This myth has been buster several times over, most reputable piercers will tell you that this piercing doesn’t cure migraines, but if it works because of a placebo effect that’s great and valuable, too. I think it’s irresponsible to share fake news but the worst effect of this is that people are getting their ears pierced so have at it. ;-)
@CaitRoufa
@CaitRoufa 3 жыл бұрын
This is what my neurologist said about this type of piercing. The relief spoken about in the paper only lasted a few months for the participants, indicative of a placebo effect. Said if you like the style of it and maybe get a little placebo effect for a few months, then go for it. But caveat, they take a LONG time to heal and can be very tender and painful while doing so (which can trigger migraines if you're getting lots of inflammation or tensing up). I got mine years ago, and it's cute, but did absolutely nothing for my migraine condition and even made it worse for about the first 6 weeks with the pain of healing. It took about 9 or 10 months for mine to heal fully too. Another caveat is that those with chronic migraine with aura may have to get brain MRI's at some point in their lives... gotta make sure the metal they put in is good quality titanium or gold or you'll have to have your piercings removed by a piercer before you do an MRI.

Ya'll first rule of piercing club: do not touch a new and healing piercing(s). Second rule: do not get more than 2 piercings in a session. The body will possibly reject, be more susceptible to infection, and countless other issues. Third rule: Research your piercer and ask them tons of questions before you allow yourself to be pierced by them. Ask about appropriate first jewellery, metal types/classes, room for swelling, after care, if any of the metal has been ionized by the modifier, so on an so forth. There were several errors within this video that others have pointed out as well. Please take more can in body mods and with media production that coincides with them. Also, someone call Roly to see the intro.

Yeeeeah, he looked cool and he said cool thinks but then he broke so many basic rules... 1. Don't do more than 3 piercings in one area in one session - body won't have the strenght to heal 2. If you do few piercings in one area, don't do them close to each other - there have to be room for swelling 3. Don't put the 'go to' earing in for the healing proces - you have to use earing that is longer (to have a room for swelling), wider (when you put it out the hole can shrink and after using a wider piercing you'll still have room there), straight (loops make healing more difficult) 4. Educate your clients - we didn't see it in the video but if they are constantly touching their piercing, let down their hair and think that the ear is healed after 6 weeks, than I'm pretty sure that he hasn't tell them how to take care of the area. I'm sorry, I just had to get it out there. Don't let people pierce you're skin just because they look cool and have a popular instagram profile :/

It’s true different strokes for different folks, so here’s my “stroke”. I got the actual daith piercing in my left ear in April 2019. I picked the left because I don’t usually sleep on the left side. Of course as soon I got the piercing, that changed. Anyway, it took 9 months to heal, just like I was told it would. I deserved a push present when it was all over. and while I still have up to 15 migraines a month (I have to keep count), the frequency and intensity of them on the left side of my head has virtually disappeared. I can get rid of a migraine on the left side with OTC medicine in 15-30 minutes vs prescription medicine. Once again, there are times, I need to take prescription meds because the migraine is beast regardless of a whole in my head. So, if you’re thinking of getting one for migraine relief, just know: takes a long time to heal, but maybe really worth it.

I got a daith piercing almost 2 years ago, for me it did help my headaches, it did not get rid of them, but it has helped reduce them. The piercing itself was not bad but the healing process was so long, it took months and months before I could even sleep on it and to this day when I start to get a bit sick or run down, it gets sore and sometimes infected. I only got my left daith done, I was going to go back and get the right side done after the left had healed but knowing that there is a massively long healing process I’m in no rush to get the other side done.

Reading your comet it gives me the impression that you misinterpreted the use of the term "aura". So just in case: MIGRAINE: headache that can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head. It's often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. MIGRAINE WITH AURA: (also called classic migraine) is a recurring headache that strikes after or at the same time as sensory disturbances called aura. These disturbances can include flashes of light, blind spots, and other vision changes or tingling in your hand or face.

I got my daith pierced a few years ago, because I thought it looked cool, not for migraines. I didn't even know about the migraine thing till my piercer asked if that was why I was doing it. I'm not prone to migraines, so I can't say that the piercing helped with anything, but I did get a huge headrush when the needle went in.

