Hi Jeff, Thanks again for the videos. I'm in the process of making an impact mill myself. One question I have been struggling with is the output screen. If I want 50 mesh coming out does my screen need to have 50 mesh holes? When you say yours is putting out -50 mesh dust, is that the average size, or is that what your screen will allow. I don't know how to get a 50 mesh screen that would have any strength to withstand the rocks hitting it. I can get 1/8" or 1/16" punch plate easy enough.

I thought I was being clever an built a hand unit out of galvanized pipe. You know - Tin can get you pretty excited until you figure out that it's the galvanizing coming off. Your device looks to work a lot better than the hand unit I built (3 " black iron [now] with a 1-1/2" pestle). It works but not without some sweat! Good job - especially pointing out a different screen location and rock feed design details.

Wow, I didn't know you were a mechanic?! My dad owns an 8 bay tire shop and we do a lot of wrench turning. But, I have never seen so many books on different cars and parts until the video started. I am a newbie gold prospector if I am qualified for that level yet!! I have panned about 10 pans and zero yellow yet, well, I have had plenty of yellow mini pebbles in my pan. It is very frustrating but I will not give up! I have just the bare minimum tools so far but I enjoy being in a creek panning. I hope to have a mine lab gold monster 1000 soon. It is difficult to find gold without one! Anyway, it is cool that we have a few things in common. I changed the big rig truck and farm tires for 20 years and it broke my body down so now I have a ton of free time. I need some help first off with just knowing the names of the rocks and different ways they mix so I can find good rocks to crush and not waste time on junk rocks. Oh, My dad was born in Arizona I think. Not sure that is your home state or not but we also share the same great last name 😀! Could you please point me in the right direction of a book or website that gives really good pictures so I may learn faster?? I know a lot more already then I would have by watching your videos but that is not saying much for me. I never panned before the end of last week. I basically went and bought the Garrett kit with a half inch classifier and 2 pans. I am getting use to panning itself but I am sure to learn much more and develop my own style. I know you say go where mining has already happened. But, I have a creek running through my land and I wanted to make this my training grounds. A friend of mine assures me that gold has been panned on down the road from me on his land. I am just learning the ropes of where to look. There was a huge flood last year and it washed 15ft high place out of my bank and the water went very high on the land near the creek. I am not sure if I should pan where the water maxed or stay near the bedrock? Any help will be much appreciated!!! I hope to find some yellow shiny in my pan today!! And yeah, I'm gonna get wet! Sorry for the massive comment but I have watched soo many videos that I feel like I have known you for years! Once I learn the ropes I hope to come out and spend 3 days learning more!! I hope to get an ounce of gold this year to complete a goal. I may set it higher and so on because I already love the hunt for gold!

Hey Doc see you've scaling-up your impacter from the baby mill you had before... NICE job too! If your anything like me you'll soon realize you also need a jaw crusher & ball mill or the processing gets bottlenecked something fierce. If you run that baby dry get yourself a cyclone dust separator system for your shop vacuum or expect to stop & clean filters every 3 to 5 mins. Using it wet can rot the metal/make issues with second grinds or sieving. Just what the doctor ordered though;)

Also you can do few lines of hard welding about using special electrodes. but you have to heat the chamber while welding and do some heat treaatment. Jeff you are a bit crazy. I love it. I am thinking of building a crusher like yours but for a different use. I am looking for a way to crack and break corn for feed. I assume it would work but I am not sure. I do not need the corn as fine as your getting it. I assume that by putting a screen with larger holes on it this would accomplish that. Just wondering what your thoughts are.

hey nice machine, how did you balance the shaft? Also what size gas motor would it take to run? My gen is to small for that but would love to have it on my claim. Thanks for the vids have learned some great stuff and will pass it on to my Grand kids.

Thanks for the great video Jeff.. I decided to build one after watching your video. I just finished building a jaw crusher but I need something to get the material finer so I can run it threw my gold cube. What did you use for a screen? Did you build it or buy it & what size mesh? Thanks again..

Where do you get hardened steel pipe from that is in 17" or larger in diameter?

If it is A36 steel pipe you can heat it up with an oxy-acetylene torch with heating tip until a magnet will no longer stick. Have a tub of water, say a no3 metal tub with something for pipe to sit on at the bottom. After pipe is heated pick it up with a couple pair of channel locks with welding gloves and full face shield - this puppy is going to be hot! Place in tub quickly and get back. Water will probably boil, so wear appropriate clothing. Remember to have as much welding done beforehand as this changes the crystalline structure as well.
