I love this. I'm blown away by how wonderful God is for using these precious Q&A's just as powerfully as the sermons to teach me, correct, instruct me, equipping me in the Christian life for evangelism but just further ingraining the understanding of the doctrines of grace what a wonderful God is our God. Bless you all continually. Thanks Steve Lawson for answering these questions so clearly, concisely and scripturally.

Thank you very much for this broadcast today, I found it encouraging and it came at a time when I needed a bit of a lift. I'm sure Dr. Lawson would never want to draw attention to himself, but I have to say I was tremendously impressed by his eloquence and the wisdom of the answers that he gave to the questions that were asked. Dr. Lawson's diligent study of the Scriptures is evidenced by a vast knowledge of the Bible and an ability to wield the sword of the Spirit (The Word of God) with precision. I realized today that I want to be more like Dr. Lawson and to follow his example. His humility is also refreshing and results in the listener's attention being directed to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Cross. Thank you, Dr. Lawson.

Paul said to be imitators of him, as he is of Christ. While we are not to put any man on a pedestal, and even Paul exhorted people to check out what he said, and not just accept it because he had said it, and why he was so pleased with the Bereans, who searched the scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Since Steven Lawson's life appears to imitate Paul's it would not be wrong to imitate his either, that you would also be able to say to others to imitate you. I remember as a young Christian, a man who had been in the Lord many years saying to me, "Don't do what I do, do what I say." Even only being a few weeks old in Christ, I thought this was a horrible thing to say, we should all be able to say to others, "imitate me, as I imitate Christ." I trust this will be true for you also. Carl, just journeying through.

Great stuff. On developing a better prayer life, Dr. Lawson mentioned praying scripture, and yes Psalms is more directed to God. I recall teaching a Sunday class where I used the prayers in Ephesians & Philippians to show two things-first, the type of things we could & should pray for one another, and the second is from where the 1st is drawn-that is, the type of heart we are to have for one another. Paul poignantly modeled that heart.

I really enjoyed this.I agreed with everything he said.However, I think when it comes to pastors using particular passages in the Bible to teach a specific topic I think that if you can trust that the pastor does proper exegesis of the scripture as a rule then doing that is OK.My church has some very good Bible teachers who teach the Bible studies separate from the church service.They definitely teach whole books of the Bible verse by verse.I attend a Bible church so they are definitely on board with sola scriptura and all the doctrines that derive from that.

Otherwise, I can think of no other as doctrinally sound, theologically orthodox, Christologically orientated, and Spiritually empowered to accept the mantle of Pastor Sproul. Having been Arminian almost all my life, I am still learning the Reformed teachings. Mr. Lawson said, toward the end, something that does NOT sound compatible with Reformed doctrine at all!: 60:08 He has ascended to the right hand of God the Father, and all authority in heaven and earth 60:14 have been given to the Lord Jesus Christ. And the day is coming when every knee will 60:19 bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. 60:25 (He says here:) So, everyone has a choice. (!!!) You either bow the knee right now in this life and confess 60:31 your sin and throw . . . . Is Steven Lawson Reformed? Am I misunderstanding something?

It's interesting to note that Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:18 " I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all; however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue." Paul claimed to speak in tongues more than all. Seems to be a pretty amazing gift to exercise! I do not understand how one can believe that speaking in tongues is not for today. The word of God is the truth and it never changes. The things that are written apply to us today. Speaking in tongues is nothing to be afraid of. It is an amazing gift The Holy Spirit gives us to edify our self. If we are edified, we will edify others.

@t w For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:2 NASB This verse says that no one understands. If it is a known language then why does no one understand? The apostles did speak in known languages at Pentecost, but this is a different way of praying in tongues that is between God and an individual. The only reason someone can deny it is because they don't believe what the scripture clearly says.

If you start with the premise that we all 100% deserve God's wrath, it actually works itself out the other way. (Skip, skip, hell...) I'm always reminded that the ones He "passes over" are the ones covered in the Lamb's blood. The natural human reaction to this is always to say, "Well that's not fair!" But in the words of RC Sproul, "You don't want fair. Fair would be sending you to hell, too"

20:46. I feel like I've been stuck in the middle on the subject on speaking in tongues. I know a person who is genuine to the heart and has a greater relationship with God than I do because of her intimacy with Him. She says she speaks in tongues. I used to believe the perspective of John MacArthur and Lawson but I'm toward the side of John Piper on this one based his explanation on Corinthians (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oOCZo9Z4mJO3ZnU.html). "If you remain in my words, ask whatever you wish..." We just have to abide in Him. Anyways, God doesn't withhold anything good from you so whether or not you have the gift of tongues, that does not mean you are lesser. God gave you what He thinks is best for you. All other gifts are of the Spirit, and if you have another gift besides tongues, you can use that with all strength to spread the gospel. On the other hand, the gift of prophecy is something I would believe have ended because we already have the Bible and is the word of God Himself. Beware of focusing on gifts so much that the "agape love" is missing. Also check yourself on WHY you want the tongues. Not just to follow a movement, or because your friend has it, but should be to edify the church (if it were interpreted) or more inwardly to edify the self. In the end, I do believe it is best to speak clearly in a manner everyone understands. Praise be to God, everyone!! You guys should watch MacArthur's Hope for the Saints video. It really encouraged me and I hope it does for you. What are your thoughts?

