100% agree here. Get rid of the seasonal update cadence and deadlines will never be broken because they cannot be. Year 1 was brilliant. They released updates WHEN they were ready. Not by a certain date. They create dates which content is mean't to be released at, get rid of em! Delays aside, can't wait for the rest of the Legend of Monkey Island. Really hoping for some big story moments! 🤞

Something really bad must've happened if they were a week off and needed to delay it by an additional 2 months. On one hand I'm glad but its still gonna launch with numerous issues anyways.

What worries me is that in the videos they don't seem all that excited about S10. I understand that while you are breaking sad news you would be solemn but when talking about season 10 there is no smirks, no smiles, no excitement. They have been very excited about Monkey Island. They love that this other IP is being weaved into SoT. So there being seemingly no joy about S10 makes me worried that it is going to be lackluster (besides being tardy).

I’ve been gaming a long time. Longer than a lot of the people playing the game have been alive. Over that time I have developed instincts for when something is going wrong. Ever since I watched their offical announcement I just have this sinking feeling that I just watched the end of sea of thieves. Let me be clear, I don’t wish that, I love this game and the community, one of my favourite games of all time. But I just can’t shake that feeling that something is seriously wrong at Rare with how they manage this game, and that video might have been on of the final nails in the coffin. Season 10 might be make or break but I know another delay of two months really crushed a lot of people, myself included, and will likely mean lots of people just won’t come back. Monkey island (although good) doesn’t cut it, and events would be great…. If there was something to do or buy or work towards, but there just isn’t.

Maybe this will be the moment they decide to go back to the old way of doing updates and release the cosmetics pass separate from the content. Then it would be a great moment I really enjoyed the SURPRISE element of the big updates, made the news updates exciting too.

I agree with the delay. Season 10 will be either the final dawn of sea of theives or a new horizon. They will need time to make a massive update, well hopefully a massive update.

Honestly sort of pissed I missed out on the Adventures that tie into Monkey Island, making the reveal feel moot and pointless. As a returning player from when this game launched with fuck all to do, I'm extremely disappointed with how the story's been handled, where if I want to catch up on everything, I have to watch KZfaq instead of playing content. What's this game been doing the past 6+ years?!? Why is the story of the game tied to FOMO?!?! This is bullshit!

So putting my conspiracy theory hat on, I believe they have been damaged control since the mystery. I believe they knew they couldn't finish season 10 in times so they rushed monkey island and change the mystery to give the community more things too play with. It's interesting that monkey island ends 1 month before season 10 update and we get the delay a week after monkey island.

They used to do a 3-month update schedule and couldn't keep to that. Then somehow they tried to do smaller monthly updates and definitely failed at that. Then they finally tried a season pass system on a set schedule. I knew then that they'd regularly fail at it. Rare should be trying to do small regular updates with just cosmetics, and occasionally putting out large actual-change updates whenever they're actually able. I also would pay a hefty sum for a no-progress player-side server system where I can play through all the old updates. Have access to previous locations, characters, and adventures.

The community as a whole is pretty patient, but this is getting ridiculous

YES! We need to get rid of seasons all together, if they cannot commit to it they shouldn't brand their game to look like it has 4 updates a year.

I will admit, the seasonal update schedule we have now is bad for some projects like what we will be getting in season 10. However I still do appreciate the seasons since they allow the devs to add new cosmetic content to earn along with currency. Overall the seasons have their benefits but they don’t fit well with releasing new content like tall tales or things like world events

As much as I like them moving the plot forwards, I think they're really spreading themselves thin churning out limited time adventures all the time and it's showing

I haven’t agreed with any of the seasonal scrapping ideas before as I personally really enjoy grinding Plunder Pass’, but making them permanent and just coupling them with disparately timed large drops would be fantastic

I agree rare should get rid of seasons lot of them just don’t feel like actual content updates. Seasons 1, 3, 7, 8 are about the only ones I can remember actual content and it being fun or new I would count season 9 for monkey island but season 9 as a whole just isn’t all that good of a season.

I see this as mostly positive, we still have the other two monkey island quests to look forward too and a massive update now in October with them combining season 10 and 11

I think Monkey island and events like G&G will bring players back for a day or two, but honestly this situation is just PERFECT proof that sot needs permanent season passes, longer season passes and infinite gold and doubloon tiers. Weekly trials should get a revamp too, having some sort of weekly counter to complete content introduced in the season that rewards you with gold and doubloons or possibly even a trinket at the end of the month. Small changes like this could draw out the initial season hype longer and give players a reason to carry on grinding or completing seasonal content without feeling like it’s pointless.

