So why is this video getting so many dislikes? He speaks his opinion based off of science, which corroborates with other sources of information i've read. Of course, if i had the choice, i would go grass fed, but conventional is not bad either.

true, but you didn't mention anything about potential links between antibiotic use in cattle and antibiotic resistance in humans, as well as the use of hormones in "conventional" beef

the cow has 3 stomachs built to digest grass, chewing cud is part of the process. Corn does not digest in a cow stomach like grass or legumes, I have heard that the stomach has to produce a different bacteria to digest corn, this bacteria has a direct link to e coli. Do not crucify me if I am wrong, just what I have read and heard.

I would also like to ask, does the same answer apply to chicken as it does to beef ie in terms of MPS free range chicken PRO is no different to standard chicken? Thanks

Awesome Video Dr.Mike! It really helps to have an unbiased view on nutritional topics like this. Nutritionally corn-fed and grass-fed beef are without a doubt very similar, but what about the health of the cow or animal itself? Do you think that consuming meat from animals that are raised in concentrated animal feeding operations can introduce harmful toxins into our body?

People should not hate on this guy because everything he says is absolutely correct. He even addresses the fact that some people may wish to purchase grass fed and finished beef because of the morality issue which I agree with. What he doesn't mention is that studies regarding short and long term effects of antibiotics and growth hormones used in corn finished cattle are inconclusive as to what effect they have on humans. If you believe that cattle should be grass fed and finished like I do then you would likely believe that the fatty tissue in these factory farmed cattle easily absorbs these chemicals and is passed on to humans through consumption. Also I would add that grass finished beef is higher in vitamins and minerals whose positive health effects don't need convincing since they've been proven to be healthful. Yes it's true cla could be bogus and you could easily just eat fish or supplement omega 3's but for myself and many others it's a morality issue that can be solved.

Oh yeah and not to mention as others here have stated but grain finished factory farmed cattle actually help spread bacteria like ecoli and other deadly infections like staph.

What about using bones to make broth? Many advocates of bone broth make it seem like I'll be drinking poison if I don't use grass fed bones. I get a big bag of bones from my local Asian grocery and it's a great deal.

There are plenty of grass-fed beef farms in the US. A quick search in New Jersey alone rendered 6 farms in the northwest part of the state. I suspect there are more. Corn Finished Beef: Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acids are out of balance 1:20 ratio Grass Finished Beef has a 1:1.15 ratio This simple fact in conjunction with weather or not hormones are used is what makes beef either good or bad for you. Its not the beef its the process.

How funny, he calls corn feed "regular" which is anything but, cows were never meant to eat corn! if they were not slaughtered, they would die young because of so much starch! So backwards..lol

You're exactly right. I always tell folks that corn-red beef wasn't produced on an industrial scale until the 50's. Pasture based beef is the way its been raised since the dawn of time.

+Bold Branch Beef LLC YES! Agreed, we raise 100% grassfed cattle at Thousand Hills Cattle Company and there was a farm replying to a comment I made earlier in the thread trying to support the grain-feeding claim! If folks could read the history on how grain ever became a "thing" in the cattle's diets they would have the "lightbulb" moment! Glad to know you guys exist!

Grassfed/finished beef is a much better product in my opinion. The term "grassfed" is about much more than the final product. It's about the animals quality of life, It's about the animals nutrition, its about caring for the land, it's about paying farmers well to support their good stewardship. It's about cooking a meal knowing you as a consumer have made a better and healthier choice for your family and your environment. Dr. Mike please do more research so that you are able to present a more clear picture to viewers that trust your advice. Have you been on a farm? Have you been to a feed lot?

This guy is very misleading... 1. Yes, if you are having a steak just one time, either one of these two will be fine. but remember, you are going to consume meat for the rest of your life. Things start adding up quick. 2. There are plenty of local grass-fed Meat available. i.e. Wholefoods 3. Price difference between the GFM vs. CFM varies quite a bit between different cut of the meat, but the difference isn't going to be nearly as much as this guy suggests. Remember, Cows stomach was never meant for corn grain diet. They are designed for grass.

