Harley Quinn is an example of taking a simple Henchman and stretching their story out as thin as possible to the point where she is very unlikely to how she started. She is basically a female joker with a slightly better moral compass at this point.

Making Deckard a replicant opens up a myriad of plot holes. Plus, that takes away from the true focus of the first version, which was race, master and slave, and are replicants human enough to treat them as such?

I don't care what references there are that imply that Deckard was a replicant in Blade Runner, and I don't care that it adds many interesting wrinkles: the reality is that making him a replicant would be a STUPID plot point. He is WAY too physically and mentally weak - it would be clownish to go to the trouble of creating a fake human and imbue it with every weakness and none of the advantages replicants can have.

Michael Mann's The Keep (1983) was filmed in parts of Wales. I think most of the outside shots at the start are in Wales with many local residents posing as Romanian villagers during the arrival of the German troops.

all the stuff you mention at 53mins about Harley Quinn - when the writers really try and push the character at you.... it reminds me of that cringe scene in Coming to America where the lead singer of Sexual Chocolate stamps his feet petulantly at the lack of applause and shouts "sexual chocolate" really loudly at the crowd and they just simply do not care 😂

27:00 I would say that part of this is because the original 'syndication' format of television fell apart in the late-00s. Shows used to have to meet episode minimums to be sold to local affiliate and independent tv stations in the US, and this was a big source of revenue before the days of DVD season box sets. This meant that there sometimes had to be a bit of anthology padding. While not every episode was perfect, many of those shows in the 70s and 80s cultivated the writing talent that would go on to make better shows in the late 90s and 00s. By the late-00s, though, many shows were getting deals from cable networks and streaming before the first season even finished. The local syndication revenue was tiny by comparison and those 20+ episode seasons started to shrink. Scripts were directed from the top-down instead of allowing the writers to ply their talents at anthology episodes.

Just to be clear about the movie "Transformers". It was a Saturday morning cartoon,(or commercial), to market a pre-existing brand of children's toys. The Toy then the cartoon to a movie years later.

Yeah but the director Ridley Scott said that declared that definitely Deckard is definitely a replicant. It is in the documentaries.

Remember that half-Pakistani guy in Squid Game? He’s very inclusive and the audience mourns him when his character died. Hollywood is incapable of doing something like this.

Regarding composers, apart from the ones you mentioned, I personally like Ennio Morricone & Vangelis. Ennio's score for The Mission is awesome. And Vangelis Bladerunner is just amazing.

At about 30:00 you speak of why the shorter seasons, I personally prefer the longer seasons as there tended to be more character development and or exploring different ideas. Stargate is an excellent example.

@@jlev1028 couldn't be a replicant daughter because Jared Leto was still trying to make replicants that could give birth. So with that Deckard had to produce sperm and have sex with a human which replicants couldn't do.

I think he was supposed to be a replicant (hence the miracle birth) but they got too cute with it as they continued to not answer the question and the whole thing became a muddled mess.

Here's a Star Wars idea: Set the new story thousands of years into the future. The Republic is gone. The Sith and the Empire are gone. The Jedi are gone. A new enemy with Force abilities drawn from both the Dark and the Light have swept through the galaxy like the Mongul hordes and have destroyes all traces of civilization. (Maybe the Yuzhaan Vong?) Instead, they exist as a loose confederation of tribes, each one brutally and tyrannically governing a random area of space. Our protagonist - an orphan, a looter searching for valuables to sell in order to keep them and their fellow orphans alive - stumbles upon an old holocron containing an AI based on Master Luke Skywalker, who begins instructing them in the ways of the Force so they may gather a new group of heroes and help train them to stand against the new villains. That way, we have a new story to tell, it doesn't depend on the Skywalkers while still tying back to them in a way, and we can conveniently "forget about"/not say anything about the films that failed.

I don't know, I don't think I want my Star Wars to not contain the entire universe that made Star Wars interesting. Above concept sounds like a good movie, but not Star Wars. I'd much rather they cracked open some of the Old Republic stuff. The Revan stuff could be interesting - assuming they don't fuck it all up again.

@@Mazra42 Oh, it wouldn't not contain the Jedi or the Republic for long; the point of the story would be to take down those that destroyed civilization, then to slowly rebuild it later. I'd love to see an Old Republic film, but I wouldn't trust current year Disney not to screw up Revan. I'd wait for Bob Eiger to leave or get fired.
