About 50 or 60 years ago, when the first Tai Chi Chuan masters and teachers came to the West, they placed a lot of emphasis on the martial aspects of the art and its applications in self-defense. The workouts consisted mostly of pushing hands and very little Form. There was even little talk about theory, due to the difficulty with the new language, and with that the training was quite practical and depended a lot on the experience and understanding of the practitioners. Which in a way was interesting since practitioners could "feel" before they "understood". With the passage of time, today we see that more time is dedicated to the execution of the Form and very little is practiced in Tui Shou and even the applications. Doesn't this make Tai Chi Chuan seen as just another variation of Chi Kung and not the Martial Art that it actually is? And how to correct this distortion, if it must be corrected? Thanks again.