+franctoma cows are forager/scavengers they will eat almost anything put in front of them if fed grain (corn) along with good quality hay they will do better then on only Grass or just corn. you feed the bacteria in the gut not feed the cow.

They are both ANTIBIOTIC FREE same as you milk you drink it has to be in the USA. All of you that don't want antibiotics given to the cows/ farm animals you eat. think about this if you had a sick child would you give them antibiotic's to get them healthy again or would you just let you child DIE. it is the same thing when we treat a cow to save its life ( if we did not you guys would be jumping up and down at us saying animal cruelty). when antibiotics are used there is a withdraw period before the meat can be sold so there will be no trace of antibiotic's in the meat down to parts per billion. if you don't believe me just google your favorite drug used on cattle and look at the withdraw time on the label

Yikes. This is a misinformed explanation of grass-fed vs. corn-fed. It's discouraging to hear because it shows that the data you studied to earn your doctorate was simply someone's opinion (or agenda) from a textbook and not accurately reflecting the reality, history, and the physiological design of the cattle (cattle are ruminants which are built to only digest a variety of grasses due to their digestive enzymes and gut bacteria). From what you described, you ONLY saw conventional beef studies and not grass-fed studies. Dr. Mike, I encourage you to visit a CAFO (where they will actually allow you to see what they're feeding and "housing" the cattle). Then, go visit a 100% grass-fed cattle farm as well as where those cattle are processed. These two will have sharply different smells, looks, and a feel to it. At the end of the day, a piece of paper vs. seeing where your food comes from will be much more powerful. The impact nutritionally, is far greater than the data you've currently been exposed to. I used to think corn-fed beef was fine (besides that it didn't have much flavor…it was all I knew). I then started to research, experiment, and visit farms and found that in our own country, the USDA and FDA seem to have a different agenda going on. It's a fun little rabbit hole to start traveling down, but it's worth it. I feel much better on 100% grass-fed and know of countless folks who have experienced the same. In addition, grass-fed farms aren't linked into the tax-paying government subsidies which corn/grain-fed operation use to make their product appear cheaper due to government assistance (we're all paying for that "discount" rather than the real cost of the product).

+Becca Griffith you are wrong they digest Grasses better when feed corn. and a cow on corn only diet ( No hay or grass) is being fed a fiber source from the pellet mixed in the corn.
@BeccaGriffith
@BeccaGriffith 8 жыл бұрын
+kandylandfarms Nope, I'm not wrong. We've been raising 100% grass-fed cattle for a long time that have a far greater nutritional & flavor profile than grain-fed cattle. Fiber source doesn't need to come from grains such as corn when their getting it fully from the fiber in the grass. Our cattle have strong immune systems and have NEVER (you read that right) have had antibiotics BECAUSE we have nutrient-dense soil that produces nutrient-dense grasses. We work with the breeds that were traditionally grass-fed back before grains became a cultural norm in the 1900s. We're doing it; we're selling it; we're all loving it; and best of all...our cattle are healthy, happy, & that's being passed along to us!
@kandylandfarms9898
@kandylandfarms9898 8 жыл бұрын
+Becca Griffith corn is not a fibers source fiber would come from wheat Medlins soy hulls oat hulls and or oats cottonseed hulls that is your typical fiber source for a pellet cow has to have a protein source to digest fiber take a spaghetti strainer go get a fresh cow Patty take the spaghetti strainer and Cal Patty and wash cow patty through a strainer with water and if there's fiber grass still in it they're not digesting all that they need protein if not you're doing OK I went to Ohio State for Dairy Heard management

+kandylandfarms yes, I misread your previous corn statement and thought you were making a claim as that being one. Regardless, what we've got going on is working marvelously for us and for our cattle. And everyone else who has watched this video and commented on it agrees that pasturing and a grass-fed diet is optimal. Cheers.
