Happy to see Matt emphasize the stabilizing effect of the wide base, and "non-narrowed midfoot"(3:28). Another reviewer applied the Hoka lingo of "flat-waisted geometry" to the new K30. I get excited when Asics or NewBalance use this general 'wide platform' approach, because those 2 brands actually know how to make uppers which don't insult wider (flattened) feet. I feel like a good portion of the success of the 'NB More v3' was because they didn't fear utilizing a very wide footprint. Manufacturers love to save weight, and material costs, by always cutting soles narrower. Less risk of ever getting attacked for making heavy/bulky/clunky product. But many users just suffer needlessly from the resulting ridiculously narrowed crap.

Yeah that's music to my ears. Having flat-ish arches myself, stability shoes with narrow midfoots tend to give my hot spots and blisters on my instep since I'm basically collapsing onto the edge of the sidewall.

I've owned the 30 for about nearly half a week I can say it's good! Carried me through XC practice this whole week. Edit 10/25/23: Still actively using it due to an injury so I haven't been running for about a month however the shoes are really good still and I'm slowly getting into therapy

When explaining the 4D Guidance System in an official Asics video, they mentioned that they focused on the changing posture from heel to midfoot with time. You would probably understand better than me, Matt, so these are just keywords. I don't know if you feel changing behaviour with time (the 4th dimension) :)

I’m guessing ASICS sent you that pair. Good deal. Couldn’t agree more. That was one of best reviews I’ve seen. I do wish ASICS had done an 8mm drop. I think it would’ve been more stable. I’d also say if someone wants a more traditional stability shoe similar to the previous version 29, I’d recommend the GT-2000.

I’m so happy you said this. So I had the kayano 30’s, but for whatever reason no matter the size it enhanced my shin splints (which I know, is a whole issue of its own)…however I then donated the kayano 30’s and got me the kayano 29’s. No issues at all, it also feels more snug in a nice way and I feel like I can run faster with ease. And I literally just got me the gt 2000’s this morning, so the kayano 29’s and gt 2000’s are my shoes for this years marathon race.

I recently bought Kayano 29 and noticed that I've pain around the inner part of my right foot near the tongue. Apparently, per ASIC PH Product lead, I'm not used to the medial post of the 29. I guess my foot doesn't need that much of stability

Thanks for the awesome video content. I prefer traditional stability running shoes due to over pronation (Medial post etc..) Kayano 29 was my favorite shoe for this but the Kayanos have changed a lot. In the current market which is the closest shoe to the Kayano 29? (NB 860 V12, Gt 2000 12 perhaps?)

I have a question for anyone who's watching this and have the knowledge. I'm a big guy (108 kilos as I write this) and right into a diet and also suffering from plantar fasciitis so I want something quite stable and comfortable as I'm trying walking for around 6-7 km daily. I've seen that the 29's are priced at around 105 euros here in Greece and the 30's for about 140. For my case if I get the more expensive 30's will I see a much better result or will I be OK if I go with the 29's? Thanks in advance.

I trained for and ran my first marathon in the Kayano 28, a shoe I got coming off an injury and physical therapy that really seemed to be the final piece of the recovery puzzle. The foam was probably shot by race day and some of the outsole rubber in the heel came off both shoes during the race, but I adored that shoe and the upper in particular. I've not been super in love with the Kayano 29 since I picked up a pair in the fall after the marathon, but I've come to terms with it after buying the Saucony Tempus for faster days. Annoyingly, the outsole rubber on the Kayano 29 started separating after probably 200-250 miles, so I'm hoping they'll last to July when we can actually buy the 30s because these seem to be great.

I really like the NB Vongo V4 but those shoes are laterally biased, meaning if I don't pay attention they'll make me twist my ankle (and it's happened while walking in them) but I love how they feel while running. I also liked the Arahi 3 and 4 a lot but a tad too narrow in the midfoot for my taste. Are these any better? I've recently ran in Topo Ultrafly 3 and loved those.
@DoctorsofRunning

Supposedly the vongo 6 is best at what you are looking for. We haven’t tested it yet but seen photos. The Kayano 30 is better but is not perfect with this. There is still some lateral bias, but it is far less thanks to the lateral sole flare and lateral side walls. -Matt

It seems the Gel-Kayano 30 is more nimble then the Gel-Nimbus 25 ! And for myself, it will be much better since I will not overpronate when running in medium to higher speed as it happens to me when running with the Nimbus 25. By the way I never had stability problems with any Gel-Nimbus model until the 25th arrived. Just a large base is not enough to give stability .... The Gel-Kayano 30 will be the best Asics shoes to me now !

@@joecool9739 I understand and respect that some have associated the visible gel with the brand image. The visible gel was used in the top models all of which I have worn for over a decade too and I assume it gave a ''premium look'' to the brand/model image we wore and psycholocally it may have provided certain benefits. But now seeing and using models without any visible gels, I think the change is for better. But these are individual matters and I respect your liking. I for one love the way the Asics brand lines look on a shoe, the way it starts from the back of the foot and goes down the side to the sole. Some previous Asics models had the line abrubtly cut off before the sole, and didn't like them. So I can understand how you like the gel too. : ))

I think this channel has a conflict of interest with this brand. DISAPPOINTED with the Asics Gel Kayano 30 I've been a loyal user of Asics Gel Kayano series for years, but my recent experience with the Gel Kayano 30 left me utterly disappointed. On the day I received the product, I embarked on a 10km run and noticed severe blistering on the tips of my middle toes and the inner side of my heel. I decided to give it another shot after a 5-day break once my feet healed, but unfortunately, the same issue persisted during another 10km run. It's quite a letdown especially considering the hefty price tag of 5499 TL attached to this pair, which is supposed to represent its high standards. I genuinely hope Asics takes a hard look at customer feedback and prioritizes satisfaction to match the high financial expectation set by their pricing. The comfort and stability that were the hallmark of the previous models seem to be lacking in this latest iteration.
