This is my full review of the new 71F quadruplet apochromatic refractor telescope from Askar. It's an excellent little telescope both for visual observations as well as for astrophotography. Check this video out to find out more about its strengths and weaknesses. Enjoy!

Picked it up a couple of days ago. My initial concern and probably the only concern was that it was bit slow at f6.9. But as someone who lives in Arizona with 320+ days of clear weather, I don’t mind the slow scope at this price. Ironically haven’t got a chance to test it yet, because it’s been cloudy since the day I got the scope 😂

I bought the Askar71F to fill the focal length gap between my RedCat51 and AT115. I love that it has multiple dovetail attachment points. The focuser on mine is not completely smooth and feels a little gritty at points but is still quite serviceable. I paired it with an ASI585MC Pro and it performs well. I’m not fond of 45 degree diagonals for anything but a terrestrial spotting scope. I’m trying to figure out how this scope can be mounted on a camera tripod. The dovetail has two threaded holes but isn’t reversible and standard camera tripod attachment screws are too short to reach inside that dovetail. I prefer the camera rotator rather than the focuser rotating. I’m using it on an AM5 and with the ASIAIR. All things considered, it’s a great scope for the money.

I own it. I love it. The only thing I had to do was get some riser blocks so I get my auto focuser to clear the dovetail plate.

I've fixed that on my Askar FRA400 with a few risers O-rings and longer screw. A big total of 5 bucks :)

To be honest considering the aperture, these pictures are pretty amazing, good scope for photography in my opinion.

Nice scope, shame you did not test with a bigger sensor, to check on the field flatness.. as this is pretty important for an advertised flat field scope…good video all the same 👍🏻

Any telescopes primary purpose is to gather as much light as possible. All things equal, go bigger. (Ed Ting) To each their own. Thanks! -mike

Why you have not compared with SVbony ? Askar comes with 2 eyepieces, star diagonal, extenders and adaptors and built in field flattener. This is bargain of the year!

It appears to be an extraordinary well built telescope. However, that is a really small aperture limiting light collection.

The 51 Redcat is even smaller and it does a good job of collecting light/imaging.

looking for the best light rig setup based on the SvBony 503ed 80mm with Skywatcher Adventurer GTI mount. Can you provide suggestions?

@michaelnixon6672 If you are looking too keep things as light as possible, I would recommend a zoom EP, like the SV215. It will be a great match for the telescope in terms of quality and available magnification - maximum flexibility. The only downside being the short eye relief. If you are looking for the best image quality for planetrary observations including a generous eye relief possible, then consider the 4mm DeLite from Tele Vue. Alternatively go for the 7mm DeLite + a 2x Barlow from Tele Vue for more flexibility. Whichever eyepiece you go with, make sure that the diagonal you use is up to the job as this can be a bottleneck for the whole setup. Hope this helps.

@graemedevine9651 Yes, because the FOV of the 71F is much wider than the one of the SkyMax and will allow for wider DSOs to fit in one frame.

@@graemedevine9651 Прошу Вас, прежде, чем делать такие заключения почитать теорию астрофотографии и технические характеристики телескопов, а именно конструкцию, что такое ED, APO, Super APO, Triplet, Quadruplet, в чем между ними различие и как это различие влияет на качество картинки Если не вдаваться подробности, то условно существуют телескопы для визуальных наблюдений и для астрофотографии. В астрофотографии крайне важна максимальная коррекция оптических аберраций различного порядка, от простого хроматизма, до сферических разного порядка. При визуальных наблюдениях, в первую очередь важна апертура, а при астрофотографии светосила. Да, это прямо связано между собой, но это связано большой разницей в стоимости телескопов. Телескоп из видео чисто для астрофотографии, визуально в него только если на Луну смотреть. Ваш Skymax 150, это телескоп чисто для визуальных наблюдений. Explore Scientific 102mm F/7 ed APO отлично подойдет для визуальных наблюдений, для фотографии объектов дальнего космоса, вам надо дополнить его редуктором фокуса и корректором поля.
