The old man carried a Browning HP in the ‘80s and during Desert Storm flying F-14s. He always thought it was better to have 15rds of 9mm in the magazine rather then the 7 you got with the .45 or 6 you got with the .38special. After Desert Storm and up until GWOT, he carried an M9 in the cockpit.

Was he modifying the mags? All High-powers came from the factory with 13rd mags from inception until production stopped. The new copies from Springfield Armory come with 15rd mags. That's the first I've ever heard of 15rd mags before a few years ago.

Gentlemen, thank for your history lesson. I am 70 yrs old. I worked for the Army for 43 yrs, 6 months and 19 days. I never heard a shot fired in anger, until I was a civilian with the Army and then it was at a distance. If I were lucky enough to win the lottery of life again, I would love to do 30 yrs with a SEAL team, if I could make it through training. I would join the Navy and just keep trying to be a SEAL until I made it, if they would let me. When I worked for the Army my issued hand guns were the 1911, S&W Mdl 10 .38 Spl revolver, M11 (Sig P228) and the M18; however, before we were issued the M18 we were allowed to carry our own guns and I carried a P320 Compact RX with a Romeo 1 optic. I truly envy you your careers and sincerely thank you for your service to our Constitution and to our Freedom.

PSP had basically all but adopted the 320 when it went off on camera in an investigator's safariland holster designed for the firearm. On camera. PSP tried to talk to SIG about it and got a canned response. No PSP trooper can carry the 320 on or off duty due to SIG basically telling them to go fuck themselves. They went with the PDP instead.

The issue with the 320 is that it's not holster safe. That's the issue. They can get away with shitty Indian steel and shitty polymer since the shit materials are still good enough, but the fact that it needs a manual safety to be holster safe is unacceptable. Just put a little Douglass on the trigger like damn near every other striker fired handgun has so a noodle limbed kid can't set the gun off by kicking a holster, and it's on par with glock. Or steal from old Walther, and make the the thing a DA/SA striker. It would give them the opportunity to add an SCD stock to the slide so you get the best of all worlds.

I wasn't a fan of the M9, I carried one for years in the Navy I got plenty of time with it, I absolutely hated the slide mounted safety/decocker. I got to a point where there was no one in any of my units that could beat my score with it. When I found the Taurus PT92AF I was sold on it immediately. It's better ergonomics, better sights, better frame mounted safety, came with a light/laser rail years before Beretta offered one, plus it has 17+1 capacity instead of 15+1 for the Beretta. Now they've finally put out the X series with the frame mounted safety so that's the only Beretta I would consider owning. I got to work with the jump master (Taz) at Team 5 for awhile I enjoyed my time working there.
@seanmcmanus9656
@seanmcmanus9656 27 күн бұрын
It's for sure waaaay less natural. I will say, I still own a few that aren't just decokers, and I carry em in safe because flipping up is second nature (once the vertec frame came out, I was sold, as my biggest gripe was the hump you couldn't delete vs a 1911 grip angle) as I decided the 92 was worth the slide safety. It made me very happy to choose that philosophy when the px4 came out lol. That thing ruined me for the striker trend. I can't shoot normal muzzle tilt guns for at least a few hundred rounds, if I've been sticking with fixed barrel and especially rotating designs. It's not a gimmick, the damn compact is the easiest thing to shoot. I have small hands but long hands. Skinny and long 😂. Once the 92xi compact came out, and now the squallo. I have no reason for a 2011. I save my money for cz and girsan. My favorite 1911 is a damn single stack 4.2in girsan with fiber optics and buttery smooth controls. Taurus makes a compact 92 frame mounted now btw.

