Knights of the Toxic God is one of the longest event chains in the game and one of the more interesting Origins to have come out in some time. Are you ready for a quest that spans an entire galaxy? A unique solar system that holds a secret? Will you hold your morale as Knights? Let's fine out.
ASpec's videos are based around the popular Grand Strategy Game; Stellaris as well as other fun science fiction properties. Delve into a galaxy that is both dark and full of secrets. This channel has tons of guide, overviews, musing and other content for you to enjoy in the semi-classic game review format. So stick around, grab a drink. Some of this content was heavily inspired by the likes of TheSpiffingBrit, RimmyDownUnder and GrayPlays. Other content is similar to that what you would find on let's play channels like The Yogscast.

my patch is get loads of live stock and servant slaves put them on the habitat and have 14 knights in 50 years making me 1k research then mod the slaves to take up little room and always be happy to put even more on

@@janedoe4929 I mean, it's a colossus-tier ship that doesn't grant the "End Threat" CB against you, so that's fun. That thing can also take a much bigger beating than a star eater or juggernaut.

Just started but at this point i want to keep the Order together, and the relic sounds like fun. Combined with psionic ascension and some other things, good potential synergy there, and roleplay a leader who would rather keeping their powerbase going.

Which is doubly ironic since in Age of Sigmar there's a Nurgle band of Chaos Knights calling themselves the Order of the Fly.

More like Knights of The Great Horned Rat but your Space Skaven just decide 98% of the way through that rather than forcefully ascending their Lesser God into a Full Chaos God and getting all the benefits deserved. They just turn it into a big nuke on wheels... Even though Ikkit and your empire already have much more powerful nukes on wheels.

From what I've heard, they can go two ways; the first is yes, Knights of Papa Nurgle. The other is the path of revenge on Nurgle for what he did to them.

If Horizon Signal was Paradox's take on Lovecraft's Mythos. Knights was Paradox's take on Arthurian Legends. Up until they decided that when the metaphorical grail is in hand and the holy quest is at its end. The noble knights forget the very reason leading them. Randomly deciding the grail would be better as a Brutish weapon. Rather than a thing of worship that would imbue themselves with its divine might.

When I met the trickster my knights were psychic so I was able to see it’s intentions as one of the options.

I have been going Cyborg as my knights because I have been starved for ascension perks. What does being psychic tell you about the trickster?

@@ducttapeanddreams it gives an option with the psychic symbol that tells you the true intentions the trickster has towards you. Don't want to say more than that and spoil it for anyone who hasn't played the origin yet.

Ah nice I really like the knight theme, it would be great if they could add other form of knights in the future. EDIT: maybe the knights can also have more unique interactions with spiritual empires--imagine space pope ask you to crusade, etc.

I really want a Imperium of Man "inspired" origin added to Humanoids. Maybe called "Knights of The Golden King." You start with a Chosen One ruler on a half Tomb Half Relic World. Have A game long quest built around turning your ruler into a Shroud God & waging *Grand Crusades* against other spiritualist empires if they worship the heretical & evil 4 shroud Gods who wish to enslave the galaxy. Maybe with unique interactions with The Zroni shroud being, you could see your empire as the inheritor of the good Zroni & their goal to rid the corruption feeding The Black Hole at the galaxies center. In worship & empowerment of the parasites called gods in the shroud. Maybe have it turn out the -chaos- shroud gods were the 4 strongest evil Zroni who ascended upon their death into false gods. Your ruler could be hinted at being the soul of the strongest good Zroni forcefully reincarnated into someone who could've been the most psychicly powerful member of your species to lead a great war against his fallen brothers.(playing into 2 old theories a, The Chaos Gods were Old Ones corrupted by The War in Heaven. B, The Emperor is the last Old One who saw the potential in humanity that only they had the indomitable will to fight endlessly for the hope of a better tomorrow.)

Ending bonus clarification. The Order's Castle from one of the endings is not the same as the one you start with, which is an Order Keep. The Keep also gives additional knight jobs per 10 population. Depending on the choices you take, there also is an option to make your knights also give a global bonus to alloy production.