I think personally rare should go with the same season system that new halo did, pick one out of all and thats what you level up, it would be nice if we could buy and switch between all of them

Suppose it'll be a longer wait but as with alot of other people i'd prefer them to release it when its done and ready rather than throw it out by their promise date and bug fix it for 3 months. As for monkey island, as "short" as the first one was for me (about 3-4 hours) i still enjoyed it alot and look forward to the other parts! i also think it'd be quite the entrance too for flameheart if he appeared in the final one, maybe to take the sword now that its in a place he can get it easier and away from the Pirate Lord. For fun, going off ashinyrays idea of Flameheart making an appearance at the end- imagine if at the end of fighting Lechuck, rather than him being done by your own hands.. a decent sized group of reaper dressed skeletons barge in. They surround the area to prevent anyone from leaving and also start to make a path in front of LeChuck, seemingly for someone to walk through when suddenly Flameheart steps in behind the last skeleton, maybe that last skeleton is the voice of the flame or Flameheart Jr. Flameheart is seen to be in full form and walks up to LeChuck, takes his sword, and finishing Lechuck right then and there without mercy before saying something to you. Perhaps revealing he manipulated Lechuck in order to get it out to an easier location to retrieve it or maybe it was a convenient moment where LeChuck didnt really know what he had, just knew it was a powerful artifact, and that it ended up sealing his own fate.

Is it good that they are waiting to make sure things "work", as well as new Rare game features can? Yes, of course. But the fact that it's been delayed a few times now and they are just now really acknowledging it baffles me. Not to mention that someone like a development or project lead should have prepared and known there would be a delay based on where they were at months ago. And probably did. But again, there was no communication to the players. There was no, "We're sorry, but it may take an extra few weeks or a month to work out the kinks." It's three months. Just when players thought we were going to get something new, outside of an alright but not all that replayable tall tale, we get the news that it will be another three months before we see any real meaningful changes to the game again. Remember, there has been one adventure this year, one yearly anniversary event, and a four week mystery hunt that was almost entirely online and out of game. The last time we had any real meaningful changes to the game happened in March. It will be the end of October before we get whatever may come next. If you don't include world event rebalancing, mostly meant for smaller crews, the last real shakeup would have been nearly a year before the next season releases. Let that sink in for a moment. Yes, it's good that they are delaying it to HOPEFULLY make a more enjoyable and stable launch experience. But this should have been realized and communicated before it was delayed several times and we are at the door of the new season releasing. I feel like they spent more time and energy focusing on their social medias being boosted for a month than they have promoting any in game content the past seven months, outside of the endless emporium. Players have every right to be outright annoyed at this point. If Season 10 isn't a true shakeup and gives reason for many veteran players to return and play consistently again, this game is going to be in even harder times going forward.

5:40 I mean, it's one of the Ashen Gems, Flameheart uses them to corrupt pirates into becoming his minions. They grant you power while you have them infused in your body, but they erode at your mind, causing you to want more of them. Once you have too many, depending on how strong of a pirate you are, you can become anything from a peon to a full blown Ashen Lord. Source, the Sea of Thieves RPG, Book of Voyages. I have a feeling LeChuk is slowly being corrupted by Flameheart, and it'll turn into a big fight with changing Boss Theme.

Honestly this actually will help the season 10 and monkey island stuff as they aren’t fighting eachother for attention and one thing I hope is added is that there is some customizable ship expansion that uses majic to have a new area open where captaincy stuff can be more used mainly on the sloop then we can get to customize our ship with furniture and the area can disappear and close if you are at shallow water or in a fight and it’s not a load area also I won’t be surprised if the Xbox one will be dropped for support as well I’ve used one for nearly a year and it was so laggy and now with the series X it’s drastic with the difference so maybe the lower hardware might make it harder

Probably the event I’m hoping for has some cool cosmetics is legends week and I hope it has the golden legendary set because I’ve noticed not a lot of year one pirate legends play the game as often as they did I’ve only met/seen 3 in my 4 and a half years of sailing. Allowing us players new and old to get that exclusive reward would allow more of those lost to time cosmetics to return. I know some people will disagree but just like the obsidian items that are locked away having another opportunity to get a rare cosmetic is good. To the Legends 🍺

Honestly the updates that take the longest are system updates. Remember how Season 7 took super long and the only thing it added was new commendations and the ability to name your ship? And then Season 8 came right on time and it added an elaborate PVP mode with like dozens of new cosmetics including like four new curses?

All I want is the burning blade as an actual playable weapon. Hopefully with some more cosmetic changes added to it so it's not the same as the sword of souls but red/orange.

