The Focus 12 is a meditation technique, something that John Scott created. It has helped many of his students with concentration, an important tool to help them go into meditation.

How beautifully spoken John is! I would like to listen to him repeating poems, sutras or chants. Or record some guided meditations?

2:58, but in Hatha Yoga Pradipika, 12 pratyaharas make 1 dharana, 12 dharanas make 1 dhyana, 12 dhyanas make 1 samadhi. So it's not directly 12 breathes (pranayama I guess) that gives 1 dharana, is it ? I'm confused...

Thank you so much for sharing!!! My notebook has filled with the interviews with John ^__^. I'm always looking forward to John's interviews and sequences! I do have a question: in pranayama I learned to start with the inhale. Why does John start the Focus 12 with the exhale? The Vedic counting would also work with the inhale, no?

Thanks for your answer. So actually you need to go from microcosm to macrocosm again to end on the exhale. I see. I was confused because in the Pranayama techniques I have learnt so far, you always start with the inhale. That is why I was wondering... I have to say that I really love John's way of explaining and the images he uses to illustrate!

The reason why we start counting with an exhale, as he explained to me a couple of months ago during a workshop, is the fact that we are all born on an exhale. Only when we are born to the world do we inhale our first breath. In this way we act a bit like babies, with no inhibitions or previous habits. During that workshop he used to refer to babies all the time, we should be like babies in our mindset, simple and pure, we should come back to the times when we were babies so that we can remind ourselves how to move the most naturally, as babies are not taught any moves, they are born with a set of moves to explore and we should be like them in this respect - explore, not demand.

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. It helped me a lot to understand the concept. I heard John would publish something about the 'Baby Sequence'. Did he say anything about it during your workshop?

so you're supposed to do 6 inhale and 6 exhale for 12 times and then do that for 9 times? for 108 breaths total?
@kasiadabrowska73

actually, no. on 'one - ekam' you inhale, on exhale you move the tip of your finger to '2'. your second inhale is on '2', you exhale for 'two - dvi' and move your finger to '3'. so you do 12 inhales and 12 exhales, with the preparing one it's 13. when you're finished you count out of the spiral. When it comes to 108 breaths total, he spoke about 12x12=144. this is the Vedic way of counting Dharana and Dhyana states.

Fibonacci is an Italian name pronounced fi-bo-na-chi, not fi-bo-na-ki. Besides, where did he get the Vedic formula of 12 and 144 seconds?