At the age of 15 I was rebuilding 1911s and Hi Powers for the government at a machine shop. We also made auto sears for AR15s. Enter the Beretta 92 and the FOPA machinegun ban and we were shutdown. I carried my Hi Power hammer down in the weeds. I also put ring hammers on my Hi Powers. I tried out a lot of pistols and finally went with a Sig P226 & a 228, after the Hi Powers. I had a S&W 5904. It was like toting a brick around. I can shoot the Hi Powers about the best, just because of how long & how often I have shot them. Anything under 15 or 20 meters, and I don't even need the sights.

I'm one of the weird people that like the M9. I went in in 1992 and first qualified with the M9 in 1994, carried it till Retirement in 2012. I had a personal 1911 when I first shot the M9 and fell in love the M9. I loved the ability to go single or double action. I loved the de-cocker (way better than riding a hammer down on a loaded pistol). As far as the safety goes, it just wasn't an issue for me. I can flip a safety off or on just as quick on an M9 as I can on an AR. I now have an M18 as my main "combat hand gun" and the safety is very similar the M9, a Non issue. And as a Civ now. If I dont wanna use it I dont have to...But I do. Only Reason I didn't go with the Beretta M9A4 was price.

Ya know that same bullett technology that has brought 9mm up to an effective caliber today has also been applied to .45acp. Just did some testing a fewweeks ago... 9mm 124gr hst expanded to .69.... 45acp hst expanded to .94. 9mm winchester ranger t plusp expanded to .65.... 45acp ranger t plusp expanded to 1.04". So basically a modern 9mm hp will expand to what early 90s 45s did.... but modern 45s are absolute golfballs. 1" inch slugs looking for a home. I carry a glock 19 but i shoot my 1911 more and am better with it and it stands as my bedside gun next to the ar. Pistol bulletts only destroy the tissue they come into contact with so the bigger heavier bullet the better. Tradeoffs. capacity, shootability, skill etc etc. pistol and caliber selection is a personal choice, but as someone whose recently gotten into 45 and was always a 9mm guy... i can respect what the 45 brings to the table.

Same here, but some can't handle the recoil of a .45. We had guys in my company who were horrible with the 1911, but when we switched to the M9, they qualified expert. 3-4 on target beats 1 on target and 2 in the atmosphere. 👊🏾🪖🇺🇸✝️

Been saying this since the “9mm is as effective as larger calibers” trend started around 2016/2017. Never made any sense and your logic is spot on. The other thing I love is “kinetic energy doesn’t matter”. Well, if that was true every 9mm fan would be using a .380 to save weight and add capacity. As time goes on it becomes more apparent that the industry has definite trends to maximize revenue.

Something I've been kinda geeking out over myself is the 10mm auto. It's projectile size is just under a .41 magnum and it's velocity and foot-poundage is akin to a .357 magnum. As someone who grew up shooting .357, I'm quite pleased to find an autoloader cartridge with the same oomph to it. Plus a 15-round magazine of 10mm is almost like having two and a half cylinders worth of .357 magnum. Last I checked, there's only one or two loads of .357 mag in existence that can pull more velocity or ft/lbs than a 10mm load, and it's a negligible difference.

The US never signed The Hague Convention prohibiting the use of expanding bullets. And some DOD JAG handed down a legal opinion prior to Desert Shield saying that the Sierra Matchking bullet is not an expanding bullet. It’s designed that way for aerodynamic performance. Now pistol JHP’s are on a whole different level. Regardless it’s nice that we can use them. It’s way more humane. And we’re all about humanity.

You know it's funny. In the seven years that I've owned two P-320's they never have seen to go off except for when I pulled the trigger. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but one is sitting on my desk and hasn't seen fit to go off on it's own.

@@tacticalhyvecadre1049 So basically, when quite .45 was wanted, but not worried about leaving obvious US .45 brass behind right...What did most the team guys thought on it or Dorrs thoughts that would be liked. Not sure if they ever used 220s or 30s .45s too. Also, didn't Dorr allude to he knows 2 .45's even 230 FMJ ball to chest can get a quick reaction, and weren't they also using 185+ Hollows as well in WOT at times & Bin Laden Raid...