Fun fact: migraine can be caused by trigger points situated on the neck and some back muscles. To put it simply, trigger points are tangled muscles fibres that give pain sensation while being pressed. Pain sometimes appears far away from trigger point itself. So if you struggle with migraines, contact PT. They can help

I used to get migraines and they were a nightmare. Fortunately when I radically changed my diet for CFS they went away completely. They’d been getting better but I noticed after awhile that I hadn’t even had a bad headache in awhile, so I’m really grateful. But I know they could come back so I’m storing this info away. (Also just FYI a lot of women get headaches and women tend to not get enough magnesium so a good mag supplement may help you. But it has to be a type of mag that easily absorbed. Magnesium had to be chelated and the most common chelation is with oxygen, magnesium oxide. But the molecules are to big for proper absorption. Apparently different chelations can help with diff issues but I’m not super informed about that. But it’s easy enough to google.) I used to be crazy skeptical about any chi manipulation and while I’m not sure how it works I’ve found acupuncture and acupressure can actually work. I don’t understand why but it’s crazy how in some circumstances it does work.

If you’re not ready for the commitment of a piercing, I suggest seeing an acupuncturist for ear seeds. I get them for low back pain, (temporary, mild relief) migraines, (nearly immediate relief for that headache, but doesn’t prevent one) and teeth pain (immediate, complete relief. Took my tooth and jaw pain from a 7 to a zero. I have residual pain and inflammation from some dental work a few weeks ago). I have several autoimmune diseases, and acupuncture is a lifesaver. Also, if you can tolerate the medication, TOPIMAX will really cut the amount of migraine headaches you get.

I have had hemiplegic migraines for as long as I can remember. If you don’t know what that is, it’s like having a miniature stroke. Every time I have one I freak out cause I lose feeling on the entire right side of my body. Although I haven’t had one of my migraines in a few years, I sometimes wake up feeling like I’ve had one, almost like I had one when I was asleep. I also got the piercing to possibly stop this and haven’t had one since! Highly recommend!!

This was fun! Just some knowledge: Chronic migraines can be due to excessive electronic screen usage, dehydration, or even vitamin deficiencies! You could even need glasses because your vision is strained!! I’ve also worked in hospitals & many people came in with chronic migraines & ended up having tumors so I recommend going to your doctor regularly & making sure you don’t have any small tumors growing that you don’t even know about. So before you just up and get a piercing try to go outside in the sun, try to eat healthy & drink lots of water, try to check your blood levels as well as possibly get a vision test & a head scan (severe cases because head scans are expensive). Hope you feel better! ❤️

When I was 17, I was tossing up between getting a tragus or getting a daith. Whilst doing my research of the two, I happened to find out that daith was said to help with migraines. At that time, I had migraines (not super terrible, but definitely uncomfortable, behind the eye migraines), and whilst there was no scientific proof, I decided to go with it regardless. Anyway, it’s been about 3.5 years since I got it, and I have to say, I don’t really get migraines anymore, probably like twice a year now. Can I say it’s absolutely due to the piercing? No definitely not. Correlation does not equal causation... There are other factors that have changed in that time, so it could be due to that. However, since I got it, my migraines are better/ non existent. I think if you’re thinking about it, just do it. If it helps great, if it doesn’t, you have a cool piercing. It’s honestly a win win🤷‍♂️

I have had the opposite reaction. I suffered for years with horrible migraine headaches that would leave me bed ridden and non-functional. No medications worked. Someone told me it was due to my ear piercings, which I did not believe. Out of desperation I took my piercings out to test the theory. The headaches disappeared for over a year. Me, being the doubter that I am, put my piercings back in. Within a couple days I had the most horrible migraine. Needless to say, as much as I love the piercings, the jewelry is gone! And no more migraines!

I went from staying in bed in a dark room and constantly throwing up because of the pain to a completely different life. My right side is fine as well (right side rarely hurt and if I had a migraine it was never really bad). Placebo or not it helped me.
