In this video I go over the different ways to rotoscope using After Effects. I feel that many people don't know how to rotoscope efficiently and I hope that this video gives newbies insight into how that all works.

Hey! I just wanted to say that your tutorial was great. I must spend so much time scrubbing through other tutorials because they waste time on areas that aren't necessary, whereas I thought the pacing of yours was great! Snappy and to the point. Please keep 'em coming! I also wanted say how great it is that you're making this channel. I'm currently planning a big career change in order to try and turn my hobby into my career (my current job is very different haha) and channels like yours are such a big help in aiding me to learn and just to keep me motivated to work towards my dream job! Very late to the video but in this particular example you can also use after effects' built in face tracker, super easy, super quick and fairly accurate.

I would concentrate on working in Nuke if you're serious. You can get a non-commercial version for free

Jack Purkiss Lee pretty much covered it. It won’t hurt you to learn after effects but if you’re serious about compositing I’d start with Nuke.

So, is rotorush more demanding than rotoscope, or are they just different tools in general?

I think Rotobrush is fine for personal work or down and dirty roto but for professional projects, rotobrush is too cumbersome to work with effectively. It’s not very accurate, it’s hard to update, there’s a lack of overall control with the roto shape itself and is resource intensive. Rotobrush is great in concept but in larger pipelines it’s more trouble than it’s worth. It also crashes a lot depending on shot length and the amount of calculation required of it. Hopefully, with the help of AI this tool will improve to a more useable level in the future but for me personally, I would not recommend it for professional work.
