As a Japanese, I'm mad that Ubisoft and IGN are altering our history making Yasuke the retainer for 15 months into a "legendary samurai". Yasuke did nothing. He never fought in battle fields. Just swinging around his short sword at Nijo Gosho doesn't make him a samurai nor hero. If Yasuke was really fighting to protect his lords, he would have died fighting like Mori Ranmaru. Instead Yasuke SURRENDERED. A legendary samurai surrendered when told to hand over the sword? What a joke. You guys have no idea what samurai is about. You guys have no respect toward Japan and its history and culture. More and more Japanese are getting mad at you guys for changing out history and culture. This is total cultural appropriation and history falsification. Utter cultural colonialism.

Okay, I'm all for hating on Ubisoft, but this is how it's always been, they open up for pre-orders and do a 10-40min gameplay reveal a couple weeks later at the next event/opportunity, it's not them being arrogant, most people put off pre-ordering until after the gameplay reveal anyway.

Fun fact: Yasuke while a real person, was very much not a powerful nor influential samurai in any way. In fact, there is zero historical evidence that he was ever a Samurai. Instead, he served as a page/servant to Oda Nobunaga, who kept him around to surprise guests because most Japanese people at the time had never seen Africans before. Yasuke also only spent 3 years in Japan, so this portrayal here is based on complete and utter fiction

They said you can switch characters any time. If you imagine GTA V system where you seamlessly jump between characters' POV, you're probably wrong. It's Ubisoft, guys. One character will just magically transform into the other with some Animus effect or something. Remember the lazy chain assassination from Mirage where Basim just teleports.

Yasuke was not a Samurai. Guy was a retainer, a servant. Nobunaga kept him by his side due to his fascination with his skin color and his height. He only stayed in Japan for about 3 years and disappeared. All the crap about him being a samurai is based on fiction.

He was just a swordbearer for Nobunanga. He also kept him as a bodyguard since Yasuke was 6'5". There's no historical evidence of him fighting any battles. His only importance is that he was a tall black dude in feudal Japan tbh.

William Adams (Miura Anjin) was an English navigator who sailed with a Dutch trading fleet to the far East and landed in Japan in 1600. He became a vassal under the Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, was bestowed with a title, lands and swords, and became the first SAMURAI from England.....historically a white Englishman.

Fans are not upset about Yasuke. Yasuke is great. Some fans are upset with Ubisoft for choosing Yasuke, and here’s why. Let me explain. AC1: Syria - fictional Syrian man AC2: Italy - fictional Italian man AC3: America - fictional Native American man AC4: West Indies (Colonies) - fictional Welsh man AC Unity: France - fictional French man AC Syndicate: England- fictional English Man and Woman AC Origins: Egypt - fictional Egyptian Man and Woman AC Odyssey: Greece - fictional Greek Man/Woman AC Valhalla: Norway/England - fictional Norse Man/Woman AC Mirage: Iraq (Baghdad) - fictional Iraqi man Now Ubisoft finally decided to create a protagonist based on a real person from Japan, yet they selected an African. No hate on Yasuke but fans expected to play a Japanese Samurai in AC that is set in Japan. That’s what upsets some of the fans.

If Yasuke were a famous samurai in this period, his portrait would exist. However, there is no portrait of Yasuke. This means that he was not famous. There is a portrait of Anjin Miura (William Adams), even though he was a foreigner.
