In the video, I discussed the importance of making strategic decisions on which technologies to invest time in based on career stage. For early-career engineers (0-5 years), exploring various technologies is beneficial due to ample time and energy to learn. As one progresses (5+ years), focus and align on technologies relevant to career goals and deep expertise. Emphasized the "hell yes or no" approach for exploring new technologies and the transferability of learning. Balancing depth and breadth in skills is crucial for career growth and success.

learning is important for software engineers but I don't think exploring everything is possible while in job I did explore backend, frontend, android, ML, IOT .. in college but not while in job While being jack of all trades, it's important to be master of one For example, full stack dev with expertise/gaining expertise in backend Seriously, I've tried frontend development and like most parts of it except developing UI. I don't think HTML & CSS has much to do with engineering .. so even though I know frontend development, I choose backend and would go deeper into it with just around 2 years of experience I find ML interesting but I won't see any job openings that says ML & Backend engineer 2 cents!

As a developer, you are paid for solving problems, not for writing code. Writing code is just another way to solve the problem. Well Said.

I'm a data engineer and learning Rust/Go/Solidity allowed me to earn £100k+ in 2021, something i learnt out of curiousity was very beneficial and my underlying software skills allowed me to learn these new languages quickly so i think learning new languages is always a good thing if it is a trend you see

I think your views are amazing but I would like know how to learn during college days. Everywhere I see things that is amuzing for me like computer graphics, ml, pl research, compilers, etc. How to find which is for me? Do I need to go in depth to the nitty gritty or something else. I am learning Haskell for functional programming language research but then I stumbled upon another beautiful things called graphics which is too good not to get into. And then also I am learning about DB internals by watching Professor Andy CMU course on DB. What suggestions would you give to me? thanks for your amazing advice.
