My lease who just went back to his owner (was a care lease for the summer) was a quarter horse, and was HYPP positive.

Is an hypp horse predisposed to illnesses or infections or do illnesses trigger an episode or both?

My 16 yr cross has just been diagnosed as HYPP n/h and I am learning as much as I can to know how best to support him. What are these "potassium clearing" medications and are they given long term or just during an episode?

I don't really want to know what may happen if a horse is getting a seizure under saddle and collapses. From an animal welfare standpoint, you probably shouldn't ride a horse with a severe neurological disability, either way, but you don't want a horse to collapse on top of you.