Its silly if u get that and the stability from knights u can just do what i did give knights chemical bliss so they are always happy then put over 100 live stock and servent slaves on their the housing does not matter since slave especially ones modded cant migrate u dont care about their happiness and they produce that many amenities ur allways at 100 stability so u just get 15 knights early game making over 1k tech

I really hope we get more of these grand-esque questlines, really enjoyable. I wish they kept the quest going after finding out there's something way larger in the middle of the galaxy though. Would have been real sweet

Yes! I wish the other origins had situations, like Clone Army is fun and all but there's no story once you finish the archaeology and situation log research.

Hype it to shit. Then pull a ME3 & have it come down to merely two non choices that reflect none of the choices you've made, the grand importance with which you held the quest, or speed of quest completion. >Have the entire 3rd act of The Quest revolve around The Toxic God being a threat to the Gods of The Shroud & the main villain being their agent trying to stop his ascension into a 6th Shroud God. >Have The Toxic God's psychic abilities, goals, and prescience established from the get go where he literally gifted The Great Unifier King with visions of his coming and smote his enemies so the world could unite early and aid in his ascension to Godhood. >All of the divine abilities displayed by Toxy are completely forgotten at the end of the campaign completely ruining the mystery the world and the story had up until that point by making the prime instigator a mindless meaningless beast. >The writers do absolutely nothing with any of the story developed and have the entire quest end upon making your "choice" from two unfullfilling, unfitting, theme breaking outcomes. >Play up the grandness and power of Toxy the entire game, upon receiving access to his power. Have it be this overblown pathetic excuse for an enemy that when on your side is a subpar Colossus that can't even make the worlds it hits have the same powerful planetary features your homeworld has. Which could have given you the incentive to only buff the planetary blockers over the knights on your second play through if planning keeping Toxy that run, knowing the knights would receive a ending nerf. Once again removing any meaning to your choices. >Have the other alternative be far more thematically unfullfilling & nonsensical. But is 10× as powerful making it practically the only choice due to the massive hit your eco takes with the other. Buffing the shit out of your already insanely strong Knight's Stronghold & allowing you to make new ones, making only your choices to buff the knights really matter. Raising even more questions as to why the hell doesn't Toxy make every planet you Shoot with it gain the buffed planetary blockers while also buffing the preexisting ones even more? When the second ending is all about getting more buffs & buffed knights, so your choices could matter. >In an act of sheer stupidity. Upon finding this almighty & highly intelligent Half Shroud God, fulfilling your aeons long quest that drives your very existence. Have no text or communication instance activate. Be completely unable to talk go the God that even the 4 shroud gods fear the potential of. >Be forced to fight it even if you want to go the "good route" & don't even get the option to say, prostrate yourself in front of it. Offering to help it ascend into the 6th great and powerful shroud God that it's been barred from becoming by being locked away from the galaxy by the main 4. Which should be the true logical ending to the quest. >Have all special mechanics come from the origin. Adding not one single unique interaction between the origin & other mechanics Even when it logically would & should interact. Say like your Chosen One God King becoming The Avatar/Jesus figure of your empire able to launch Toxic crusades and Maybe even boosting the Knights & Blockers buffs, and speeding up the quest progression thanks to being empowered by his own Lesser God like strength and future sight. Oe Something like Consecrated Worlds which would fit down to the very core of the origin does nothing special at all. When it'd be perfect if it let the world's you've consecrated replicate the blockers specific to your homeworld if they weren't planning on letting worlds hit by Toxy copy the blockers. Maybe even causing Spiritualist FEs to awaken if you Toxically consecrated their Gaia worlds seeing your belief as a heretical disgusting twisting of the "true" faiths. >You're not even barred from making shroud covenants after taking Toxy as your Flagship even though it's literally something they've been trying to and unable to kill for hundreds if not thousands of years. >Have the divinity/half divinity of The Toxic God play absolutely nothing of a role in how your empire treats it or even first reacts to it upon seeing it. Acting completely disconnected from the past 6-8 hours of awe & grandeur every single Knight had held up until that very moment. It's just another enemy for you to kill now. >Completely ignore the potential of being able to form a unique covenant with Shroud Ascended Toxy getting unique blessings that interconnect with specific choices, like say giving specific boons depending on what was done. Maybe also able to summon shroud clones of him every 10 years or so to act as both Battleship & Colossus in battle. Even get special casus belli against empires that form covenants with the main shroud gods & Spiritualist FEs. Getting the ability to force the worship of Toxy upon other spiritualist empires so you can spread the faith and each empire this is done with making Toxy and his boons to you stronger. Making it so your chosen one God Emperor is uniquely blessed and acts as Toxy's agent in the natural world growing in power and benefits he brings the more post game side quests you fulfill for the wishes of Toxy. Holy shit way to kill all the amazing hype and passion you'd built up with fans by making such a beautifully crafted an intricate story end on such a bland and underdeveloped note. Its literally like they just gave up not even centimeters from the finish line.

