@Pousinboots its called the '' MOLLE II PANEL MEDICAL BAG'' its a panel with two long mesh pockets and has two 1 inch female buckle and a webbing carry handle. I'm not sure if it can interface with the assault pack. Adding to my confusion is that the same item is sometimes also called "MOLLE II INSIDE POCKET REMOVABLE". I have two of the panels with different names on the labels but the same NSN. Edit. It was meant to be used in the MOLLE MEDICAL BAG. They came in a set along with a few other medic specific items. However I'd be interested to know if like many of the other items in the MOLLE II system, if it was intended to be used with the other packs if needed.

I find it all pretty good gear. well made, and very useful. I just need to find myself one of these small assault packs. As a former Paratrooper myself, and JM. I keep coming back to this video as a refresher whenever I need an idea on how to setup my assault pack. I picked one up at my local surplus shop for $30 that was made in 2004 in the Three Color Desert pattern. Really cool when I found a bunch of used wipes and MRE wrappers in it. I've been on and off when it comes to the plastic shielding and I found it's just more comfortable without it. As an everyday carry pack, it's been serving me well. As for the sides, I have a canteen pouch attached and it works well. I have to say that the MOLLE pouch is a huge improvement from the ALICE pouch, even though this system is just pure nostalgia for me since my father served during The Cold War and Desert Storm. Very informative video!

So many needed answers in a short, concise video! From the time that I was issued the DCP then UCP versions of the MOLLE II kit, no one in any of my units could explain the details of the Assault Pack, especially the internal straps. All questions were answered with "figure it out", and we did, but little things such as adjusting the strap for the 6-magazine bandolier, would have been good to know back then. If your NCOER does not include "Promote ahead of peers to SMA ASAP", then it damn well should, and anyone signing in the Rater/Senior Rater/Reviewer that says otherwise should be relieved unless they are producing quality instruction at this level or better!

The compression strap still does not extend far enough towards the center to fit the sustainment pouch attachment properly. It just seems that it was not really designed for it. Excellent video! I feel like some things are missing (others below have mentioned the 4-channel PALS webbing on top, or alt. ways of attaching sustainment pouches) but I've been wanting a decent (and recent) video on attaching the pack to the rucksack. The TMs are something but videos should be the way to go in the modern military for some soldiers. Been in since 2020, deployed to Afghanistan in 2021 (was there for the withdrawal) and the Assault Pack was barely used by anyone anyway with our Natty Guard pogey CRAM mission. Most people just attached one of those USO pouches to the top webbing or the side, lol.

I've been thinking about getting a larger backpack for a while, and the MOLLE II Large Rucksack and the MOLLE II Assault Pack combined offer more than double my current pack capacity(Current is ~40L, give or take). Add the Sustainment pouches(to the Large Ruck), the waist pack, and other gear, and this seems like a no brainer, even for a civvie like myself. Plus, I would have the option to use the MOLLE II gear the way it was designed, on top of the extra storage for hiking, camping, or even transporting clothing and gifts.

I think that adding the Canteen pouches to the sides would come into some good use. You can carry and use them as canteen pouches or GP pouches. even loading up more mags (LRS-D) back in the day. Crazy thing is for GW1 in 91. I didn't have a proper military assault pack. So I found an EASTPACK that was forest green and used it. The bottom straps can also be used to attach the ocp Fanny pack to the pack. The strap spacing is identical

You’re right, it does fit. You’re talking about attaching the Waistpack by the MOLLE attachment straps to the PALS Webbing on the bottom of the Assault Pack. It works! However, they show to attach it to the Assault Pack the way I demonstrated. So I prefer showing what’s the intended design. In this configuration, the buckles remain clipped in. You access the Waistpack by opening the slide fastener.

one thing that I wonder is using the compression straps on the side could you secure the sustainment pouch better?

Great video. You should submit an change with picture to manual to correct the issue. Every Co/PLT should have a SOP on how and were everything goes in the main and assault pack. The units I have been in had that (82nd ABN Div, 101st Abn Div (Assault), and 5th SF Group (Abn). The Platoon Sergeant/1SG make the SOP, the head trainer in the company is the 1SG then his Platoon Sergeant. If a soldier don't know something the NCO would ensure they knew the answer in a reasonable amount of time. I know things change I been out since 2002 all my leader was veteran of Vietnam and Korea War. I notes one of the comment (@siguesputnik6861) said, his NCO would say, "figure it out". Something can and should be figure by the soldier but, the NCO should follow up to ensure its right.

First and foremost, thank you for our service. As a civilian who uses milsurp gear for various activities, it's great to have experienced personnel clearly explaining how to properly deploy these items. I also enjoy the fact that you cover not only the "book" but the real life use. Keep up the great work.

keep the foam. You can you it as a pad in your boots or padding for a splint.

I remember being issued similar equipment in ACU, and yeah, I never knew how it was supposed to work, and now that I do know how it was supposed to be used, I understand why no one ever used it like that. LOL.

As a former medical corpsman (old MOS 91B-new MOS 68W), I would be interested in how the MOLLE systems integrate with the current aid bag.
