Don’t put super power tag on every thing, we are still starting out. Let’s just keep our head down and work, recently I have been observing lot of chest pumping in India by excessively celebrating and declaring victory over everything. I really like the work current government is doing on infrastructure development, financial management and monetary policy as well, but this master stroke mentality and marketing every small achievement will be counter productive, we have still long way to go and in future there might not be any superpowers just multiple power centers. The era of super powers is coming to an end, we should be able to improve our living standards drastically, that should be the only goal.

28nm is a good siz to start with. We need to now focus on smaller size chips.

We need more cutting-edge chip fab units with lesser size chips and good quality. Now we can make and design our own hardware of electronics.✌️👍

We should keep giving incentives enen after we have the fabs. Coz USA is still giving incentives , even after developing the tech.

okers paradise, IC design is not a joke, but I hope we are not trying to burn tax payers money in the name of digital Indian and some opportunists take advantage of this PLI scheme, I will be more than happy that India succeeds in this, but I am dam sure that all the VLSI community is mum on this with wait and watch approach, with my life served for VLSI i really doubt this is going to succeed.

More than 25% of all chip design in the world (for Intel, Qualcomm etc.) is already done by Indians. I think there's a reasonably good chance for success.

⁠@@kjohn5224 yes Indian but not in India or done by Indian companies. Kindly see the difference, they were Indians but most of them are citizens or permanent residents of other countries now. But yeah I agree that we have to start somewhere than sitting and importing. It will be long journey, but we will learn and grow by doing things rather than saying it is impossible. It is a good start.

Of course, private participation is needed to generate IP and grow proper business, government is doing the nurturing job now. We need more students and entrepreneurs in VLSI. Maybe people like you who work in this sector will make India the next semiconductor superpower. We cannot depend on foreign companies for long
