Why are you whispering at me?!
#ASMR is an acronym commonly used to describe the tingly/buzzing/static sensation associated with certain audio/visual stimulae - often whispering/soft-spoken voice, and other quiet triggers. It's a similar feeling to 'frisson' - the shivers that run up your spine when watching an incredible scene in a film, or really /feeling/ amazing music. It's the best.

I appreciate how this character calls out the mistreatment of women in Greek mythology and tries to steer you away from portraying a romanticized interpretation of it. I like that he's a great storyteller who clearly cares about the material and genuinely tries to inform you of things that might help push your (admittedly weak) arguments in a direction that might actually allow you to craft a decent essay. We need more professors like this guy.

One really cool modern use of a greek symbol is the rod of Asclepius. He was a minor deity of medicine and healing, that was said to have created a cure to bring back the dead, which angered Hades since he claimed their souls had already crossed into his realm and this belonged to him. Lot of hospitals and medical facilities still use his signature staff with two snakes intertwined around it as a symbol of healing and medicine, so not only has it survived into the modern era but it’s still maintained the same usage it would’ve likely seen back in the Greek era

Yes!! However! - the rod of Asclepius is in fact a staff with a single snake curled around it. The double snakes around a winged rod is actually the Caduceus - the symbol of Hermes ie. of commerce, thieves and travellers. The Caduceus is erroneously used as a symbol of medicine in loads of places (including the US Military) when in actual fact it should be a single snake around a rod as a medical symbol!

Me: puts on this ASMR to relax and fall asleep to Me, 5 minutes later: pulls out my old history notebooks and textbooks, glasses on, wide awake, having the time of my life ready to have a proper discussion and debate about Greek mythology because yes, I was that kid in school who cared more about mythology than current history. I always found that the legend of medusa could be seen in two ways. One in which Athena punished Medusa into becoming a gorgon taking her beauty and forsaking her for her sins, or rather the second that she saves medusa "cursing" her into becoming a gorgon so that no man may harm her again as she had been harmed by Poseidon, showing that the male gaze is punished for daring to look upon her beauty with ill intension

As an Australian who enjoys both ASMR as well as New Zealand and it’s mostly all lovely chill people, this is great. The familiar accent and turns of phrase makes it surprisingly comforting too!
