In this video I show you how I made the corded petticoat for my 1840s Greek court gown, the Amalia type costume. In the video I completely forgot to mention it, but I again have no evidence if the Greeks wore petticoats of this particular sort, but one can only assume they had something to support their enormous skirts. And this was the fashionable type in the 1840s. I also never seen a petticoat that was both quilted AND corded, that was a bit of artistic licence from my part, and I apologise. But it's quite pretty, isn't it? ;)

I think the quilting makes a fantastic impact. It really breaks up all the uninteresting forcing channels. There's an 1830s corded petticoat on my project list for winter and now I totally want to try adding in some quilting, as well.

How lovely to find a tutorial with no hysterical shreiky voices😂 I've been putting off making my corded petticoat because the tutorials I've seen this far have all said to use a zip foot, and like you found they just don't get close enough. I keep looking at mine and thinking about how much I hate ripping it all out when I prove myself right. And I looked at my cording foot, which I've never used and thought that it wouldn't cope with the cord being thicker than the channels. So thank you. You showed me that it would work and I'm about to stop dithering and get started! I've only hand corded before, I live in Dorset ( home of Thomas Hardy) and the traditional bonnets worn by women working in the fields were stiffened with hand sewn cording... having made a few I couldn't bear the thought of handsewing petticoats!

I absolutely love this, I just found your channel and its a shame that its not well known yet, however I'm more than sure it will be. I have such an interest in the Balkans and its fashion history however I've never been able to find anything out. This is a great series and the info you provided in the photoshop episode will be enough for me to go into my own research!!

@@AspiringCostumeDesigner I only have a black one now (Buddy) who doesn't tolerate anyone but me, sadly. Means he must be put away when I have company😩

A quilting foot would have been easier so you could have done free arm quilting
