“The unfairness delivers extra emotional damage. Very effective.” Truer words have never been spoken…regarding parenting advice to guarantee the motivational response you want to see in your child. Quick, effective, guaranteed results, providing additional bonus time for the parent to be more productive, or if the parent is not Asian, to be used as “me time”. This is GOLD.

The 99% is so accurate. When I was in elementary school, the highest you can get on the citywide exam is 99%, meaning you scored in the top 1% (higher than 99%) of the students. That was really something to try to explain to my parents.

Growing up I had a lot of Asian friends and we would always joke about how strict our parents were(I’m black) but I always felt I had it a bit easier because of the grades part. My dad was cool with me getting a B. I’ll also never forget the day my mom made me pick out the stick to get whipped, real life emotional damage.

Yes. The problem with these punishments is that they are always in the base of humiliation. Punishment should be dealing with the real consequences of the actions... Like facing the trouble you caused by fixing it or the people you pranked, etc.
@1014p

Humiliation by being spanked? No thats literal consequence. Its up to the kid if they want to feel humiliated. Generally is a state of fear up until kid just stops caring.

@tiaprocelius2226
@tiaprocelius2226 Жыл бұрын
@@1014p I don't understand what you mean. Spanking is not right. It damages your self-esteem, therefore the way you interact in society and teaches you to solve things with violence. REAL CONSEQUENCES would be: not eating because you didn't cook your food; going home walking because you made your dad wait for you too long at the school door; having to apologize to strangers you hurt/pranked. That's what I mean with punishments that deal directly with the consequences of a mistake.

Same. I'm Russian and we have a strict culture of family and obedience, just like in other places in Asia. We're also pressured like crazy when it comes to our education performance, since conditions in Russia aren't the best and only the best worker ants can have a chance at decent life. All of those combined are a great recipe for abuse under the guise of "discipline". It may not be as evident as in China and Japan with their productivity cult, for example, but it still exists.

Bruh as a black kid, the worst thing that I've ever had to do is choose my own weapon. It's either the metal spoon, the wooden spoon, the belt, the stick, the slipper, the boot or the bare hand.
