One of my favorite things to do at National Parks Visitor Centers is locate the ink stamp(s) to stamp my tiny journal I have just for this purpose. I bought the journal here at The Grand Canyon before I knew the centers have such stamps. Thank you for reminding me to go back here!

I'm so excited for this video! My Great-Aunt has lived and worked in the Grand Canyon for as long as I can remember for the village school system. I can't even imagine waking up to that view every day!! The first time I ever went it was magical and I can't wait to go back.

I loved this. It was amusing to hear that Utah and Colorado weren’t “too far” from Arizona… everything is actually so far apart in USA compared to Europe. The drive between states is measured in days. Beautiful part of the world, geologically speaking. Thank you for the tingles!

We hiked the Grand Canyon South Rim Kaibab trail down and Bright Angel back up. The coldest, best, most delicious beer I've ever tasted was the afternoon we finished the hike and stopped in at the El Tovar Hotel. Your video brought it all back. Thank you!!

Fun fact about Washington, DC from a DC native: The city grid was planned by a Frenchman, Pierre L'Enfant, who specifically wanted to confuse the British on horseback if they ever attempted to invade the city (it mostly worked in 1812 iirc), which is where the diagonal boulevards and 8-point roundabouts come from! Legend has it that L'Enfant was so good at creating a confusing city grid, locals with cars and GPS still get lost in the city to this day 😂

It’s an interesting observation about distance and scale. I was struck by that when I came BACK to America after my first European visit. Especially when you travel the Midwest or South where there is much uninhabited space. You could go hours without hitting a real “town”. Traveling by train in Europe there are constant towns, actual big ones, so close together. It makes it feel strange like we are wasting this space and cramming everyone into cities. But I guess that’s why we have the American suburb. Indeed a distinct difference; not necessarily better just different. One thing that’s great about visiting Europe is just how much beauty and diversity you can see with just short distance traveling. Thanks for the interesting video. The Grand Canyon isn’t a destination I have visited yet but plan on trying in a year or two. Edit: Ice cream fountain is another term for a “soda fountain.” In the early to mid 1900s soda fountains were places like cafes or delis where guests would get a soda mixed (syrup and carbonated water) by a person called a soda jerk (no kidding.) later soda fountains added ice cream to their offerings and became popular spots for teens and families. If you think of the typical American 50s cafe where teens on a date would drink a milk shake together that’s a soda fountain. 😊 Ice cream fountains are basically just a reference to an older style cafe with lots of ice cream options like milkshakes, malts, floats, and sundaes!

@US and size/scale - have you ever considered to read or listen Kerouacs 'On the Road'? I think there are versions at least online showing route or places text and author sees, passes, visits at the moment narrated simultaneous.

The Colorado River runs through my town. Grand Junction , Colorado. It is called Grand Junction because it is the junction of the Gunnison and Colorado Rivers. But long ago the Colorado was called the Grand River. Hence the Grand part. Probably also why the Canyon is named so.

I took a few days to think over how to write this comment, came back after I found a good resource to include. I'm specifically trying to remember that I have an American perspective, which puts weights on certain words that non-American words don't carry, that the cultural context I exist in has little bearing on your context. It's also not necessarily my story to tell, I don't want to speak for others who are better suited to tell. I know the phrase American Indian is considered old-fashioned here, and it is often received as an offensive phrase. Something carried down by a legacy of erasure and 'convenient' labeling. It did jump out at me, I wonder if there are first nations viewers who also had it jump out at them. I'm trying to be careful in my words because I understand clearly you were not speaking offensively, and I'm not trying to be an ass, either. I spent a few days chewing my words, then I had this digital map shared with me through an email newsletter. At the very least, I thought you might find it neat to look through. native-land.ca/
