It's always fun to see how different people struggle with different bosses

So many bosses in Souls games punish you for dodging backwards. It’s counter intuitive but dodging forward and side to side always seems to help me.

I mean he is targeting the head, witch makes this boss very hard indeed. Just like the fire giant he spent like 5 tries targeting the wrong leg and did almost zero DMG. Asmon really lives up to the warriors name. He stronk but not that smart.

This boss actually does insane damage in mountaintops compared to the previous versions, so I can understand the pain

I personally love these birds, their magic and lore is so interesting. Essentially, these birds are basically ancient incarnates of death, reapers of the lands between carrying souls to the next world but that was until the erdtree appeared and changed the concept of death, severing the birds connection to the next world pretty much destroying the power these birds once wielded. what we’re fighting is a death bird with a handicap. Imagine what it would be like if these birds had their power returned.

I was running away from this boss and while this boss chased me it killed himself by fall damage 😳

This boss counters his play style so hard it’s so satisfying. Asmon is super passive and keeps range in front of enemies, because that usually works against small mobs vs his halberd. This boss wants you to do exactly that lol. Get wrecked bro…

"I can't see!" "Lock off." "I can't keep track of it!" "Lock onto the body" "I DON'T WANT TO"

It took me a minute to figure out the Rite variant of this boss. His normal form is a joke. This shit is basically Super Saiyan Blue Deathbird though. I only killed this one on the first try because the exact same version spawns in Caelid right beneath the magic pot throwing giant and I fought him at least 4 times before I beat him. The trick is to stay behind him and NOT lock on. Not only do all of his melee attacks miss you in this position, but his magic attacks as well. The fire never spreads behind him and the homing skull attack can't do a 180. Remember that for when you're feeling squirrely enough to take on the version of him that's even worse than this one 😂.

Watching Asmon get punished this hard pairs great with my morning coffee. Definitely a treat to wake up to!

This boss is incredibly easy when you just don’t lock on and stay near his feet instead of rolling away. I don’t understand why asmon refuses to ever change up his playstyle.

Actually insane how different builds and playstyles make some bosses so easy for some and so hard for others. I one shot this bird with ease, but I remember seeing asmong making quite light of Mohg, even without the curse canceling teardrop. It was the first and only boss I lost my mind over and went on to search for a solution.

When McConnell asked "I don't know how you lived at 1 hp" - there is actually a Elden Ring mechanic that both bosses and players have. Bosses have 15-35% of going to 1 hp when you hit them. Players have a 5-15% chance to go to 1 hp when hit. It's a mechanic to add some RNG to give players and bosses a chance to change the outcome.

He’s literally hitting the boss for 20% of its HP he only needs to hit it 5 times lol

This bird has like 20 moves and he died to every single one of them lol

His face is so innocent but once he starts screaming he feels like a completely different person

I have never disagreed more with Asmon than that final remark, Artorias was an amazing fight.

Notice how he decided to hit his body at the very end because he couldn’t hit the head 😂

It's strange to see someone force themselves to fight one of these bosses using exclusively jump attacks.

I find with bigger enemies, dodging into them is much more advantageous

Asmons problem is refusing to use any other tactics in these souls games other then getting a big strength weapon and lots of hp.. He has a hard time because melee is obviously the worst way to kill the death rite birds. He refuses to use holy dmg so he'll never realize how trivial the fights are with things like sacred blade, ect.

I actually struggled a lot with this one too. People complain a lot about bosses that swing at nigh un-reactable speeds. He’s one of the few that actually does.

Did anyone tell asmon you can dodge to sides too in this game? Expecially when 95% of the boss moveset is vertical hit+beam and only couple swipes 😂😂😂😂😂

Asmon experienced every stage of grief in one boss fight

PATIENCE is the only thing you need for these games. If you go into the fight saying I want to get this out of the way, you've already lost.

This was easily a top 5 hardest boss in the game for me, took me almost an hour, and about 20-30 tries total. Whereas I beat guys like Mogh and the secret Dragonlord boss first time which people notoriously say are hard. All about matchups, and peoples play style I suppose.

