ASMR Hypnotic Tracing of a Map of Sweden while reading Place Names (soft spoken, Austrian accent)

Hey everyone! Today I'll use my pointer to trace a map of South Sweden and quietly read out the names of the places we pass by. This is a map I got from a neighbour and I loved following her itinerary from many years ago. There's something so relaxing, almost a little hypnotic in just following these lines across a map of a country that to me is very much foreign. I hope it'll help you fall asleep in no time! Triggers include a soft spoken voice with Austrian accent, reading names, and pointing and tracing on a map.
(Though I have to ask, what is going on with Swedish spelling??)

I didn’t realise there was a town called Husqvarna either, nor that the company of the same name makes sewing machines. I was aware that the company manufactured motorcycles and tools like chainsaws. The motorcycle company is now owned at least partially by Austrian company KTM. I’ve visited Sweden’s neighbours of Norway and Finland but only ever passed through Sweden’s airport at Stockholm. I think I need to take a motorcycle tour around Sweden one day. Thank you for another interesting and relaxing journey.

That's the first time I hear that Husqvarna makes chainsaws and motorbikes! I associate them exclusively with sewing machines lol. A bike tour around Sweden sounds great! Do it :)

The algorithm blessed me with your channel today, I really enjoyed this video so you’ve earned a new subscriber. I think you did a pretty good job with the pronounciations overall. There definitely are some weird names, like Växjö (where I live) - that one even trips up native speakers so I couldn’t possibly fault you for not getting it quite right.

These types of map tracing are my absolute favourite. I do love it when you go into more detail on the places and the history etc.. but saying that, when you just trace the whole time, it really helps my eyes to focus and those tingles from the lines you draw really help me to fall asleep. I just know this is going to be my new favourite video in my ‘watch later’ folder.

Loved this! Your pronunciation is almost sounding a bit like Norwegian. Maybe you can do the rest of Sweden as well? The names gets a lot trickier the further north you go!😁

Apart from the outlier Askersund this pronounciation is better than 95% of all other tries at reading Swedish I've heard from foreigners. The mistakes were often on gramatical exceptions, so you must have done your homework :). The "tounge root" R:s gives it a distinctly continental accent, but it is amazingly relaxing. Also, "Danish intimidates me" is such a vibe I burst out laughing when you said it out loud. The whole north agrees.

I tried haha. Learning Norwegian did help a little, I think, but there are definitely a couple of tricky place names! Danish sounds like I might injure something if I tried to speak it 😂

Im from Kristianstad. There is two way of saying it, the northern part of Sweden says what you said first and second, We who live here say.. lol Kri"juan"stad Say the Juan as you would speak spanish and call for a guy named Juan. The Danish king of Christian the 4th, named our town. And when Sweden got it back. They kept the name. However, it was spelled with a C back then. I loved this ASMR trace more than anything else ive seen. Thank you!

Ah I didn't realize that both forms were used in Sweden, but I guess with such an irregular pronounciation that makes sense. And now I've learned a little bit about Scandinavian history too! I'm really glad you like it! Thanks again for the suggestion :)

I will say that Sweden’s landscape looks a lot like the Canadian shield. I basically felt like I was home the while time.

I'm British but lived in southern Sweden for a time. I won't comment on specifics (as requested) but your pronunciation was mostly there. Sometimes certain consonant/vowel pairings in Swedish get pretty wild in pronunciation and that always catches people out.

Haha yeah I didn't expect all the sj, stj, skj, tj, kj...- I figured it'd be similar to German or Norwegian which is very regular for the most part. Then again, all pretty easy compared to place names in England!

In Denmark we call a Danish for Wienerbrød (Vienna bread). What do you call them in Vienna? 😁

Apparently it's called Dänischer or Kopenhagener Plunder, but I don't think I've ever seen that in a bakery. Pastries in general are called Mehlspeisen - "flour meals" 😂

Danish bakers learned much of their craft from Viennese bakers. The crescent or croissant was made by Viennese bakers who viewed the Turks and the crescent on their flag when Vienna was being attacked by 350 or so years ago. In the USA many people call the dessert a "croissant" which is French. I call it "crescent" which I also call that time of the month when the moon has that shape.

Beautiful. Very good pronunciation for a non swedish speaker. You kind of sound like a norwegian speaking swedish (norwegian and swedish is close enough to be mutually legible).

So relaxing, but i must brush my teeth first..help. I thought of your R, they are a bit different in some swedish words than how you pronounced them. And you got unlucky with the name Askersund, it is pronounced the way it is spelled with a real S and a normal K. But i think a dialect is more relaxing than when the person speaks his/her mother tongue, possibly because it takes time to form a sentence in another language than your own. And I am from Uppsala, home of the oldest Uni in Sweden and the biggest cathedral in the Nordic countrys.

Hey Lovisa, thank you for the kind and detailed comment, I appreciate it! And yes, R is generally a difficult sound for me - I'm always a bit bewildered that there are so many different ways to pronounce it. 😅 Hm I don't think it necessarily takes longer to form a sentence once you get to an intermediary level and have sufficient conversation practice (here I just speak a bit more slowly on purpose); I wonder if it isn't more to do with that little bit of distraction that you hear as a native speakers and the subsequent focus on something unexpected that can help you to relax into it. It's a good question!

@@MelangeASMR Yes i guessed you speak slower for the asmr part of it all. I think it is more relaxing when i hear you, moonlight cottage och Latte and gentle whispering (when she had her russian dialect) even though you speak English which is not my first language. Maybe it gets more interesting has you say, but who knows.