Look at the release dates of the MI tall tales. Look at the new projected release date of Season 10. Coincidence? Perhaps. Or perhaps it's Disney pulling the strings. Disney is about Disney and Disney alone. Understandably they would want their product (MI) to be put into the spotlight for both the SoT community and the gaming world at large. Why would they want to share that stage? Why would Disney want Rare to place its focus on something other than its own product while said product is being rolled out? The moment Rare inked the deal with Disney, the direction of the game was fundamentally changed: That is, what's taken place since a handful of months prior to the A Pirate's Life launch, its current state, and what will in all likelihood continue to happen, is the logical outcome of getting into bed with a corportate entity such as Disney. If you believe that somehow the trajectory will magically change on 10/19, I'm not sure what to say. I do hope that I am wrong, about all of it. I love this game, it's community, and Rare's passion. But it's my contention that they're no longer actually in control of things, and haven't been for some time now. Again, I hope I'm wrong. Let me be clear here and state that I'm not saying Rare is lying about wanting to make sure Season 10 is fully functionable at launch; I believe them. But both things can be true, and yet not entirely the case at the same time: semantics.

All it means to me is just that I have a bit of extra time to finish up the battle pass :)

I sincerely thank Rare because I love Sea of Thieves! I am grateful to have things when they are ready and not before. That said every update has been adding more glitches and stability issues which are adding up. I understand Rare want to tell a story with adventures but it is undeniable now the focus on adventures is detracting from the overall experience and health of the base game. Please, rebalance your priorities.

I don't think seasons in a live service sandbox game like Sea of Thieves is a bad idea at all, in theory. The problem is that the launch of a new season rarely actually does anything to affect players' gameplay loop. Sometimes there's 1 new voyage and it's either the best available and you spam it until you never wanna do it again, or it's undertuned from release and completely pointless. The plunder pass is completed in 2-3 decent sessions even for kinda semi-casual players. The rest of the game is filled with commendations and milestones that seem forced in just to give players more "fill the bar" stuff. It's all hollow. The main attraction of every season trailer is the Pirate Emporium and not because Rare wants to be pushy with their marketing, there just isn't anything else really new most of the time. I've been playing Sea of Thieves since way before seasons were a thing and, in my opinion, the Hourglass PVP system and the PVE event scaling system have had the biggest real effects on how the game can be played, nothing else even comes close in my opinion. Remember when they tried to hype up the release of stools and being able to sit on objects? That should be enough said right there... We need more NEW content that goes along and synchronizes well with the content that is already in the game before, not move on to the new 1 voyage that you do because the others give you way less rewards. When was the last time people farming Athena rep had actual options? It's either been the latest voyage or the FoF, everything else is a waste of time even considering doing if you want to farm reputation. It's the same with the gold values attached to treasure items and gold costs for things you can buy for your ship or character. It just doesn't matter enough and new things aren't coming out regularly enough. The fact that the playerbase seems filled to the brim with people who refuse to wrap their head around the concept of PVPVE, probably isn't much help either. If they try to release PVP and PVE oriented content simultaneously, that have some sort of connection to one another, entitled snowflakes throw tantrums.

I do hope LeChuck is another force working against Flamheart rather than with him. I’ve been waiting for a big payoff for the tension between the Dark Brethren, Flamheart, and the Pirate Lord.

Rare has ruined the game, sad to see it. Flying keg men are everywhere, can’t run hourglass fights because of it. Adventure has nothing new in years, they’ve just mashed the PVE together in different ways like the FOF, the players are board and even the dedicated are leaving.

I do think that Le Chuck and Flameheart are working together but they're both probably planning on betraying the other

This game only have a consistent issue in my opinion: it's not single player in the way should also be (see Deep Rock Galactic) and there are no RPG elements but only aesthetics elements. If Rare could add that (imagine your character with specific skills, your equipment along and your hull too) it would be the best sandbox adventure ever made, with or without friends. It could be also a positive response to all the rants about bad players around (they always will be, in any game) but preventing them to force their disturbance in the middle of a quest, it's vital. PS It's also time to be REALLY fed up with Xbox Live, PSN or similar stuff required to play.

Id say do what Deep Rock Galactic does. They have seasons, but they always last however long it takes the devs to make the next season of content. Keeps Big daddy microsoft happy and they olayer base not annoyed with a false timer

I know it’s hard as gamers to find a happy balance between we want our content and being angry when developers release things too fast before they’re done or properly working. But I think rare sees the predicament they’re facing. If they don’t deliver on the next season it’s not going to do the game any favors. So them making the decision to delay it to me seems like they’re not going to just release something for the sake of releasing it.

I did like season 8 but it was pvp so I didn’t love it. Season 9 was a quality of life update which wasn’t enough. For me 2021 was the best year for sea of thieves and 2023 has been such a underwhelming year for sea of thieves.

If season 10 flops the game will to rare must really suck at coding or need new employees or both

Just go back to the monthly update layout. Then a bad update will only be for a month and good ones will come often. Season pass rewards have been a joke.(the paid rewards the free stuff is good)
