There's a lull right now as older Korean's retire and fewer Korean's are rushing to the LPGA. BUT The next wave of Korean women golfers are good. American's have no clue what is about to hit them. American media purposefully ignore foreigners on the LPGA tour as much as possible. You need to search and begin watching the Korean tour and Japanese tour.

Not anymore. No new Korean stars have been emerging for last 3 years, they have hard time keeping up pace with average driver distance as LPGA average driver distance has been increasing in a scale. Their own KLPGA tour has been providing those ladies enough purse so it would be also a better choice to compete each other at KLPGA for them. They have Asian Americans who has been in scene for juniors which have been enriching the US sports business though.

You mean foreign countries providing funding to kids to compete against zero funding US kids.... Not fair at all... Remember when Americans used to love the story of the grocery store clerk who made it to the MLB.... You notice that NEVER happens anymore... Do you ever wonder why? Here is the simple rub, these other countries see industry in the US with high value in athletics, but US rich folks see it as a scam to rip off middle class parents for investment funding. Both the parents and the zero funding from the state is competing in the US with foreign government programs which provide cradle to pro circuit funding and lifestyle for skilled kids. No investment in the US means US kids always lose in numbers to foreignors for every us thing of value.

Alison and Megan are the few examples of successful Asian-American LPGA golfers who come from a not so well off financial background. It's a pay to succeed model now. Those families who can afford top-notch golf instructors, not just swing but also a putting/short game and mental coach and even fitness trainer will have a huge advantage. A typical AJGA 2-day tournament usually cost a family over $1000 in tournament/hotel fees, practice round, food, gas.

As an Asian myself, my parents never 'pushed' me into sports. They didn't 'go all in'. Sports was a way to get exercise, to have fun after school, a way to make friends, a way to learn how to play with others as a team. Never in a million years did they ever think, "If I go all in and practice 24/7 so my son could be pro one day". Never. They pushed one thing and one thing only- Education. That's it. Great for these young girls that made it. But they are the exception and not the rule.

The US women's golf situation is really bad. Their players aren't developing fast enough. Top Korean talent turn pro at 18. Most of the top talent are expected to go to college. Waste of time. College programs would rather have 6 top foreigners than 3 lack luster Americans on their team.

Their tiny frames, small chests, and low body fat gives them an excellent power-to-weight ratio. They'd make lousy football players though...

What’s funny is they act like they were kept out of golf or discriminated against. It is not shocking that they are good. They were welcomed to our country with open arms and given a great opportunity to be free and put their talents to work. Had they come as black people before the civil rights movement, then we would have a story.

Didn't come across like that to me at all. There was no mention of discrimination. It's pretty obvious professional golf was only filled with well to do white folks and now it's becoming more diversified. It looks more to me like you're projecting your politics onto this.

@@RoughNeckDelta The title is, “Asian American athletes dominate women’s golf.” What if the title was, “White American men dominate business”? Or, “Black American men dominate basketball”? Or, “Dominican American Men Dominate baseball?” It seems like you are just dividing people by “race” to make a story. Who cares? Why couldn’t we focus on a title like, “two great women from humble beginnings, are dominating women’s golf?” Nothing ever stopped Asian people from playing golf in their home country. Nothing stopped them from playing here in the United States. Why is this a news worthy story? Doesn’t seem like a healthy, non-racist country, would care who did what in a free society and only focus on “race”. How much in common does a person from Laos 🇱🇦 and a person from South Korea 🇰🇷 really have in common other than being classified into a made up racist group. My political agenda is for the United States 🇺🇸 to welcome all people and stop hyper focusing on “race”, which is a made up social construct really only talked about in formerly racist countries like the United States and South Africa. To me, the story is two people from humble beginnings dominate a game made for rich people. It is hard for a poor white man to “dominate” golf without money for coaches and green fees. So, why focus on them being Asian?

oh there used to be a lot of racism when koreans first started playing in the lpga, i'm sure there was plenty before. if you grow up as a minority, especially asian, discrimination is common enough you anticipate and expect it, it's pretty normal so you learn to deal with it to a degree too, but it's never pleasant

Professional women's golf is boring and no fun. There are no interesting personalities. All are robot like, had parents pushing them hard and never show any real emotion. Don't believe me? Go to LPGA tour stop, then a PGA tournament to see the huge difference. After going to a few women's tournaments, where I felt like I was a roaring drunk at church, ( no, I did not drink anything....)I decided to stick with men's tournaments. Much more jovial banter with fellow fans, good vibes, fun and lively. You almost feel the expensive costs to attend are worth your entertainment money.
