the coupler is known as a LoveJoy coupler, commonly used in industrial motor applications. we use them at our power plant in Sonora, CA for all our pumps and some of our gearboxes. very important to make sure the couplers are lined up very close to perfectly all the way around, or they tend to chew through those rubber coupler pieces quite quickly.

We modified my 11in gas KN crusher with the side mount and chain modifications. Also added a 12 inch 1/2 inch steel hopper on top. Wow this thing works great now. Huge improvement! Doesnt jam much and doesnt go through screens like it did before. Love the great information. Wanted to say thanks

I made one 20 inches wide 20 inches in diameter with a five horse Briggs it has double bearings one on the coverplate but is going to have the lower half removable for quick clean outs and the whole top half and bearing removable for repair/maintenance with Ar 500 or some high manganese steel breaker bar strips welded in. Thanks for the videos they are definitely entertaining and informative and keep me motivated

i've also found that running the crusher wet will reduce the dust , but i have to make 2 or 3 passes to get the crush sized small enough ( the internal screens where removed to prevent plugging )

Also, a guard on that LOVE JOY coupler is an EXCELLENT idea as clothing, hair, ect... can easily get caught in it.

Also, if you mark the shaft where the set screw contacts it you can drill an indentation in the shaft just a hair bigger in diameter then the set screw. Use a file to clean up the shaft where the indentation was drilled, align and install the set screw, and that Love Joy Coupler wont slide on the shaft.

finally found the video showing the inside workings , ill try an build one these simple enough , bearing being both on back side narrow grinder if nothing else larger dia shaft would allow wider crusher like the belt driver more then direct drive, belt can slip if it gets stuck .... if might be called when it gets stuck . screen fills up with limonite over fill , sure that happens

I would bet a half days wage those "strike plates" are a simple arc weld bead of Nickel Rod. I cold also make this mill significantly longer lasting and better using Manganese Steel. I've worked on machines that shot steel shot at the speed of sound constructed of Manganese.. Great video, get that Au!

Wonder if making a V shaped plate on the chains will force the fines out the screens better , It`ll go thru the rock ok if it has a case hardened weld on the edge , Be like a chisel tip going thru the rock .

Jeff Slim, how about an actual diy /how to make one of these bad boys? i mean $1000 for entry level crusher is expensive thats more then the mine cost. now i know what your going to say, so i think a smaller version for sampling or small production. once you know your claim is a producer buy a big one from Steve over at K&M. i was thinking a parts list would be helpful , also a video on a roller mill, they have those grain mills the home brewers use that would be awesome of course one would have to beef it up a tad. anywho keep up the great work, love your videos.

How hard is it to drill holes in large blocks to fracture them using feather sheets to make smaller pieces to crush and extract gold from? I know the electric mikuni industrial compact drills can chew through granite but still it's never that easy

i build a crushed similar to this but bigger , the drum is 18" in dia and 20" deep , powered by a 15 hp gas motor .... the issue i have is small bits of steel wearing off and getting into the ore . i used grade 70 transport chain as hammers ........ i'm thinking of maybe using grade 120 lifting chain ... any thoughts on this , and is there a way to share photo's of it here ?
