PLEASE SEE MY WEB SITE FOR DIAGNOSTIC PACK at thoroughperformance.com
My name is Christian Langeder from thoroughperformance.com . I am an equine soft tissue therapist specialising in the physical care of performance horses. I have been treating animals since 1999.
I work with horses in all manner of sport including Racing, Eventing, Dressage and Polo. Some of the horses I treat include Cranbourne cup winners Blue Collar Jack and Boom N Zoom, 2011 Perth Cup winner Guestwing, 2010 Mumm Stakes winner Status symbol. In Dressage, Cipriani, Mayfly, Avignon IV and AEA Metallic are among some of the Prix St George horses in my care.
My work is influenced by Bowen therapy (Fascial Kinetics), Emmett (EQUUS Muscle Management), Hatchards Way and my own experience of 13 years, it is based on fascial and muscular manipulation and the nervous system. It is very gentle and non invasive although extremely effective for treating physical soreness or restrictions.
After treating horses for many years I realised that not many owners knew if their horses were sore, they only knew that they felt "off". When speaking to my veterinary colleagues and trainers I found that they also weren't clear on how to simply assess a treatable soft tissue injury or restriction. I would like to share some of these with you in this video series.
In this physical care of performance horses video from thoroughperformance.com I'm demonstrating how to assess soreness in neck, rear of withers and girth as well as treating the soreness issues found. I also introduce releases (the horse's reactions to muscle release) like yawning, licking, chewing etc. These signs indicate that a group of muscles has been successfully treated and the horse is no longer in pain.

So take five minutes now to go check out your horse's back for muscular soreness using my reaction points and come back and drop me a line here to tell me what you found.

Thanks, I used to worry about the horses response, I love to see them give me a reaction. Actually, now I know what I am looking for, They often don't react so much even if I fix their issues. It is nice to see though. When you know what pain reactions to look for, the less I worry about their emotional response. Glad you liked the video... :-) C

@@langederequine Music can be tough to choose and many youtubers end up putting very generic background radio-like "noise soup" on their vids, so it needs a bit of creativity to deviate from that and I think here it is perfect, it sounds like the harmony or flow you probably have with the horses. Keep up the good work!

Great video thank you. My horse flipped over playing and is not himself. Chiro adjusted shoulder but he still appears to be uncomfortable so trying to learn as much about body work as I can. Vet of course, teeth, saddle fit, farrier and all that of course is checked as well. Thank you for this!

Kind of, I am using nervous receptors in the superficial connective tissue to short the muscles out. I am also manipulating Fascia and resetting the golgi tendon organ and the spindles in the muscles. Hard to explain but looks simple.

I love your videos, especially the two ones where you treat the dressage horses. I know these techniques a little on humans and it always works such wonders. I wish more people knew about this. The horses give us so much and when they are sore, I would like to be able help them. Your videos really make me want to learn this.

My horse has never been lame and started having a lot of trouble in the hind end. Through message she showed some improvement. A vet who does chiropractic work suspects a pinched nerve in the right side of her neck. Have you ever encountered this and have you been able to treat it with a full recovery? She's not rideable. A 10yr old talented 4H horse for my daughter. 1 awesome yr with her and now this:(

Hind end is usually lumbar soreness, but any lameness, you should see a vet.

how much pressure do you use during the assessment and how much during the body work? When you are on the other side working what looks like his shoulder and his pec. it looks like you are just touching him.