His ego is exploding into flames, much like his character, exploding into the black flames of this bird

I also struggled on this boss at first but decided to lock on its body and doing so made the fight much easier.

Makes me think of Vaas (FC3) "Do you know the definition of insanity? It's doing the same thing over and over again expecting shit to change."

I had the same thing with the godskin apostle in Caleid divine tower where he has loads of area attacks and doesn’t stagger no matter what. Basically using heavy builds when an enemy doesn’t stagger is pure pain he broke after 30 minutes I went on for 2 hours and gave up

I've never seen anyone be so successful at making a boss look way harder than it is

I struggled on this thing too. But I eventually just used a summon and horseback. I can't believe he was targeting its head the whole time

The hidden snowfield one is even worse

I personally struggle with this boss sometimes too so I use the item you can get from I think morgots remembrance that shoots out projectiles

I always hate fighting these birds but the biggest problem is the lock on and you can't always go for the head. It's simply you being to greedy for that extra damage and this boss actually punishes you for it.

Certainly not the worst boss. It's just that this boss's move set is soooooo anti-Asmon. Asmon likes to retreat by walking straight back, which is a death sentence against this bosses fire attacks. Once Asmon gets hit by the fire he starts panic rolling, and at that point the boss has already won. I feel his pain, though... I died quite a bit against Big Bird here!!!

It's actually an incredible and fun boss but if you have the wrong approach, it won't get easier without adapting. He clearly has a certain way he wanted to win

To be fair a lot of those bosses such as the fire giant when you play as a melee you can see there telegraphed moves because of only being able to see a portion of them

Some of the death birds and sentinels were the hardest fights in the game for me, most of the main bosses i beat on 1st or 2nd try...some of these bastards took ages...i think its the fact that they're super aggressive and you don't get a moment to breath.

The boss isn’t bad. You just kept rolling backwards. You’re not supposed to run backwards when the boss is shooting its abilities in a straight line.

Seeing a strength build run into a boss that they can't just walk through is always entertaining

well they can just make the camera zoom out when you're approaching a big boss like that so u can see better whats happening

There is an even harder version of this boss in the consecrated snowfield. But if you have something decent where you could put sacred blade on it, it will chunk the boss. Despite that it still has pretty mean combos and deals absurd amounts of damage.

The boss is good, but he got so powerful that instead of learning the bosses attack patterns, he just tried to brute force it.

Why would you think Asmon would change his tactic? He still lives the way he lived when he was 10.

I found that jump attack build worked really well for this boss, because you can come down right on his noggin with both swords, which does extra dmg. Interesting that he struggled so much with it, considering the only real difference is polearms instead of swords…

Consistantly leaves health at 70%. "He one shotted me!"

I often find that if I am struggling with a boss, it is usually because my approach to fighting them is too shallow and that changing tactics after learning its choreography helps dramatically. It does not make sense for every boss' weak point to be "easy to hit." They would naturally move their head around to protect it. IRL fighters do this constantly, it is very important. Likewise an opponent focusing on a weak point too thoroughly can lead to them being distracted from other elements of a fight. You are meant to change focus. Aim at their head when it is feasible, and at their body when it is not. Elden Ring allows you to quickly cycle targets while targeting for that reason. If you are struggling with any boss, try changing your approach, every new encounter with a boss is just learning a new song and dance. You have to adjust to that song and dance if want things to go well. If you're trying to breakdance to classic opera or sing louder than the choir, you are going to struggle, and doing that is okay, but you have to accept that your unwillingness to follow the rhythm that was laid before you is the cause of that struggle. There are always going to be builds/strategies that are ill-suited to fight some bosses, and there should be. Anything contrary would trivialize any obstacle the game would throw at you, or require developers to give every boss multiple forms and find some way to predict what form would make for the best playing experience for your build/strategy; this is unrealistic. You did well in defeating that boss. I know you said you don't feel good about beating the boss, but you should. Your song was louder, and that is impressive. Well done.

