People seem to forget that this trilogy has been about the origins of the Assassins and their ideals. Origins saw the origin of the first brotherhood, Odyssey was about the Assassin ideals and this will see the Templar’s and Assassins fighting for the first time

This footage is actually from April... They record this a couple of months prior...it is still a work in progres... And although the marketing doesn't have much 'assassins creed' features, darby confirms there would be tons of Assassins lore in the game.

Which isn't a bad thing. Great games copy from each other. Witcher copied from Skyrim. Uncharted from Tomb Raider. TLOU from Resident Evil. So on.

To be fair, this is a work of progress graphic wise. This was also pre-recorded months ago. So the textures probably look way better now.

I don't really know why they didn't reveal the story of this game. Maybe that is the major plot point that they decided not to reveal at all in this gameplay reveal. Basic story reveal that the directors did back in the trailer reveal interview was that Eivor goes through some "event" related to himself (or maybe his settlement) that effectively aligns his ideologies by the middle/end of the game with the Hidden Ones at the time. This in turn starts laying the foundation of the modern day Assassins Order that we see from AC 1 (set about 200 years after this game ends) at Masyaf and Jerusalem. He was given the Hidden Blade early on by the Hidden Ones but he never decided to fully commit to it and cut his ring finger off (early versions of the blade before Ezio's), but then that "event" is when he effectively commits to it.

For smaller games it is understandable that you can make the graphics look better. This looks a slightly better than Odyssey. But the world of Horizon Zero Dawn is so much smaller than Odyssey, that it is easier to make the game look good. Unless you want the game to be 200 GB and see what it did to Modern Warfare.

What I will say is the cutscenes in the game will probably be much like the original trailer. And most of this trailer is side quests/non major missions where facial animations are toned down but this trailer zooms in on, except later on when they say about characters you’ll meet and the graphics are dramatically improved.

Obviously you haven't played Odyssey :) This is 2-3 layers building upon it (Building settlements, improved weapon system, Assaulting fortresses(Shadow of War anyone?!)). Good that they brought the blending in mechanic from earlier assassin's creeds. Sea battles -check, leveling up - check, Item and Hero stats - check, Hack and Slash RPG feel - check, Bird - check, Mythology creatures - check ,level locked areas - TBC. It was very much expected to have a third major mythology RPG - first Egyptian, then Greek, now Norse. I am guessing/hoping Asian/Japanese would come next.

To do that, every game for awhile would have to have little-to-no presence of the Assassins at all ^Has it done that? No. Has it had some odd ducks that weren't traditionally Assassin-heavy stories that were still great games (good at worst)? Yes. So even if Valhalla is one of the latter, that doesn't mean it's lost all connection to the franchise lol; that statement is really, really pushing it (especially since it's based only upon the gameplay, rather than the story that we have yet to see a lot of, which is the REAL power behind such claims. Duh :P)

Problem with older assassin's creed is that the games are too easy, go behind someone, stab, leave, no fun, no point in strategy.

@@0verdead nope, in the past games combat was more of a batman deflection system, where if you deflect right, its an insta kill on almost any enemy because there are no level system, in the new ones you try to go on fully open battle against a group as big as one in the first ones, and you're mostly dead depending on the characters levels, your lógic of dificulty seens to be different from the average player, thats all.

While gameplay wise, it is nothing like good ol' Assassin's Creed, it ties in story wise, which is why Ubisoft bis still using that moniker. I'll keep an eye out for this one

Ac died for me with ezio and desmond. (Seriously hate layla right now as well, to the point I hope she gets killed in valhalla. Shes so bland and I hate replacement culture.) But kayla is the only major thing wrong with the new installments for me. Got back in at syndicates since it didnt deal with the kenway drama. Enjoyed it. That said I had origins for a year before trying it and I found myself enjoying it more then I would and it got me back into ac. Glad for that cuz I loved the history meets mythology meets meme worthy protag (alexios). Loved most of it to a fault. (Minus Layla obviously and how they made her an unwanted chosen one character)

Barely a visual upgrade over odessey, it's gonna be a bland rpg adjacent game. However, this is the first game in the new era to feature social stealth and hence is closer to the original AC

I am hoping it atleast progresses the main storyline,the modern-day events, which has pretty much taken a backseat in the past few games...but unfortunately, by the looks of it, they seem to be focusing only on the vikings story

@@hitmaniac the modern story is of list interest to me especially after they shoved layla down our throats. The less we have about that the better. Most people hate those jarring immersion breaking events. Especially after desmond. (With desmond you felt like you were progressing with him as he learned how to be an assassin through the animus. Then he kinda just dies. And on top of that you get this half baked useless excuse for a 'chosen one'... and you have to deal with it? I would rather have played any of her party members then her. If the game ever comes to a conclusion I hope they atleast let us customize a new character than be stuck as layla.

Textures look off.. graphics mediocre.... water/wind physics very static ... assuming its work in progress, it will be fixed at launch... Not sure if its going to be released in 2020.

They should just make a new IP with rpg elements. This isn't really assassins creed anymore it doesn't feel very stealthy at all. I want a proper AC game set in the middle east again or china where their where actual assassins. Plus those vikings are terribly inaccurate compared to their real life counterparts.

Don't worry, the directors have tried to tie in the story with this one at a full circle. They casually mentioned it to be "an end of an era" game in an interview. Can't say nothing about vikings since I'm no expert. They probably took many artistic liberties on that segment since all the history we know about Vikings is only via the records from the invaded countries like England and a few others which are bound to be written in a negative intent than what we see actually see in the UK. Almost the entire "East Anglia" of current times have their names derived from Nordic origins so they probably went with that premise.

So this is what is left of Assassins Creed, just a charater with a Hood for the name's sake. Not even a remote mention of Assassins, nor Templars. Just launching a game with AC title for sales. Dont get me wrong, the game is great, but it deserve to a seperate standalone game rather than ruining the AC franchise. Hope I'm wrong at has something serious about Assassin's lore. I'm a huge AC fan, played all of em, but now what remains is just a Title without the soul.

Odyssey is more beautiful but valhalla is more meaningful...though after 80 hours and like 60 more it get's bit of a bore. Somehow odyssey was that just fun...and beautiful though not much content really

This is the game based on the SAME engine and mechanisms from the last 2 in this series. Really disappointed. Not gonna play it. Ubisoft still haven't learned their lesson.

I completely agree. This game looks EXACT same like Origins and Odyssey. I'm am just disheartened by seeing this. I mean come on! Look at Syndicate and Unity. Despite the bugs in Unity in 2015-16, the game looked WAY BETTER than this game. Syndicate was an improved version of Unity. I get that for Origins, they chose a different engine but at this point, Ubisoft has become a cash grab centre. The recent Ghost Reckon was so buggy, glitchy, repetitive and filled with micro transactions that the game got really bad ratings from both critics and gamers alike. But looks like Ubisoft still haven't learned their lesson. Quality > Quantity. Learn from other game companies like CDProjektRED and Rockstar Games, Ubisoft....
