My postbox was full of Christmas surprises last time I checked! This one is a set of maps that Adam, a subscriber from the US, sent of Tennessee and parts of Appalachia. A big thank you! It was a pleasure looking at this part of the world and I hope you all enjoy this relaxing trip to the Great Smoky Mountains with me.
Mishka was not really in the mood this time but I hope she'll join us again soon for the next recording session.

Thank you. Just thank you so much. I've been struggling trying to move to Tennessee, it's been an incredibly long tedious journey. Some night I want cry myself to sleep because it hurts so much. This state means so much to me. I hope in the end this long painful process will all be worth it. This is absolute therapy, peace and a haven for me right now. I can't even tell you. It came at the right time. Your my favorite peach on KZfaq, Mel. This is encouraging and uplifting at the moment . Thank you

Wonderful! I grew up on the opposite side of the country, so I really didn't know much about Tennessee, and you're right, it does look absolutely gorgeous there. Speaking of bears, we have them in my area as well, and I was always told to sing when I was out hiking. 😂Bears would prefer not run into us either, so if they can hear us coming, it's generally possible to avoid any trouble. If you're hiking with other people, which is safer anyway, talking rather loudly would probably work as well.

Omg I live here! In WNC, I can drive for 20 min and be on the Blue Ridge Parkway or 40 min up the mountains and be in TN. It’s a phenomenal place to live (but very socially conservative, even by conservative standards), and I can’t believe one of my fave YT creators is talking about our little slice of the world! I teach world history and often reference things I learned in your videos so it’s very neat to see this :)

And you said “Appalachian” correctly, like those of us local to western NC/east TN pronounce it. If someone says “App-uh-LAY-shun” it’s a dead giveaway they aren’t from here. Check out the Eastern Band Cherokee sometime, their reservation and Boundary abuts the Great Smoky Mountains Nat’l Park just south of Gatlinburg and Knoxville. It’s a fantastic place if you find the mountains gorgeous

I love how coming across bears seems to be almost normal there. We've only had a few bears come back somewhat recently in Austria and it feels like it's constantly an issue - and if not bears, it's wolves. I'm sure I would love it there, it looks so gorgeous!

@@Hailiums But you decided to be anyway. It’s okay to not be that guy, y’know? Especially since the native village after which the range is named is a ch and not a sh. Sh is just not accurate if we’re trying to actually respect the heritage, especially indigenous heritage.
@Hailiums
@Hailiums Жыл бұрын
@@parryyotter I did decide, but it wasn't out of malice. It's just the truth, and people often don't like being corrected when not asking for it. However, seeing as this is a public forum, there is no harm. And while the original pronunciation may have had a -ch sound. The -sh is perfectly acceptable, especially considering U.S. citizens hardly care for the respect of indigenous peoples and their heritage.

Pleasantly surprised. Did not expect to see you ever cover where I'm from in one of your videos 🙂 Edit- Also maps don't do the nature here justice. Just an example as an angler- Out east in the mountains we have native brook trout streams and the southernmost native muskellunge (like pike on steroids) population on earth, then you can follow the water all the way to alligator gar (and now ACTUAL alligators) in Memphis by the Mississippi River.

Also another book under a different author "That the Blood Stay Pure" is a great book on the nuances of this. It deals more with the nuances of one drop laws but it's great at showing how the American Indian Act and slave laws impacted the natives and people of color in the US
