For the lovely lady who travels with basics, a couple of elegant scarves in flattering colours can do wonders for a basic outfit.

The fabrics conversation is so layered and I appreciated that part of the conversation a lot. Anytime I think about fabrics I think about a few things - Alyssa said a few episodes back about having an “exit plan” for an item you’re buying. I loved that and it stuck with me. It gives me pause when adding something partially synthetic to my wishlist. Another thing I think about is how my husband and dad’s suits are 100% wool - but they feel smooth like silk. Why can’t womens suits be made of a similar quality wool?

I'm glad the comment about not being able to wear certain fabrics was addressed. As I've grown older, I cannot wear wool or cashmere, so I typically look for all cotton, cotton blend, or an acrylic blend. What I wear has to be suitable for my body and pocketbook. I have a hard time spending $300 on a sustainable cotton sweater when $50 is more in my price range. I can't afford the most sustainable companies, but I do my best to avoid the truly fast fashion brands. I do what I can.

I found this extremely helpful and informative ladies. As a teen my mum would only let me bring in new bits if I gave something up. I had a very small wardrobe of items. Mum also decluttered regularly from her and my wardrobe (when I was at school 😢) I think this is partly why I struggle to let things go to the point of over doing it...but I'm definitely improving. This is mainly thanks to the guidance of Alyssa, whom I've followed for yearsss. Now, with you Christina and Signe reinforcing my journey. I have been on a no buy for three months (this is huge for me) and I will just keep going, as I really don't need anything. I'm not struggling at all. I know this probably sounds a tad over the top but when the advice and guidance is heartfelt and so solid, it's impactful. I just can't watch haul videos at all because I just disagree so strongly with anyone needing to do this in the wardrobe, it's so unrealistic to me. I'm so grateful to you all. Always interesting. One thing to note about sustainability of fabrics is that production of "natural" fibers is not particularly environmentally friendly, either. There are trade-offs to everything. To me, this argues most strongly to being thoughtful about what we buy, and choosing used items when it's reasonable, caring for our clothes so they will last a long time, and wearing things many times before getting rid of them. If I do this, then I can choose clothing for purpose and worry less about what they're actually made from.

Fantastic discussion! For me I've discovered that when I quit purchasing for my fantasy self, my wardrobe became much more practical, suitable for my lifestyle, comfortable and wearable. When I'm shopping, I always ask am I really going to wear this and how often? I went through a phase of watching old movies to see what people were wearing through the decades. That helped me learn what timeless really meant. There are silhouettes and prints that no one could guess what decade they're from such as polka dots or bretton stripe. Unfortunately we're so tempted by fads such as camouflage and cold shoulder tops that all the sudden went out of style and no one would be caught dead in them. Now I see them everywhere in the thrift shops, and I think how sad. The most sustainable items are the ones that we wear as many times as we possibly can.

Thank you for the balanced conversation about polyester. There are benefits to the fabric and people sound ignorant when they write off the fabric in its entirety. My cotton pieces always lose their shape eventually and I have to replace them. My polyester pieces last forever. And if you add polyester to cotton or linen, voila! - it becomes wrinkle resistant.

For the first question: ecco makes a lot of walking shoes that are more formal/ business casual they are my default for travel.

I had help from a lady in England at the start of my curated closet journey, several years ago. And after maybe 5 minutes of looking through what I had she asked; But what are you wearing? I said either my jeans, trousers or skirt. She was shocked at how few things I had! I think that sometimes having too little things make it hard to get a working wardrobe! Not always too much. Then I found the three of you and I slowly build several capsuls. Both for the house and the appartment, for working in the garden, walking my dog and very special occasions etc. After that initial help with what she thought I needed most I have listened and learned soo much from you guys and I will be for ever grateful that I found you and that you are soo good at what you do 👌 Now I have a totally different life where I am confident every morning (or evening) in whatever I am doing as I feel great in my cloths! Love you guys 🥰

Brilliant as always! I always fly in my vegan leather pants with elastic waist. They look cool and can be paired with almost anything. So depending on where I am going and what kind of shoes I need I can wear them and they are super comfy. Also as airplanes are not the cleanest of places when you reach your destination you can just wipe them (trousers) off 😊

Polyester does last forever! I get occasional snide comments because I don’t wear leather, no doubt from women who wear leggings, bras, “performance fabrics,” spandex in everything…

My question is: How do you choose the investment peace for YOU? I mean, how do you know that it's worth the price? How do you know that you really will love and wear it for a bunch of times that it's worth the higher price tag? And here I mean now, the pieces like Alyssa's Loewe bag, not a bit pricier top or something like that. So how to choose well YOUR investment piece?

I don't have a separate travel wardrobe, everything I wear is comfortable because it fits me and I'm a healthy weight, my style is modern Parisian woman: flattering jeans, corduroys, neutrals, jumpers, beautiful and warm outerwear, all reasonably priced and in a classic style that will last forever. I don't understand women who wear special outfits for flying - really?! If you can't bear to sit in a plane seat with your jeans on, then they are not the right jeans for you or they no longer fit you. A beautiful scarf or a brooch can make even a hiking outfit chic, if you think hiking gear is even necessary to go for a long walk. I walk a lot and I just wear normal clothes, I also look for comfortable but still beautiful shoes/sandals, nothing too sporty or casual, I have wide feet and you can still find great footwear that looks elegant if you look hard enough, and when you do, buy multiples in different colours, etc. I don't like the amount of sporty/leisure clothing that so many people wear, especially those who are not fit or sporty at all, it's the elasticated waists they're attracted to. I stay away from elasticated waists, in the UK they've always been associated with older people who have given up on style. They also encourage overeating so I only wear fitted clothes like my grandma used to do.
