I blanched and dehydrated my fresh asparagus , and made asparagus soup ! I used butter to start with, then cut up onions, sautéed, then added garlic and small Pieces of mushrooms , mixed powder with cream well and added a little broth . Cooked till thickened , added cheese and fresh asparagus tips and oh my goodness ! I have found a new way to preserve my fresh asparagus. We have three big beds and I thought , “ what am I going to do with all of this?” Now I can have fresh asparagus soup any time Of the year!

@@katharvey7324 it costs in electricity three to four dollars each time for just to run one drying session in electricity with this machine, which means imagine using it every day what your electric bill will look like at the end of the month. But she probably doesn't care about that either because of the disposable youtube channel income... also you have to change the oil frequently on this machine if you are willing to understand you have a mini car in your house....not to mention several other maintainability requirements. If you dont have a youtube channel that brings you disposable money that allows you to buy unnecessarily expensive high investment, low payoff gadgets, then you can get away with it easily and have the same attitude to not care. People with disposable money usually dont care what things cost as long as they "want it"... im 52 years old and i am fully entitled to say this because I know both sides of the coin. Dont buy a freezer dryer, if you want freeze dried foods, go see Leisa Sutton at Suttons Days and start buying Thrive freeze dried foods.. you will be alot better off. And the investement pays off instantly, not over time in years which this freeze dryer will take 20 years to pay off. Save your money. The machine is absolutely worthless just because you want to play with your food.... invest your money in yoyr food .. you cant eat the machine when you lose the job.

I have 2 freeze driers for our garden. It does NOT cost $3-$4 per run. These units are 110 volt each. When compared to steam pressure canning on a 220 volt stove, heating the shit out of your house from blanching, then steam pressure canning for anywhere between 40-90 minutes under constant watch to not blow up the canner, then an hour or so to wait for the pressure to drop so you can take the jars out (7 quarts at max). Wash rinse and repeat. Our glass canning jars probably come very close to over 1000 lbs in shelf weight each season. The steam pressure canned goods are only good for 3-5 years max. Our freeze dried food is good for up to 25 years, and weighs next to nothing after being processed. We have wound down our pressure canning thanks to the freeze driers, and our electric bill has went down significantly over the last two harvest seasons.

Good for you, John. I am happy for you. Not everyone can afford a freeze dryer much less two of them. That is why we show multiple methods of food preservation. And the cost of electricity varies dramatically, so yes, in some places it does cost that much per run. Personally, I see pros and cons with freeze dried food and am grateful to have a choice of methods.

Have lots of food allergies. Try to buy organic. My food is very expensive and limited. I am not planning on freeze drying 24/7. Also, is there a biological issue with eating FD foods as a snack without rehydrating. I think it’s a great way to creat snacks without buying garbage snacks filled with chemicals.
