I highly recommend using your bare hands when applying leather conditioner just like he did, it helps you rub it in better, get it in the nooks and crannys and as a plus it also makes your hands nice and soft. True story the tip of my thumb was cracked pretty bad and after conditioning my boots the conditioner actually helped heal my cracked thumb.

Use the naked fingers for conditioners. Bick4 is my most used on foogwear that does not get abused. For those boots mink oil. Mink oil darkens leather. For crap work abused boots I want water staying out. Mink oil is about the best. Casual shoes and boots get the Bick4. It has to be applied more frequently because it is not a heavy oil, but does work well. I use it on all horse tack, saddles, bags, etc.

Fact. My cuticles crack and peel all the time when I get into sand or anything that dries them. Before doing lawn or woodwork, I always condition my boots by hand and then get a nice coat of Obenauf's leather conditioner rubbed into my hands before putting on my gloves.

He can recement the rubber outsole to the rubber midsole with Barge cement. Additionally he could use mini brass nails to secure it. The repair would cost less than 20 cents. The $900 is mostly for the shell cordovan and hand welting. The sole is composed of the welt -> leather midsole -> rubber midsole -> rubber outsole.

Great vid. I’ve got two pairs of Sagara boots myself, they’re phenomenally well made and a great value. I think they’ve got an ongoing discount with Stitchdown where you can get ten percent off. By the way, sole separation is super common for wedge soles and not indicative of poor quality- that middle layer of rubber is stitched, while the outermost layer is glued on. Easy fix.
