In this excerpt from the September 2017 episode of Ask the Vet, Dr. Gray and SmartPaker Sarah discuss the old wives tail of whether or not you should rinse a horse after a workout. Dr. Gray also talks about the dangers of working horses in extreme heat and one specific method that was used to cool down the horses competing in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

I was always told to start with the legs and spray the veins and arteries first to cool them down faster!

Had an old trainer tell me NEVER ever rinse a hot horse except on their legs or they'll tie up. She wasn't even my trainer and I didn't ask her for advice. I HATE when old wives tails continue to spread and the people spreading them do no real research to see if it's true.

What would the general care be for working draft horses?

what about how often can you rinse a horse? if you ride say, medium to hard work daily, and they're sweaty after every ride; can you rinse a horse daily?
