usually shop. But I've always had Richmond sausages when doing a sausage butty or in a pasta bake or with mash. And something I've noticed with them, is they tend to look like old mens fingers once cooked. And I've tried various cheap sausages & they always tasted cheap. So, I gave ASDA's ones a go, cant remember the price, think they were 85P for a pack of 8. Well, after cooking for 25 mins in air fryer, they were round, juicy & very tasty. I always like my sausage butties with some over cooked baked beans, you know when they go a bit stodgy, mmm beautiful.
@Fur80022 жыл бұрын
I prefer Richmond sausages and they can be bought in packs of 16 for the freezer too. The main reason I prefer Richmond sausages is that they are skinless as I have found that most sausages with skins are horrible when fried and the skins are synthetic and often very thick.
@terencebarrett28972 жыл бұрын
Colin a lot of sausages are made with a kind of plastic skins, a synthetic skin, but just like 'if the big boys can cut corners,save money,more profits etc and no one cares,,well" its just like our UK traditional foods,they have been gradually eradicated 'for cheapness, convenience,chemical additives and non food value,than is the standards we have now in UK ,and if you at all like certain foods,,ooh its bad for "YOU" not us " YOU" our children now don't know our UK traditional foods,,its pizza,curries pot noodles ,etc,,,even ha ha housewives," girls at school in the process of being ladies,future wives,mothers" English cookery lessons was stopped,and was put on onus of,because you are a woman, wife,mother that shouldn't be YOUR ROLE, they've changed the roles of man + woman"" man was the hunter, provider,protector etc woman was mother wife cook,house maker, so while food is made by machines, cheap,convenient crap,easy its suited to the *"*""". because that's all they know, if you gave them a turnip,tatties carrots they wouldn't know what to do with them.

In 1986 I went into a shop local to my (then) work, the lady behind the counter was using a perfumed room spray, the smell in the shop was disgusting, I can’t think of a stronger word without using swear words! The reason was the two sausage factory workers who had just left 😲 I’ve only ever used butchers or farm shop sausages since then!

Asda farm store sausages are not sold at my local asda, searching the online store only lists bacon, which i tried and the slices where paper thin to 3-4mm thick only ever had "cooking bacon" like that. For sausges i get the £1.50 for 454g cumberland or Lincolnshire, preffer sweet chilli sauce with the Lincolnshire and daddies with the cumberland. Take care, God bless one and all.

Good review, don't think I will ever eat the Richmond ones as even on the tv ad they look like they have been processed beyond belief and don't even look meaty. When buying sausages, I always go for the higher meat content or lowest carbs. If the sausages are good, then I have no sauce in the sandwich. If the taste of the sausages is dubious or the bacon is american, then it's brown sauce for me.
