In this ASMR sleep story, I invite you to relive the mythical 12 labours of Heracles, one of the most popular myths of Ancient Greece. From Heracles' birth under the curse of goddess Hera to his redemption, we make a colourful travel around Greece and the Mediterranean Sea, and meet countless characters. Gods like Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, Artemis, or Hades; monsters like the Nemean Lion, the Hydra or the Cretan Bull; other characters like Eurystheus, Pythia, Chiron, Geryon, Atlas and the Hesperides.

@texas is bigger than france : yes they are interesting, but not really relaxing and I'm not sure many people would be happy to fall asleep listening to this at the moment ;). This is also why I keep my channel entirely free of coronavirus stuff; I don't think the people who come here need more of something that is already everywhere.

Your voice is smooth and smokey, if that makes sense. Its like silk, its cadence flows in such a way that its both relaxing and enthralling. Jean Reno-esqe honestly. Its only natural that you should do a video on french and american jazz clubs of the 20's and 30's.

I've actually seen the original Herc & the Nemean Lion statue at the Getty Museum. It's really quite breathtaking. There are traces of the paint that covered it still remaining, even after nearly 2,000 years

The labours were a great tool for Greek colonialism. They acted as a sort of religious justification for Greek claims in the western Mediterranean. Their colonial rivals, the Phoenicians, even got in on the act and reinvented Melqart as Heracles. Or perhaps Heracles was hellenized Melqart.

"Once upon a time..." I was just going to say "Yeah, Zeus did it more than once" when the next sentence was literally about Zeus' many affairs. Maybe except Athena who apparently was born out of Zeus' splitting headache. While it's not documented if Hera accused Zeus of masturbating too much to Oxford University's "The Philosophical Quarterly" before "giving birth" to Athena, we're forced to assume that she did.

According to Hesiod and Apollodorus, Athena's mother was Metis, whom Zeus swallowed to prevent Metis from bearing a son greater than his father as predicted by a prophecy. Instead of a son, Athena was the result, and she sprang from Zeus' head.

@@akaste9 So Zeus banged Metis as well? The books I read as a child glossed over Metis and just said Zeus was having the migraines of the century and at their peak Athena burst out of his head. And she's the goddess of war and wisdom. It's weird Zeus tried to challenge the prophecy in such a way since his father did the same thing and the prophecy still came true. So why did Zeus escape that prophecy? Unless he didn't because there was no prophecy, no Metis and he masturbated to "The Philosophical Quarterly" while throwing thunderbolts at his brothers' worshipers and Athena burst out from his brain, percolating with philosophical ideas and aggressive actions against an arbitrarily chosen target.

In the album (and animated feature) "The Twelve Tasks of Asterix" where Caesar challenges Asterix and Obelix to perform Hercules' tasks, one of the tasks is getting a permit but they need to file the correct forms and paperwork. They were served a relatable dish of bureaucratic hassle and administrative ineptitude. :D

For years we called him Hercules. Since I’ve been playing Assassins Creed Odyssey I found out it’s Heracles. Stupid US school systems teaching us wrong 😑. But I love this channel and thank you for all your work. I love history and ASMR

I may be mishearing, but when you’re discussing the Trojan war and heroes, it sounds like you said Hercules fought in the war and killed hector etc etc. Isn’t that Achilles? Just knit-picking while I’m falling asleep. I love your content and hope you have a great day!