I'm greatly saddened & disappointed they dropped the ball so hard with something so enthralling. Knights of The Toxic God had sold me 110% on Toxoids because of how enamoured I was the more I learned. How it fit my exact type of desired storytelling I'd long been wanting in stellaris. Only to see on the last day before release that while it had flawless outside. At its core it was a raw piece of meat. Completely undercooked and uninished. That saddened me deeply. I'll still get it in the near future. But I'm most disappointed with Paradox for fumbling so badly when crafting what could, and should have been the great stellaris story we've long desired to equal Horizon Signal in terms of writing quality.

@@adoboi4292 except it literally is bro. Its the thing that Toxxed your planet. You can "claim it's not" to keep the quest going. But that's futile, several characters in the plot directly point to it being the one and only Toxic God.

@@bobross9581 if you kill it, you later get a notification that says that toxic emissions were detected in the central black hole, pretty much saying outright that the REAL god is there beyond your reach. And that's all, it doesn't have any effect, no decisions, nothing. Because if Paradox has to do something actually cool with the story-centered origins it won't be paradox anymore

My toxic God despawned after I reloaded the game, and making it worse it spawned in my border where no one could get it. I've had to restart from scratch....

To clarify - there seem to be 3 rough paths to follow depending on the choices you make: - Make choices to boost unity production for your knights, making this an insane unity rush build (keep in mind that with extra funding event choice you get additional unity %) - Make choices to boost science production for your knights, making this an insane research rush build - Make choices to boost your homeworld/empire. Depending on the choices you make, you can have some insane empire modifiers (+?% happiness, +?% weapon damage, +?% strike craft damage, +?% growth speed) - all of these bonuses are empire wide. Also, if you are going for the achievement linked to this, you must not end the quest, and after killing the leviathan, you must choose to continue the quest and wait roughly 20 years.

I really like the Origin, and the bonus you get is just awesome. My only problem I have with it, is the fact that Squires feel a bit forgotten... the 2% Knight Bonus is ignorable in many situations. And the 2 Amenities also feel like a joke. Adding a bit more unity, amenities or higher Knight Bonus would probably be better. And by the way. In Quest 6 you can get 1.5% Global Alloy Production PER Knight. Which makes this my personal favourite Origin. Become the Crisis gets a totally new meaning, when you pump out more alloys than the rest of the galaxy xD

Ye i dont bother with squires because of that personally i just make housing districts then fill it with live stock and servent pops as they take the least housing provide lots of amenities and food allowing u to easy get over 200pop on the habitat

Doing a knights run now. Had a great start, a ring world system spawned next to my home world, the one with where you get the 3 slave pops. Now they fill in on my mining and food world, with army barracks. Made then the main pop to growth on those worlds and resettled my main pop to their worlds as needed for specialist jobs. Then I got the share relic world and another relic world next to each other 5 jumps away from the home world.

I am so disappointing with the endings. I wanted to team up with my toxic god, but I don't want to give up my knights to do it. That just makes no sense. :/

It's like forming a society whose purpose is to find the reincarnation of Jesus in the world, and they spend centuries looking for him, then they finally find him. Then most of them... Quit the job immediately after? It just doesn't make sense. They should want to stay around to protect him or serve him and help him bring about a better tomorrow or the end of the world or whatever. Having them all just say "aight, we did what we set out too, good job boys, seeya" is dumb.

