I think engineers tend to have a better understand of niche cultures of the Internet than most of the PR and call-centre folk who'd be working at that same company though. Autistic people too, since its easier to "socialise" online, they tend to have a better understanding of online etiquette than in the real world. Anyways, I'm sure there's got to be a lot of folk at that conference who saw the live feed and thought "this is going to end badly". McDonalds US is very lower class while in Europe it's middle class or higher. The quality of ingredients is far higher, it's much more expensive. As part of that, the CEO Europe managed to turn the logo Green instead of red, to create the image of a relaxing natural lounge instead of fast paced stressed red logo. It had really become two different companies. Very different customers and image.

McDonald's actually knew this was going to happen. They got far more out of their ads this way, and the shock value they couldn't provide with them. Press is press, and it had no negative affiliation with the company itself.

I used to work at a McDonald's. There were spiders in the lettuce and roaches in the frappe machine. Also up until less than a year ago, the meat wasn't fresh. Also the lady that was in charge (whatever you call the managers that go from store to store. Brain's not working at the moment) always came in drunk, would make messes and if you didn't clean it she'd fire you. That's just an example. She also would come up with new rules that weren't real so she could have a reason to yell at you. Also we somehow knew when we were getting health inspections and the place wouldn't get actually clean until like the day before.

What people don't understand is that advertising has advanced to an understanding of the psychology of humans in today times. Mcdonalds knows what their doing they made themselves look like victims and got free advertising to boot. It is like this guy said about the raid ad.

Restaurant where I worked, on the rare chance we got a mouse or rat, we would check the bread racks to make sure they didn't nibble into the bun bags and leave droppings. If one of the bags of buns was punctured, we didn't sell it.

I will never forgot the day I went to McDonald’s with a friend and his mom and got a Club sandwich ( yeah I know it ain’t a thing no more) and I found a living prey mantis just chilling on the lettuce. I was so shocked I showed my friends mom and she just said extra protein. I took the lettuce off and left it outside. Ate the sandwich still. That moment lives rent free in my brain.

from someone who was a fryer technician for years....Every restaurant has bugs/roaches and/or rats/mice. You find plenty running grease lines for bulk oil in the ceiling. Some places appear to be very clean up front but are just as bad in the kitchen. Chic-fil-a and a small chain called char-grill along with Jack-in-the-box in NC (exclusively NC) are the only "Clean" places I have seen. It really depends on the ower group and not the chain or brand. Ive seen 5 star restaurants that are worse than a nasty MCD's. Surprisingly BK is pretty OK overall. It not great but its what you expect as far as a fast food place. It not Disgusting but its just greasy. Literally ever food place has some kind of nasty "secret".

Like a famous chef in my country said about mcdonalds (and other fast food restaurants) -'' Mcdonals is quality because you know what you're gonna get, period. they live up to their standards, if you don't like it you can always go somewhere else.'' he talked about my country lack of labeling when it comes to meat for example. Nobody really knows what they are buying and what quality it is. we don't have labels like Choice, Prime etc. In that sense what he said actually makes sense because mcdonalds have a strict standard on every meal they serve, so you know what you get.

The make your own burger thing was actually insanely successful in germany , we even had the "make them live" playoffs where you had to actually make it, the winning 8 people got a mcdonalds unlimited gold card and ONE burger was even in store for everyone for a while. its prolly because in germany, "mein kampf" is a bad joke , but a joke is all that it is and nobody loses their pants over it. i mean , fuck, that was mandated lecture for a while, we can take the pisser