"it's not that big of a deal" - me after getting killed 20+ times and have to call my friend in for a boss

This boss has very quick attacks but Silurias Woe goes in hard, to be frank its AOE scattering attacks are sensitive. Strangely, its offensive his special attacks very widespread so up close instantly by using Bloodhound Step is a good one. Takes awhile for the Death Rite Bird to get poised, but its head takes more damage.

Great content besides the constant complaining. Move your target lock or just unlock and aim ypurself and then follow him with the camera, Asmon targets the head and wonders why the camera is moving so much. Also rolling into and attacking the body is much easier on these guys as you avoid their weapons and magic.

A month later and it's still just as funny

8:50-9:15 such a hyper packed rollercoaster of emotions and pain

Hmmm is that boss only can be found in that place or not because I fight that thing once on the red land or Caelid and I shock that he does a frost damage and not rot or fire and that surprise me so I go back and finding that boss again and I can’t find him anymore again on caelid

I died to this boss for three hours.. stopped playing. Opened the game up the next day… randomly decided to use the halo scythe ash of war on him and I deleted him first try lol. Holy damage wrecks him.

I'm telling ya whoever made the bird enemies in Elden Ring had to be the most evil human on the planet. Beat the game 5 times and the black crows alone are still nightmare fuel

Another thing that helped was unlocking from him, while running away, then locking back onto him when I was ready to attack again.

Protip for anyone who plays a FromSoftware game: if you want to be good, you choose the cane and not the axe. In other words, you don’t ever choose the overpowered weapon. Your curve is a troll.

I went from laughing hysterically on the first few deaths to actually feeling bad about the amount of deaths he was experiencing to happy that he beat him to somewhat disappointed that he was not happy about beating him.

Man, I forgot about this boss. This is one I just run from any time I encounter it.

I also struggled with this boss a lot. The one on the frozen lake. I believe it is the toughest one with the most health. It is actually a hard boss. It has a very varied, frantic and unpredictable moveset. It was the only boss in the game to actually get me flustered because I couldn't telegraph its moves easily. I died to it most out of all bosses.

This boss fight is absolutely epic. Asmon, you gotta learn to unlock ur camera during certain fights and only lock on when ur attacking. Also u didn’t give the “clicking into other body parts” enough tries. That REALLY Helps STOP locking onto his head. When you lock on his body you have much better success than the stupid head. His head moves around so crazy and locking on forces your camera to go crazy. Saying you dont want to lock on to his body just because head takes double damage is such a bad justification for continuing to die. Whats the point that it does more damage if you miss more than 3 times as much? Lock onto the body.

Watching you lock onto that squirrelly head then run beneath the boss was frustrating. That torso lock on is gold. Also, I love watching you take it on with double hally. I killed these birds pretty easily since I used Torrent and an arsenal, but you... you did double hally and said ima knock it's head off or die trying... XD HILARIOUS. This could be considered a "challenge run" considering the high ask fuck risk (that head is hell to track) high reward factor. Good show.

The equivalent of this boss for me was the gargoyle in Caelid, where the Beast Clergyman resides. I was absolutely getting my shit pushed in by that boss.

the death rite bird is a formidable foe. I just didnt lock on at all, stayed on his backside and ran away with the horse with for the arrow and cloud attacks.

I remember struggling with this boss, among other death birds on my first playthrough. For the record, use holy weapons and or ash of wars like ‘Sacred blade’. Death birds become a joke afterwards.

We all have that one boss that makes us want to destroy everything in sight. For me, it was Margit. Wasn't high enough level. It did not go well😆

I vividly remember struggling with this boss during my first playthrough. This version of the Death Rite Bird was second only to Malenia in terms of difficulty for me at the time.

This is an open world boss, means you can cheese it by hidding behind a rock far away and spam range attack to chip him down. I cant remember which range weapon I use as I finished the game 6 months ago, Bolt of Gransax or the Bubble Horn which do holy damage. Close combat was hard for this boss as the AOE blackflame will one shot you and hard to dodge due to its wide area coverage.