@ZoneFighter1 Healing the sick, speaking in tongues etc is as true today as it was when Jesus originally spoke the words below: Mark 16:15-18 15And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. 17These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” - Jesus ( The Son of God) John 14:12 12Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Speaking in tongues in 1 Cor 14:2: "For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for (no one understands), but in his spirit he speaks (mysteries.) We can see in the above verse that "no one understands" means that it is not a known ethnic language. Tongues is an excellent gift. The Holy Spirit wants to give it to you! We just need to ask and receive by faith. We are commanded in scripture to pursue love and desire the gifts! 1 Cor 14:1

@@chacabra The scripture reference from Mark 16 was ADDED. The earliest manuscripts do not have it. Paul was trying to say DO NOT speak in tongues UNLESS it is for building up OTHERS. He was saying it is not good if you speak in tongues only to God because GOD Doesn't NEED YOUR TONGUES. Paul goes on to explain that tongues is for a sign for UNBELIEVERS. When we mature and believe, tongues is useless. This is why Paul explains it is a sign for UNBELIEVERS and quotes from Isaiah 28:11-12, which believers will read and understand now the purpose for tongues. Paul never ever taught us to use a prayer language. If you love the Lord Jesus and His word, please go read all the context and see you were taught incorrectly. But we serve a merciful God who is willing to forgive us for misinterpreting Scripture and teaching others if we repent and ask for His forgiveness. He forgave me for just this thing. My caps were for emphasis only and I was not attempting to digitally shout at you.
@chacabra
@chacabra 4 жыл бұрын
@@joshuacavender1536 I appreciate your reply and respect you brother. I just read the scripture and believe what it says. Paul clearly said he spoke in tongues more than all. Was he still immature in the faith? Was he a strong believer? 1 Corinthians 14:2-5 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation. One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church. Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying. I agree, tongues is a sign for unbelievers and if it is exercised in a gathering, the person should pray for interpretation and speak in clear language or someone else should interpret it. It's not a matter of God "needing our tongues"..it's a matter of praying in the Spirit to edify ourselves or to edify the church. It can be used both ways: for the edifying of self and the edification of the church through interpretation. We can gather from the scripture above that speaking in tongues (language that no one understands) can be utilized as a way of praying to God for edifying ourselves. And it's a good thing if we are edified so that we can go and edify others.
@joshuacavender1536
@joshuacavender1536 4 жыл бұрын
@@chacabra brother you're still missing Paul's point. He speaks in tongues more than everyone else and also uses it for its proper purpose. The issue here isn't saying that tongues is not a real thing, it's that when we mature we don't compete with our gifts when those gifts are intended for ministry, and not intended to lift ourselves up to God. Don't get me wrong, I still believe that the gifts are possibly in operation today, though I haven't seen the actual gift in operation personally. But I believe God is capable and that these were real gifts and were practiced back then. The false practice of tongues is speaking in babble and everybody doing it at one time and no one knows what message is being spoken. If that is going on, it is Improper usage of the gift and therefore is not actually the gift. If it really were the gift, there would be an interpreter and it wouldn't just be in your mind. I would also like to add that we don't need to speak to God in tongues because we have whatever our native language is to speak to him in prayer with things that we can actually understand, using our spirit and our mind.

John 10 1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. The $64000 question is how do you enter in through the door? Most say it's man's decision, Dr. Lawson indicated it was God's decision but late in the discourse issued a alter call. Alter calls are misleading , alter calls are general calls that Christ issues to humanity and generally does not bear fruit where the effectual calling bears fruit. Decisional regeneration, sometimes referred to as decision theology, is the belief that a person must make a decision for Christ, consciously accepting Him as Savior, in order to be saved. According to decision theology, the new birth occurs when someone 1) hears the gospel, 2) is convicted of the truth of the gospel, 3) understands the need for salvation, and 4) chooses to accept Christ rather than reject Him. Often, the decision to accept Christ is marked by an action such as walking an aisle, praying a "sinner’s prayer," signing a decision card, or similar activity. Detractors of decision theology consider it a misleading and dangerous teaching because it gives man too much control over his salvation. Some see decisional regeneration (salvation depends on making a decision) akin to baptismal regeneration (salvation depends on being baptized) and other works-based systems. If salvation is by grace, then it is an internal work of the Holy Spirit, occurring at the time of His choosing. Your not entering through the door with decisional theology

The state has zero authority over the church? How about Christian woman who take their husbands to court? What authority do you have there?

never see only one verse in all the bible saying God is three DIFFERENT persons but they all believes in this? Jesus is the only one God the Father manifested in flesh.In fact we are born to become Christian or not being know by God since the beginning, we are DESTINES to eternal life in Christ alone.All is by Grace but now they are preaching REPENT.. for to be saves ???? This is another gospel another way.

What you are teaching is another gospel. The Bible says Mathew 7:13 enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many will enter through it. So no we are not all born to become Christian and we will not all be saved. Where did you get that idea? Also the trinity is in scripture and realized at the baptism of Jesus. As Jesus was getting baptized a voice from God the father came down from heaven saying this is my son who I’m well pleased and the spirit came down as a dove. Jesus prayed to God the father and after death sits at his right hand. Jesus wasn’t schizophrenic praying to himself and you cannot sit beside yourself, so they are two separate people yet the one being of God. Mark 1:15 Jesus tells us to repent and believe. There are 21 other verses that say we must repent. Google them or I can for you if you want.

ps=I never say all will be saves !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I say= We are born to be Christians OR NOT !!! Concerning the trinity it's there but it's NOT about being three different persons NEVER TEACH but God who is Spirit manifest Himself differently,Jesus was the Father MANIFESTED IN BODILY FORM BECAUSE there is only ONE GOD THE FATHER=." Isaiah 44:24 "Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, ""I AM"" the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens ""ALONE""; that spreadeth abroad the earth by ""MYSELF"" Malachi 2:10 "Have we not all ""ONE FATHER""? hath not ""ONE GOD"" created us?

stop presuming concerning the true God and read what is written and not what you presume.God never say He is three DIFFERENT BEINGS but always say He is ONE and ALONE and this is the God the Jews worship. Since when the word ALONE mean MANY ???
