2. My horse bites the fence and sucks in. 1) What is it called? 2) He is not gaining weight - is that because he does that? And 3) what can I do?
3. What months are the BEST to worm your horse, ponies, and donkeys?
4. What first aid should all horse owners know?
5. How do you know if your horse needs electrolytes and how much to give them?

I've heard from a few different sources that cribbing is actually the horse attempting to burp to release upper GI stress. I haven't yet been able to find the original study. This makes sense to me as most cribbers have digestive issues, like colic or poor overall condition, and if they are having a buildup of gas from an dietary imbalance they are going to try to find a way to relieve that pressure.

Ditto, about learning through experience with regards to first aid. I knew almost nothing when I bought my first horse in January, but since then, with the help of my awesome vet, farrier and barn friends, I have learned SO MUCH just from finding out what was wrong with my horse (as well as with other people's horses) and figuring out how to treat it. Cuts, hoof bruises, abscesses, wind puffs, puncture wounds, swelling, navicular, neurological disorders, tendon/ligament injury, to name a few. All this within a few months...!! I've learned what works best in terms of treatment, and types of therapy. I also have a good working knowledge of horse anatomy now. I'm still learning too! As a pre-vet student, I appreciate the opportunity to learn. Horses have an amazing power to heal themselves, but I still worry about my "baby" so much that it prompts all this research I do.

I have a good one for you! My 12 year old Appendix Paint mare was just diagnosed with Navicular Disease! My vet prescribed a shot of Osphos and a wedge pad for the right foot (she already wears a wedge on the left to help correct a too low heel angle). The plan is to ditch the right wedge asap as she is not a fan of it. At our appointment she was a 5-5 lame( bad day/ran around like a crazy horse) normally she is a 2/3-5. With the shot and the wedge she is now a 1-5 (improvement yay). Which brings me to my question! What are the exercise recommendations for a horse with mild/moderate navicular disease? Right now we're taking things slow, avoiding tight quick turns, Groundwork only at this point. I can find tons of information on Navicular disease/syndrome but theirs very little information on what types of exercise is best for a horse that has been positively identified as having full blown navicular disease. #askthevetvideo

My horse is 2 and she has a wart on her neck.. What should I do?? She's a beautiful Palomino, but the wart sticks out like a sore thumb. Please, what can I do? You answered about the ear... But what about other parts of their body? Thank you in advance.

My horse is outside 24/7 in a large pasture with grass and has a lot of horses to interact with, but he still cribs. He even cribs while eating hay and grain. I've left him alone about it, but if cribbing is a stress reliever, would it be a good idea to have my vet look at him?

in my experience most people break in about 3 for very light work and then turn away in the field for a few months before going back to it, this allows them to process their work and learn it properly. continue flat work for a year until they are 4, when light jumping can be started.