Hmm. Now this is a tough one....I really would like to have that toxic planet killer, but disbanding the order and losing those bonuses is pretty steep price to pay for a superweapon.

I did upgrade my knights science output and then take the toxic good as ship (since by that time, I already was at the level of having most tech i need done). The knights don't dissapear then, but you get only half or so of them. Still even then they are strong option to boost up research of the rest of technology.

TBH I found the Toxoids release sus until I began playing it. Overtuned is off the chain. Toxic God is deeply fun. Toxoids is a species pack + event update + more. Worth it's price. Is it Distant Stars 2? No..but it never was supposed to be.

Idk if this is still accurate. So, I'm playing as knights of the toxic God origin right now. I'm somehow in year 2320 or something like that. So, beside a unique habitat, there is not much else to the gameplay. Sure, you have this special habitat with unique jobs, but otherwise that's basically it. Especially cause you can't build habitats at the start. And if you research tech to build new ones, they will be just habitats. Not like the unique one from the start of the game. Progress with quest as you want. Its rpg stuff and it should be up to you how to do it. Personally, I went with militaristic, authoritarian and religious (cause you know, I wanted to dive into rpg narrative of it). Choose empire type, and for civics it was barbaric disputer and philosopher king. And I got Bandit Kingdom as my nation's description 😅. Automated any worlds I colonized, and subjugated a lithoid nation (they wanted it). For now I earn like 800 credits, over 100 alloys. Neatly 1k unity and 7 influence. Rare materials are also kinda good for me. Btw. I just learned that you can trade consumer goods with that one Fallen Empire (sanctuary? The one with AI machines that have Capitol in ring world). Basically they give you a lot for consumer goods. And I mean A LOT. And one tip. If you stump upon a gate (portal) to other universe on one of your planet, send knights in. I got Psionic daemon pop that way. It helped me a lot

You can stack some fat science bonuses on these knights, I'm not sure how it compares to a more standard tech rush though. Just did a blind playthrough and got kind of a grab-bag of bonuses, but I'll be curious to see how it compares to other tech builds when I 'min-max' the Toxic God, lol. Shame you can only get 2 knights on all other habitats, and the ascension upgrade doesn't increase knight output, it's just a flat +10% regardless of ascension level.

I dont think that you showed how to build one of those order castles. I've pressed the relic, yet nothing happens. I can not see any decision to spawn a castle :(

I fucking wish. That would actually give a legitimate and interesting reason to keep it outside of wanting a weak colossus fused with a weak Juggernaut since it can't even make ships. Hell Colossi should have been able to defend themselves with rotating Perdition Beams and fleets of Strike Craft like weaker Juggs long before now considering they're just Death Stars.

so like, what happens if you lose your toxic god to another empire ? both before turning it to your side and after making it into a collosus ? does it like become a wreck ? does the other empire get it ? does it just go missing in action for a while ?

yup I had one where My annoying federation ai allie was doing nothing all a sudden they decied to send their fleets when usully they would never move like that to try kill toxic god thankfully they got mullered and I went in!

i like the knights but imo they're too weak. It starts you off on such a big deficit and then has that horrendous upkeep atached to it for the rest of the game. The knight jobs are nice and all but you are employing a shitload of essentially clearks to get them to these insane values. Pretty sure the origin is a loss accross the board, certainly so with the likes of overtuned available :D Cool flavour and everything, but i'd definitely like it to be stronger, or have more interactions attached, like a dragon slayer thing for going after leviathans and so on

Upkeep goes away as soon as you finish the situation. After that all the bonuses you have stacked make you unstoppable force. You just have to survive the early years. I like the long term gains, feels like I am achieving something.

@@123FireSnake Definitely not a "competitive" origin, if that's your thing. Maybe wouldn't take this origin to the hyper-sweaty multiplayer lobby, but in single player you can survive just fine assuming you don't start next to some purifiers...
