I recently got the ASICS Superblast. It is a very impressive shoe. High stack but also low weight. A very versatile shoe that I keep choosing for all types of runs. Watch the review to see my full first impressions and how I think it compares to the Prime X Strung.

Thanks. I'm up to 49 miles in this shoe now. It is still impressing me with how versatile it is. Feels good at easy paces, daily runs and can also handle long runs and tempo runs. It's more comfortable and lighter than a lot of my daily shoes. I see this one getting a lot of my miles in the coming months.

Most of my reviews will end up being later than the channels that get sent shoes to review. I buy all of my own shoes, so I’ll often scout out what I’m interested in and then try to find a good deal. It’s tough to buy a bunch of shoes at full price. This shoe would fall into the “super trainer” category. It definitely delivers on that name. ASICS is still coming out with new colorways for this and I haven’t really seen it on sale. I was able to get 30% off on ASICS website as a first responder. So that really helped. I think I may use the shoe in a 10 mile race that I have next weekend I want to see how it does when I’m trying to run harder for a longer distance.

Superblast is an excellent, super versatile do it all shoe. I was able to get a 12 in this shoe when I usually need a 12.5 in ASICS. I definitely find that it runs a little long as well.

Great review. I love the cushion and softness of the prime x strung, but if I run in it too much my shins start to ache from the instability/outward collapse of the roll through . I have to really focus on mid to forefoot strike, which I do less of at easy paces. I just ran 14 miles in the Novablast 1 and I like the cushion under heel and ground contact of the forefoot. In the Novablast 3 it was firm up front but it is the foam and not the ground . Do you feel the foam is firm in the superblast and softens or is nice right out of the box ?
@runwithsean
@runwithsean 6 ай бұрын
I agree on the Prime X Strung. It’s a thin and dainty heel on such a massive shoe. I know that you loved the Metaspeed Sky and tried to take it to 1,000,000 miles. The FF Turbo foam in the Superblast is firm, like in that shoe, but the Blast + helps it to still be bouncy right out of the box. I’ve heard that it does soften up and get more bouncy after 50 miles. I’m at 32 in that shoe right now. So we’ll see how it feels after 50. But I really like it right out of the box and if it’s only going to get better with some more use, I’m looking forward to that. I’ll be using that shoe a lot in the coming weeks. So I’ll probably get it over 50 miles pretty quick.

@@runwithsean For a marathoner, who has to work hard, running long distances every week, this shoe is a winner. It goes very well, maybe perfectly, in tempo, easy, fast and long workouts. Much better than PrimeX, SC trainer, Novablast, Invincible and others

hey there sean, i also got the superblast and find it versatile and speedy but i didn't expect you'd prefer superblast over primeX given that lightstrikePro is resilient. Im thinking of getting the strung2s because the superblasts leave me sore and harder to recover, do you think it's a mistake to get primeX2s? I'm a forefoot striker and love the later stage of the superblasts, its not like i dont enjoy them but its tough on the body sometimes
@runwithsean
@runwithsean 2 ай бұрын
Interesting that the Superblast leaves you feeling sore. FF Turbo is firmer than LightStrike Pro. But I don’t have that issue with the shoe. That might have something to do with my size. I’m 6’4” 230 pounds. So the bit firmer foam is more supportive to me. I prefer the more stable platform of the Superblast over the PXS. I know that a lot of people who loved the first PXS do not like the second version. I personally would not go for the PXS 2. Maybe watch some other reviews of that shoe to see if you think it will work for you. I’m actually really looking forward to the Superblast 2. That will have ASICS new FF Turbo + foam in it. That foam is softer, lighter and bouncier than the regular FF Turbo. I have experienced that foam in the new Edge Paris and think it may be one of the best foams on the market. I’ll definitely be picking up the Superblast 2 when that comes out. It looks like it will have the same geometry as the 1, but should be bouncier and more forgiving. That might be the way to go for you as well. It may come out this summer or fall. Not exactly sure if the true release date.

Its about dang time Sean 🤣🤣. Just wait until you get past 50 miles or so and they will get even better. Hope you enjoy them. I have that same colorway sitting on the shelf waiting for my first pait to die off. They are at 380 and still feel great. Just starting to loose a tiny bit of bounce.

