@@M5PerfHydros I cannot wait for the deck sheeting video in the future. Thats why my kit is a unskinned frame still... I built it like a airplane with superglue. I'm probably going to start over after watching this. 1/6.66th Gas Scale Newton 158/ MHR 8700 Extreme Kit Go big or go home for my first wood boat. I also have questions on 1/6 gas driveshafts, square drives, adapters, props stuffing boxes engines ect. Thanks for all the help. I watch all your goofy video. Love it!

... And the reason that model boat engine crankshafts rotate counter clockwise (looking at the flywheel/prop) is because the model boat engines were first based on model airplane engines. Model airplane engines rotate that way because most people are right handed, and it's much easier to flip the prop in a counter clockwise direction.

Scott - Somewhere in this video (?) you mentioned that you're looking for source for 3/16" triangular bass wood sticks. I did a internet search and found none, so I made my own on my tablesaw, a 40 tooth finish plywood blade, and a 3/16" x 4" x 24" bass wood sheet (this is what I happend to have handy - but longer 36" and 48" long boards are available on-line) . I ripped the sheet (or board?) with the blade angled at 45 degrees, then adjusted the fence, then ripped it at 90 degrees, and repeated this (alternating) process untill the sheet was gone. This should save a little weight.

... and where the stick passes through the square holes in the bulkheads, use your razor saw to cut 1/2" or 1/4" pieces of the triangle stick, and add them to the square holes where the triangular stick passes through the holes in the bulkheads (two triangle shapes make a square).

Awesome! I guess now I need to buy a table saw. Like, subscribe, share, click the ads, buy something you don't need, and maybe, someday decades from now, I'll earn enough from all that stuff to buy a blade, and that's a start!

One thing... Don't fill the square hole, it's just a guide. Save the hassle and leave the opening for additional drainage. Dang man now I gotta build a whole new boat!

I know it's beyond the scope of this series, but I would love to have a walk through of how you make your cowlings from start to finish. You're always dropping the "I've got a mold for this", but I've had that itch in my brain wondering how that process goes from designing, to the blank, to making the master mold, then using the mold to make the final product.
@M5PerfHydros
@M5PerfHydros Жыл бұрын
Hmm, I think I could do that. Do you have a particular boat or cowl you'd like to mold?

@@M5PerfHydros To be honest, at this point I've no clue. I'm currently 75%~ish through building a zipkits mono (first build, and it'll be my first intro to racing boats). I'm still playing it by ear a bit, as I'm not sure what the turnout looks like for district 19 for the different classes. But if you've got a suggestion, I'm all ears. I appreciate you being so willing to share your ideas and processes. You're really making the hobby feel a lot more approachable to me. Prior to finding your videos, building a hydro of any kind seemed a daunting task.

OMGosh Scott, I follow all of your great videos. I am unable to monetarily build a boat shop like yours. So I am living a dream through you. I am in ERCU and would like to build a ML boat works 1/6 scale into a 1/7 scale that turns left. I realize mods will have to be made like the Eliminator to be legal. Can I just reverse the pieces in the kit to make it turn left?

IT REALLY SHOULDN'T BE THAT DIFFICULT TO GET SOME LONG DOWELS A TAKE THEM TO A PLAINER AND MAKE THE TRIANGLULAR RODS. RIGHT? OR POSSIBLY MILL THEM. NOW THAT IM THINKING ABOUT IT, THERE MIGHT EVEN BE A ROUTER BIT FOR CUSTOM TRIM THAT WILL MAKE THE SHAPE. IDK FOOD FOR THOUGHT
@M5PerfHydros

Ya I've thought about that. Tricky to hold such small material while shaping, but I'm sure I could figure it out. Maybe you'll see it in a video one of these days!
