Thanks ! You just saved me the 500$ ... My mechanic was about to charge me to replace the whole wiper assembly with new stuff from Toyota. I followed your instructions, and my wipers now works like new.

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" Thank you for sharing, my good man :-) I just couldn't figure out how the shaft was held up into the sleeve. After 23 years living in the salt belt, the corrosion at the tip had become so severe I couldn't see that teeny little ring holding the shaft tight, and your video gave the vital clues I needed to find it and taking it apart. For those having trouble removing the parts, using a heat on the sleeve will enlarge it a bit to give a chance for the penetrating oil to seep in. Give it some time, I worked on it all day on and off until I finally got it loose in the afternoon. When I finally pulled the shaft out it was so badly pitted there is now plenty of space to hold the lubricant between the shaft and the sleeve ;-)

Brilliant. Thanks a lot. Followed this excellent how-to today, step-by-step. Cleaned up and regreased - all parts now fully lubed and working smoothly. Hopefully no more seizing up issues. Note to others; when putting everything back together, don't torque/tighten the bolt on the spindles too tightly... the spindle thread/head tends to be a soft metal and can snap if over-tightened... or at least a mechanic told me so.

This helped me. I was able to follow the steps on your video and solved the problem. My driver's side spindle was seized on my 2004 Audi A4 Avant. Thank you!!!!!

Fantastic! Saved me $100 by not replacing with new linkage. Used brake caliper glide silicon, has never been smoother. Thanks for your video.

Thanks for sharing, really helped. If only I'd not hit the spindle slightly off centre and broke it!! Mind you it was so seized you couldn't move it at all by hand but amazingly the motor would drive it very very slowly until it tripped out.

+Eric B Funny thing I sprayed to some penetrating oil in there, and then you have to with no tools rock aggressive back and forth the wiper arms and they will pop off.

Thanks for the video, one of my spindles was completely stuck and took a day to move after tapping it with a hammer. Got some advice to apply some heat which did the trick. Now to assemble and test,

I hadn’t noticed, I can only think the reason is that one wiper blade sits on top of the other when parked and would need a shorter wiping arc, this would have a longer arm. Please send me photos if possible and confirm if I am correct, I could then add a part 2

Don't you have to use silicone lubricant with rubber on metal parts? or the rubber can be destroyed?

Thanks for responding. For those reading this I should have been clear that I was talking about a Mk.I [facelifted] Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra. I can't send photos as the linkage is now back on the car (50% chance of getting it right on rebuild - lucked in!). I can confirm that on the Galaxy the longer spindle arm is fitted to the right hand end when viewed from the front of the vehicle. BTW, later models/replacement linkages appear to have heat treated/hardened spindles.

is there an easy way of freeing the wiper arm or a special technique?as to-day I struggled for an hour and still it wouldn't budge,on my 2010 Nissan micra.

Something you don't point out is that the two spindle arms are different lengths, but it's not obvious until they are compared side-by-side. Which one is fitted to which side?

That movement at 2:20. On mine i can squeese the top with my fingers and it will stay idle even though the wiggle lever arm is moving back and forth. Very annoying. Think i will have to weld it shut.

I did this but made the mistake of hitting the linkage and when I try to put back the bolts to secure the windshield wiper arm the linkage tread striped my bolt, now I do not know what to do retread the linkage or just buy a new one and do the whole job again

It’s a Ford Galaxy but they are all very similar and the repair would be the same.

Yes but one of mine was so tightly seized up that I couldn't get it out, even after 24 hours of penetrating oil. It was the original part from 2001. I gave up and bought a new part.
@jarlbrageisaksen80883 жыл бұрын
Might have to do the same. I have been trying to get it seperated for hours with penetrering oil. Is wont even go around

What about when the spindle is completely drowned in rust that comes of in flakes? The retaining clip is welded by rust to the spindle, it can't be taken away...