Thanks for the recommendation. Really liking these so far. I’m very impressed with the ride of the shoe and how light it is for that amount of stack. It’s definitely the best of the “super trainers” that I’ve tried. Will definitely be reaching for this shoe a lot going forward. When I bought them, that was the only colorway available in my size. I do like it though. Since the upper is so lightly colored, you can’t really see the ASICS logo. So they are kind of a ghost shoe. I have a 10 mile race next weekend. I’m debating whether I give these a shot for the race or go back to the Endorphin Elite. Amazingly, that shoe is only 1 Oz lighter than the Superblast with about 6 mm less of stack height.

@@runwithsean best of luck, I've taken them up to 20 milers with marathon pacing mixed in and they did really well. And the one thing you mentioned in your video about how surprised you were to be able to hit fast paces with so much stack surprised me too. I honestly don't want to run in anything else anymore.

Superblast is pretty good up to marathon / half marathon pace. I can do the same marathon pace with novablast and it is cheaper. Prime X I can go faster in relatively straight line than superblast.
@runwithsean

I have the Novablast 1. Haven’t had the models after that one. I found that shoe very bouncy but not as stable as the Superblast. It’s also a heavier shoe. I really liked that one for daily miles but I do better with a firmer midsole when trying to run fast. So the Superblast has a really nice balance for me with that dual density midsole. I find the Prime X unstable and the strung upper has too much volume for me. I prefer the fit of the Superblast. I feel a little bit like a giraffe running in the Prime X. It’s a bit awkward for me to turn up the pace in. I think that I feel more confident running fast in the Superblast because of the increased stability and width in the heel. I also get more of a bouncy sensation from the Superblast where the roll and toe off are more prevalent in the Prime X. $300 for the Prime X is nuts. $200 for the Superblast is also very high for a non-plated shoe that is not designed for racing. $140 is a fair price for the Novablast. And that shoe gives you a lot of bang for the buck. Definitely the best value of those three at full price. At full price people should just buy the Novablast and call it a day. However, I was able to get the Prime X for $150, the Superblast for $140 and I think that I paid full price for the Novablast when I got those. So they were basically all the same price. At the same price I’d rank them 1 Superblast, 2 Novablast, 3 Prime X Strung.

@@runwithsean those superblast and primeX deal you got is a steal! Amazing you can get those prices that low. I agree superblast is more stable than primeX but PrimeX outsole is crazy. At 300km, I have not made a dent on it. Easy hit 900-1000km for me. I am not sure on the durability of the Superblast considering the low thickness. I know the AHAR+ is the best one since it is same as novablast2, which gave up, not because I had reached 950km but because I had novablast3tr. Great review, keep it up.

If I would like just walking, Do you recommend Superblast or not? Every day I wear Nike pegasus39
@runwithsean
@runwithsean 6 ай бұрын
Would the Superblast be a comfortable shoe to walk in? 100% yes. Would I spend $200 on a super trainer just to walk in it? I would not. I think that this shoe is optimized to absorb a lot of miles and to be able to go fast while doing so. However, say someone was on their feet all day walking around for their job. Then I might consider paying the $200 for this shoe. It’s going to be very durable. It’s comfortable and it’s a light shoe to be carrying around with you all day. If you are looking for comfort, I’d check out the ASICS Nimbus 25. That is currently on sale from $160 down to $129. I haven’t used that shoe myself yet. But know that it is super comfortable, would be less aggressive than the Superblast, and is about half the price.

No way as good as my prime x strung v1, super blast decent all rounder but strung v1 another level of bounce,every run feels easy in them, but the strung only good if you are solid fore foot striker,super blast very stable.

People’s opinions about shoes will often differ. Especially depending on the paces that they run, their size and foot strike. I find that the Prime X Strung had too much volume in the upper for me. I need to wear a thicker sock. I also like how your heel kind of sits into the Superblast like a bucket seat. You are kind of completely on top of all that foam in the PXS. I’m also 6’4” 230 pounds and do heel strike. So that thin heel in the Prime X is a problem for me. I still think that the PXS is a very good shoe. But the Superblast works better for me personally. And they are both too expensive. Haha.
